Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has crashed at the box office on Monday, registering drops in the range of 25-75% across various centres on its first weekday. The first Monday business is likely to be in the 12 crore range, which was expected after the film dropped on Sunday.
Mass centres are holding up well, but the big problem has come at metro cities in India. Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and other major cities like Pune, Gurgaon have registered big drops on Monday. Mangalore has come down by 85-90% from Thursday.
While the multiplex business has begun to crumble after a huge weekend, single-screens in the heartland of India are steady.
It’s a similar scenario as Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivaah. The film was a below-average grosser at big cities, but performed on the strength of circuits like Bihar where it went on to be a record grosser. But Vivah was a much smaller film as compared to PRDP which has to perform well pan-India to recover its huge costs.
The next few days will decide the fate of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. Due to Salman’s presence, the film has already collected Rs 142 crore in 5 days (Rs 145 crore including all versions), but it remains to be seen if it can surpass the first week business of ‘Kick’ which collected Rs 164.21 (7 days).
Bajrangi Bhaijaan, on the other hand, collected Rs 21.4 crore on its 5th day (first working day) and first week business of Rs 184.65 crore. The difference here is not Salman Khan, but the word-of-mouth between the two films. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was one of the best received films of 2015 and now almost certain to be the highest grosser of 2015 too – unless Dilwale springs a big surprise during Christmas this year.

First PRDP Box Office mess now another good news for Salmanians:
One would think that Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 9 is the most popular reality show on TV as of now. The controversial series has been a hit with the janta, since season 1. But looks like season 9 is failing to meet the mark. The BARC report for week 44 is out and it shows that the weekend episodes of BB9 have failed to beat Colors TV’s other popular shows- Comedy Nights Bachao and Comedy Nights With Kapil! The weekend episode of BB9 has a rating of 1.8 (1.5), which is lower than CNB 1.9 (1.8)and CNWK (2.4 (1.4). Surprising right? Looks like weekend episode of BB9 couldn’t keep ahead of the race, despite having Salman as the host.
Loolk alike Sallu’s Dream Run and Good Luck is fading again every where. I mean in every field of entertainment.

@xzone: What can I do if Salman fans are stupid enough not to realize the stardom of Shahrukh? SRK is my personal favorite and I rate him higher than both Salman and Amir. After Dilip Kumar and Amitabh, I believe Shahrukh comes 3rd in the superstar list.
However as far as todays box office performance is concerned I think both SRK and Salman are at par. With the exception of BB, all recent Salman blockbuster movies have been masala movies. And when SRK did masala movie he also delivered a blockbuster.
