Quotes from Shahrukh Khan’s Interview

Journalists love Shahrukh Khan because most of his interviews are witty, straight from the heart, has tons of quotable quotes, and he only talks about himself.

One such interview was published on Indian Express with the headline “I only know one person who is the best and that’s me”

Below we have a few more quotes from his interview. You can read the full interview here

  • I take a long time to say no. I feel bad whenever I have to refuse a film. I avoid the conversation, make excuses not to meet or call the person, and then read the script a few more times.
  • I don’t understand when actors say they did a film because it was “challenging” or “exciting”. Those are heavy words. I like to be simple — I want to be happy.
  • I’ve doled out a lot of different stuff and the audience has always loved me. ‘Swades’ may not be so huge commercially, but it was loved. Ditto with Chak De! India, even Ra.One. As a superhero film, it didn’t have that big a market, but my audience loved it.
  • I feel really bad if my film doesn’t work. Every moment, I can feel the weight of a billion people’s expectation on my shoulders.
  • (Advice to young actors) I’ll tell him to do exactly what the old Shah Rukh Khan did. Just be yourself. You’ll find enough people on the way to help you reach where you want to go, but don’t make any plans. I’ll tell you a little story. When I had just come to Mumbai, two-three of us, all young actors, were chatting. I won’t name them because it’ll create a new controversy. One of them said, ‘I don’t want to get typecast.’ I told him, ‘Nobody knows you yet. You need to be cast to be typecast’. The other guy said, ‘I won’t do TV.’ I told him, ‘If you get a great offer, please do it. There is no right or wrong way of achieving success’. Like I’ve written in my book, ‘The best way to act is to act.’
  • I’ve always maintained that I don’t have any competition. I’m selfishly selfish that way. I only know one person who is the best and that’s me.
  • I don’t understand Rs 100 crore or Rs 200 crore. Talking of Happy New Year, if you have a leading star, a hit director, a superstar heroine and you release a film in the holiday period, then it will make big money. It’s a no-brainer that it’ll do well.
  • It’s been my dream —for a while — to participate in a film that takes Indian cinema worldwide; something like Life is Beautiful, which is an Italian film but speaks to everyone.
