Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to release on ‘Diwali Puja’, gets 5-day weekend

The release date of Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has been announced. The film will release in theatres on Wednesday, 11th November 2015, giving it a extended 5-day weekend at the box office.

Interestingly, and unlike last year when Shahrukh Khan decided to release ‘Happy New Year’ on the day after ‘Diwali Puja’, Sooraj Barjatya and Salman have announced Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to release on the day when business tends to get affected.

Announcing the release date of the film, Barjatya said “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will be releasing during the Festival of Lights – Diwali. Rajshri is proud to partner with Fox Star Studios for this film that will release on November 11. Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor star in this complete family entertainer that we hope will tug at the heart strings of audiences with the Indianness of love, and values it has in its core. Salman is playing a character that he hasn’t played in a long time. He is the quintessential Prem once again that audiences have loved and treasured in their hearts. We are gearing up with release strategies that will unfold soon.”

Vijay Singh, the CEO of Fox Star Studios, was equally proud and excited to announced ‘the movie of the year’.

“We are proud to announce that Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is going to release on November 11, the Diwali weekend. We are currently working on exciting marketing strategies to make the release of the Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer an event. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a complete family entertainer. Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan have created magic with their movies in the past, made box office records and with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – a film that has its heart at the right place – this is the definitely the movie of the year releasing this Diwali.”

Comparison of release date with other ‘Diwali’ releases

2011: Ra One released on the same ‘Diwali puja’ day as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will release this year. The SRK superhero film was affected by the festivities, but set the record for highest single-day collections on the following day – which is considered to be the best day for film business.

2012: Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardar, both released on ‘Diwali puja’ day. Business of both films was affected on the day of release.

2013: Krrish 3 released two days before ‘Diwali’, which happened to fall on Sunday. But the film managed to set record on Monday and like Ra One, set the record for highest single day collections.

2014: With an eye on records, Shahrukh and Farah Khan decided to release Happy New Year a day after Diwali. That day generated revenues of Rs 44.97 crore, the highest single-day business ever, a record that still stands today!

  • @ HRITIK who told you HAHK was success because of salman, it became blockbuster only because of Madhuri dixit, salman was sidelined by madhuri who won accolades for her role, during those times even sridevi was also crowd puller, then you will say Chaalbaz was success as SUnny deol was in that film, i am fan of sunny deol, however chaalbaaz was all the way sridevi

  • @Romance DilWale_fan

  • @arman123 1st of all no film dare to clash with Dilwale as it is the biggest film of 2015, 2nd Prdp can’t cross 150cr mark, 3rd bajrangi bhaijaan can’t cross 200cr mark, 4th Dilwale will become the highest grosser of 2015, 5th Dilwale sureshoot cross 250cr mark if the film as entertaining like ce or g3 then it will cross 350cr, mark my words

  • @arman123 ce 1st monday 12.5cr, jai ho 9.5cr, ce 2nd weekned 28cr n jai ho 2nd week 21cr, Hny weekned>>>jai ho lifetime

  • @baap of some, HAHK success due to Madhuri???….hahahaha…. then Chennai Express is due to Deepika.

Madhuri’s performance was appreciated only because of the beautiful songs. Otherwise she didn’t have anything in that movie. I would say Deepika’s was much better performance in Chennai Express than Madhuri in HAHK.

It was Salman all the way. I still remember how girls were going ga ga over Salman’s role in the movie. And the movie ran on the strength of family and women audiences. They were the ones who pushed guys to watch this movie, and the rest is history.

  • Oh, and one more thing. Chaalbaaz was a remake of Seeta Aur Geeta, and Rajnikant and Sunny were only reprising extended guest appearances. The hero of the movie was Sridevi, just like it was Hema Malini in SAG. So, you cannot compare that to HAHK, which was completely focussed on two families, of which, the prominent one was that of Salman’s and hence he was the lead character of the movie. Sridevi is Sridevi, she can take record breaking collections even at this age. No comparisions there. Period.

  • Good Lord!!Did anyone say prdp and bb won’t cross 200cr ? Get ready to start finding some excuses like it’s masala film, holiday release, blah blah…cause 200cr toh 1st week mein hi ho jayega

  • @javed : No baba black ship !!!!!! and no javed daruwala predictions. we have been seeing the results of such predictions since last 7 years !!!!!!!!!

  • @Romance : Its a bitter truth !!!!! Thanks to Diwali holiday release for opening not srk stardom. Same expectations were built during Don2 Christmas release n we know what happened to ‘Most awaited sequel’ !!!!! Kindly discuss this after Christmas. We will show what is Salman n what is Srk !!!!!!!!!

  • @Rao : I love my paki neighbors so don’t instigate me to write against you. Salman fans watches Kick in theatres n gives 233 crs to pre Eid release n srk fans watches HNY on YouTube n make him struggle to reach 200 crs despite 44 crs opening !!!!!!! now you know who are idiots and who are loyal fans !!!!!!! Allah Hafiz

  • @Baap of unknowns : Read this n think before you post such lame excuses :
