Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil has been passed by the Censor Board of Film Certification with U/A certificate. Both films are on the shorter side, with the runtime of Kaabil at 139 minutes while Raees has been trimmed to a shade under 145 minutes.
Kaabil is the third shortest film of Hrithik’s career after Kites and Guzaarish. SRK has done several films that are shorter than Raees – including his last film FAN.
While runtimes do not exactly make a difference to the lifetime collections of films, it could have a significant impact on the opening day / weekend collections. More so when there is a major clash between two big films at the box office.
Exhibitors usually prefer films that have a ‘turnaround’ time of less than 3 hours. (gap between the beginning of one show and the next – which includes runtime of a film plus added time for theatre clean-up, audience exit / entry etc).
Since the runtime of both films are well under the 2.5 hour mark, both films are expected to get a fairly good number of shows at multiplexes. However, due to the clash, the shows will be divided and each film could lose anywhere between 30-50% of its business in the first couple of days.

For me, Kaabil has beaten Raees in every aspects like trailers, music etc. Raees looks like just another masala movie which we have been getting a lot in last few years. It looks outdated to be fair, trailer was disappointing after a great teaser. Then, Urvashi’s dance moves and music of HKD was far superior to Sunny’s trial of dance and music in Laila. Whole music album of Kaabil is better than Raees. But, I can see why masses are excited for it. It has that ‘machoism’ or ‘herogiri’ which appeal to a large section of single screen audience. If Kaabil finds appreciation in multiplexes, then it will be a close clash. One thing we shouldn’t forget is that Raees is a big film, 2+ years in the making, and Kaabil’s budget is only 35 crore.
The runtime of both the films are perfect . Both the films are thrillers so the length of the movie less than 2 hrs and 30 mins is spot on . It will be difficult to say who will win the clash in the long run as anything can happen . Hrithik and SRK are clashing after 17 years so this will be something to watch out for . 5 days to go for Kaabil and Raees !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another contention with Kaabil was its action sequences. But Bollywood Hungama reports that the CBFC officials dubbed Kaabil as an emotional story since it was not so high on action in spite of being a revenge drama. They also stated that Hrithik Roshan’s films are always suitable for family viewing and even said that Kaabil was the best revenge drama since AR Murugadoss’ 2008 film Ghajini.
