PK review by Nipun:

PK! Undoubtedly the most awaited movie of 2014 has finally arrived. Expectations are HIGH like anything. After all, it has been directed by one of the best directors of India,Raj Kumar Hirani, who has given ever-green movies like Munna Bhai series and 3 idiots to B’town! The Amir-Hirani Jodi is back after 5 years with PK. Does PK live upto the Sky-High expectations? Okay, let’s find out.

The story of the movie is about a strange character PK(Amir Khan) who belongs to another planet. PK comes to Earth for some researches, But unfortunately he looses his machine that helps him to send the signal to his planet. So he starts searching for that machine. Accordingly, He gets familiar with human on earth and meets a girl, Jagat Janani (Anushka Sharma) who helps him. Jagat Janani and PK then try to show the true colour of a fraudulent Hindu Guru(Sourav Shukla) in public and the story proceeds. Sanjay Dutt, Shushant Singh Rajput and Boman Irani are playing the roles of PK’s friend, Jaggu’s Lover and Boss respectively.

Director Hirani always comes with some social messages. Here also PK is probably based on superstition, which mocks the differentiation of God by different groups of people and inter-religion marraiges. The first half is superbly entertaining. It maintains a consistancy over the plot with so much interesting sequences. You will have a genuine fun throughout the first half. The introductory scenes of the characters are praise-worthy too! The picturization of songs like “Bhagwaan Hai Kahaan re tu” and “Chaar Kadam” are impressive too. The flaws lie in the second half. A scene which didn’t click was the one where PK falls in love with Jaggu and a song titled “Love is a waste of time” suddenly begins. I feel that part could have been shot in a better way. Also, the Bomb blast scene in the train makes the over-all plot a bit clumsy. Twists and unpredictable sequences are good when they suit properly with the plot. Instead of Bomb blast, they could have induced any other reason to show why the man(the person who had sold the machine to Tejaswi) couldn’t reach to the TV show. However, what still works in the second half was the war between Tejaswi and PK. Also,The last twist over the love story of Jaggu and Sarfraz impressed me.

The cinematography was really brilliant. There were beautiful locations of India and the outer country(Belgium perhaps!). The song “chaar kadam” was a visual treat! The background score works well. Songs are sounding sweet at big screen. Sonu Nigam’s “Bhagwaan Hai Kahan re tu” sounds incredible.

The other reasons to watch PK are the performances of the actors! Amir Khan’s role was too challanging, yet he has given proper justice to it! He was the heart of this film. Anushka has played her part very well. Shourav Shukla has got an interesting role and He did very good job. Boman Irani and Sanjay Dutt have small roles. But, they played their part well. Rajput looked really charming in the movie and even made a good impression.

Over all, PK is undoubtedly Watchable. The first half provides you continous fun and entertainment. 2nd half has flaws and some clumsiness, but they don’t make the film terrible. A few modification over the screenplay as well as editing would have made it better. The best and most interesting parts in the story of the movie are the different troubles experienced by PK when he starts learning about Humans of Earth to get familiar with them.

So finally, PK is ambitious and a brave experiment. It’s not perfect. But it definitely deserves your time. I am going with three and a half stars. Watch it for the good performances, the brilliant locations and the interesting parts you will find in the movie. Undoubtedly it’s one of the “BEST 5 MOVIES OF 2014? if not the “BEST”!

PK REVIEW: A hard-hitting satire which flies till first half and crawls in the second:

Rajkumar Hirani is back after the terrific 3 idiots. Does he live up the expectations?

The answer is Yes and No. With PK, he tells us a better story, a more hard-hitting social comment, giving up on his 3 film old, feel- good formula. PK is difficult to gauge by genre. It is a satire at times, and later a rehash of the typical ManMohan Desai films. Yet it never loses it’s optimism.

PK has no strong supporting cast. No Circuit. No Chatur, No Dr.Ashtana. It is a one man show. What works for PK is its unpredictable humor which is genuinely funny.

What happens when a stranger who has no clue about religion mixes everything up? The film’s terrific first half mostly follows journey of PK who tries to learn religions, religiously. Laughs are drawn from nowhere and the premise seems rock solid. So solid that it can make Munna Bhai MBBS look like an average film.

The slump begins in second half particularly after 20 minutes when the stage is set for confrontation of Good V/s Bad. You can’t help but recall ‘OMG Oh MY God’ where the same things were told through the eyes of an atheist. The end in particular is full of ridiculous melodrama and over-the-top emotions which are seen in all the Hirani films.

