Raaz 2 Movie Review

Horror films in Bollywood are few and far in between but this decade most have worked at the box-office. Phoonk was RGV’s biggest success in a long time and ditto for Vikram Bhatt who was at an all time career low when 1920 released and did reasonably well, last year.

Raaz – The Mystery continues directed by Mohit Suri is not a sequel to Raaz, but a different story that belongs to the Raaz series. The comparisons are inevitable, as Raaz starring Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea is the biggest Bollywood hit ever in the horror genre.

So with expectations quite high, director Mohit Suri (Woh Lamhe, Zeher), Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman (son of Shekar Suman) promise to scare us with Raaz – The mystery continues. Do they succeed? Read the review..

For starters the story is filled with hair raising sequences, so if the horror genre is not something that you enjoy watching, give this a skip. The background music at times manages to scare the hell out of you. Movies like Phoonk and 1920 couldn’t scare me, but Raaz 2 at times did, especially some of the scenes involving Kangana! Talking of the scenes that cause quite a bit of Adrenaline Rush, there are two scenes that stand out. One at the New year party and the other involving Kangana, Emraan and the bulls!

Its one of those scripts which requires a director with skill and Mohit Suri has proved time and again that he is one of the most underrated directors in the industry. Apart from the last 30 mins of the film which isn’t very convincing, which is mainly due to flaws in the script, Mohit’s direction is top notch. Amongst the flaws, apart from the climax which doesn’t live upto expectations, the pace of Raaz 2 is quite slow.

The music like most Vishesh Films, is great. Soniyo is the best, followed by Tu Aaja Mere Maahi.

Performances are good. Adhyayan Suman on debut (by not taking the forgettable Haal-e-dil into consideration) is pretty good in the second half and has a good screen presence, huge scope for improvement though. But the film belongs to Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut. Both the seasoned actors are brilliantly expressive, a key to any good performance.

Overall, Raaz The Mystery Continues is a good horror film with good direction, fantastic performances and great music. Go with limited expectations and your sure to enjoy the film.

Rating: ★★★½☆ (Worth the price of your ticket.)

Other Notes – Raaz 2 or Raaz TMC should do well at the box-office as Chandni Chowk To China has had a big fall! The collections have completely crashed during the weekdays.

The review of Slumdog Millionaire will be up tomorrow. Do check back.

  • If you both can make a team then why not us? You both are sticking up for eachother so why can’t I do the same for fathiya, uh???

And by the way I know how to spell, its just really cold where I live, my hands were really cold so I sometimes accidently hit the wrong keys. Besides its not like I’m typing an essay or anything that I have to have perfect grammar here. Looks like people around here like to pick at the smallest things.

  • well m short n sweet n dont like to irritate ppl wid stupid lectures….its ppl like u who r irritated by everybody ….indicine y dont u chuck dis old bore off!!!
raaz as xpected by ur review a gud movie…really scary in some scenes…bt kanganaz xpressions wer same …she act phycos in all films(jst like fathiya..lol)
emraan looks cool…..adhyan…i didnt notice him….overall gud movie!!!
priya n linjo :keep up d gud work..:-D))

  • Hello Kiran: No I don’t mind it at all and thanks for yr supporting.

They all know which movies I like and which I don’t.. they all know that I’m not biased here… even if I like Shahrukh so it doesn’t mean that I love all his movies.. they all know that I didn’t like Om Shanti Om for Shahrukh.. when I watch any movie, I judge the movie, the direction, production etc., but I never loved a crap because I loved the hero! that’s u ppl who r like this and not me!

Linjo: I don’t have the time to go to the page again and read what I wrote already.. yes I’ve predicted that the action in the movie is like Raajnikanth’s movies or some cartoons ( and it is) and the movie is just a masala one, got everything in it, and about the box office, I couldn’t predict anything. It’s a blockbuster yes.. I know that, even RBNDJ is a blockbuster too.. I saw Rabne 3 times in cinema but Ghajini one time only, every movie got it’s audience, TZP was a much better movie than Ghajini for Aamir Khan, that’s my opinion.. do u mind it too?! ( and u all know that I don’t care about the box office.. few crores Aamir’s movie Ghajini did more than Rabne.. it won’t change my mind about Rabne.. and Linjo.. you’re a stupid guy coz u value movies according to the box office collection only).

  • Hey frnds we have to post comments about the picture Raaz-TMC and not to fight among yourselves…..

I watched raaz this wednesday n just liked it so much…………..

everything was in it which i was looking for…….
    from horror to good music……..

and it even sent a good msg to us that no one is bad………
the most bad thing resides inside ourselves………..

It also showed us what illogical mythological and religious traits are carried out in India at holy places.

Yes it has that spirit element but still it is showed in such a good style that u will agree wid me…

and i liked its tagline d most
“Tum Ashudh Ho, Sadh Chuke Ho”

It has a very deep meaning………….

so all the people who have not watched Raaz….go and watch it………
it will really be the worth of the price of your ticket………….

  • Tuhi Mera Naam, I agree with u. This section is to write comments about raaz 2. Not to fight. Each and everyone of us have different taste and we all have the right to like any kind of films. Some like SRK,some like Amir, Some like Akshay and some like Hrithik and so on…. I think all of them are great people in this industry. All of them want us to see their movies and feel happy. Why are u guys fighting about it?

And yes, about Raaz. It is a fantastic movie. I was looking forward for a good horror movie and I’m glad that I got to watch Raaz 2. But unfortunately here in Sri Lanka we don’t have a chance to watch it in big screen. So got the DVD and watched. Both Kangana and Emran did a good job. For me it is better that Raaz 1. Because this gives a good message to the society. Music is superb
    MUST WATCH MOVIE. 4/5 stars

  • Ok… People I dont know for what and why are you guys praising this movie Razz-2! First of all let me make it clear this is not a Horror movie at all… May be Script Writer / Director / Producer watched a collection of Hollywood horror flicks and decided next morning “voila! lets make a horror bollywood movie now..” May be they did not understand the hollywood horror movie plot itself from which they tried to pick Raaz-2… Direction looked completely lost in midway of the movie. For god sake how can you sleep in a horro movie watching it all alone? After RGV’s Phoonk one more horror movie hits the market Razz-2.. Now really audiance should be scared of trying any hindi horror.. So horrific movie and I am horrified with acting, script, Direcrtion except Songs.. Songs are good (Thank god something is good about this movie!)

Best acting in the movie is from Jakie Shroff for 15 mins.. Rest of the movie is crap… Dont waste your money for this dragging, slow paced never ending movie even for a DVD rent…

Recent past “1920” stands out in hindi horror category.. No match and questions about it…

    My rating 2/5

  • It doesn’t matter whether the story was inspired from any other movie or something like that………One goes to watch a movie with good story with good music and direction and not to figure out that this part is copied from there and this from there………

And even if it was inspired from some hollywood movies it has been adapted well. The most important thing is that the story is not just taken from here or there…Proper research is done before making that and you cant deny the credit that should be given to the movie crew………

You can ask what research and thats the pesticide waste getting mixed in rivers which is a truth and that illogical traits which has been shown are also a truth…….We should appreciate the movie for reminding us that such things are carried out in India and we should make efforts to remove them……

Direction was top-notch by Mohit Suri and you can again read the review…..Ya climax was not like that which was expected but its not the fault of director there…. He tried his best…

Animesh if u slept it doesnt meant that movie is a crap…….then you should complete your sleep before watching a movie my friend…….

If u agree with my comment then post a reply…………
if u dont agree then also u can….lolzzz

  • @Tuhi Mera Naam…
Well said… I can not agree with you more… But my friend do you know what does a Horror movie means??? A horror should give you the chill in your bones … but for sure this movie had nothing of that sort… If that was the case I do not understand why it was promoted as a Horror movie. People will of course go to watch the movie with some expectations and that is where I thought this movie failed very badly. If you go to watch a comedy movie and if it turns out to be a tragic then of course you will be disappointed. That is exactly what happened with me.

However even now I do not agree that this was well researched? I mean what was the role of Emraan in this? Just to fit him in this movie director thought let him be the son of the ghost…? The evil always screams of Tum Sadh chuke ho.. bla bla bla… for eternity… What was that for? Just one line dialogue before this the man was killed and that’s it…! Why did the ghost not pick his own son to discover what happened to him than creating a suspense drama instead… All this just to create a suspense which falls all apart at the end…

All I want to say this is NOT by any means a horror movie, nor suspense… Then what was it????

  • @Animesh
My frnd it seems u went with some huge expectations with this movie. But read the last two lines of the review-“Overall, Raaz The Mystery Continues is a good horror film with good direction, fantastic performances and great music. Go with limited expectations and your sure to enjoy the film.”

I went with limited expectations and enjoyed every bit of it but u had some more expectations from this movie, thats why u didnt liked it.

Well I dont think that Emraan’s role was fitted in the movie. He was the driving character of the story which took the story forward by his paintings which depicted the future. His acting was also good.It has been mentioned in review too.

And the line Tum Ashudh Ho is the punch line of the movie, which a viewer will remember while returning to home after watching the movie, and try to understand the meaning of the line frnd.Kabir’s doha, around which the film has been made is also true.So film teaches us also that there is no one bad in this world. The most bad element exists inside us only.

Anyways a thing cant be liked by everybody.I liked it and u not.
    I hope now u agree…………..

  • @Tuhi Mera Naam

Fair enough… Not everyone will like this movie…

Those who say it was a good horror movie can please tell me which part of this “GOOD HORROR” movie was scary for you? :-D For me there was hardly any.