However, this time the ending isn’t as corny as 3 idiots. It is certainly an ambitiously flawed attempt to tell a unique story, but what goes in favor of PK is the impeccable Aamir Khan! He throws himself into pk to an extent that you actually overlook the outrageously silly second half of the film.

Special mention for the extra-ordinary dialogue writing in the first half, where almost every scene evokes genuine emotion. Watch out for the ‘Bhagwaan Hai kaha re tu’ song. A song which moves you to the core without manipulating you.

Final Words: Movie is strictly for those who have open mind. Won’t call it as good as Munna Bhai films, but PK is easily one of the better films this year. It takes the ‘OMG’ theme and executes it in the first half to a whole new level. Don’t miss it!

PK Review by Navin

Just come from my second show of PK with family and I loved it more than the first time. Short review as I’m pretty tired from drive back n wallet surgery- expensive day but well worth every penny.

Ok so repeat values are definitely there and content is strong n captivating. Second half has the right elements including the forsaken love angle which mass audiences would love so I dont buy ‘this forced love angle sentiment’ of yours Indicine.

The best scene was the ‘The final Question’ segment- again similar to OMG but not many saw OMG n more will see PK so the emotions delivered by PK in his response n subsequent reasonings were sublime. Paresh did a stellar job but here PK is really exhausted searching for God n his suffering brings a silence to the room as we all can relate to similar frustrations/ fatigue.

Also the Sarfaraz / Jaggu church scene retold brought a tear to my eyes n audiences held their breath during that part. Really heartfelt emotional ride- top work team. I think second half was GOOD n ofcourse first half rocked big time but the ending scene (I wont spoil anyones enjoyment here so relax) brought the house down.

All in all PK the character was magnificently played by Aamir- cant see anyone else doing that role- he held the audiences attention with everything he did or said- proud of Raju Sirs direction as his friendship with Aamir ensured he got the maximum out of Aamir and PK.!

The only thing stopping me from giving the movie a total 5 stars is I (spoiler alert) would have loved it if Raju Sir had shown the audience PK using his ‘remote’ to actually send out signals to his spaceship.. This was shown in Koi Mil Gaya n the kids loved this in that movie so more so for the kids this addition could have given greater scope for kids to come back for more.
Film deserves more than 4.5 stars but thats the best I can give it.

Watch it and forget 3 idiots- different topic with 3 lead characters who brought so much to the movie- here PK and Jaggu are main draw so they are one man down compared with 3 idiots but still do enough to keep you intrigued through 150 mins. This ones a classic and box office winner all the way into the 300 cr club.

Short Review by Fathiya

I came back from cinema now.. hilarious film.. well done Aamir Khan.. I loved your film and enjoyed every scene of it.. one of the best films of 2014 for sure and million times better than Dhoom 3 which he didn’t fit in the role.. that’s your baby Aamir.. he fits in such roles.. we all enjoyed watching it, family members and it really deserves 4.5/5 specially that it’s got a great message for the audience in whatever relates to belief, religion.

PK Review by Tejan Shrivastava

*My Non-Spoiler Review* Saw PK The Film. It’s not even half as good as 3 idiots or Munnabhai M.B.B.S… Where’s the originality Mr. Rajkumar Hirani? Re-cycled plot of Akshay Kumar’s OMG — Oh My God. Movie intro scene and Aamir Khan’s entry reminds you of The Terminator films. Aamir’s locket is very much inspired from Iron Man’s Arc Reactor. Background score reminds you of Love Story 2050.

Aamir is brilliant throughout and the only reason to watch PK. No other actor could have done justice to this role other than him. Anushka Sharma is superb as Jagat Janani. Other actors acted well too.

One big problem with PK is Rajkumar Hirani. First half is very good. Funny and entertaining but problem starts in the post interval scenes. The 1st half was written by Hirani and did someone else write the 2nd half? Was he even sure what he was writing? And then he said it took him 5 years to write PK. There’s absolutely no connection between 1st and 2nd half of the film. Too much of unnecessary drama, bomb explosion and all of a sudden terrible climax from nowhere. PK is Hirani’s worst work till date, but one of Aamir’s best act.

  • Acting — In one word — “Awesome”
  • Cinematography — Brilliant
  • Humour — Funny and mostly enjoyable but not suitable for family viewing
  • Dialogues — Hilarious and meaningful
  • Direction — Bad
  • Editing — Average
  • Script — Copied from OMG!
  • Songs — Situational but Below Average

  • @gautam raj thanks buddy but I wrote that review after midnight friday and I had seen movie twice aswell as having kids with me doing their Xmas shopping- I wasnt able to give the review much thought but went with what was needed to be said and left out many other things. Glad you enjoyed it though.

  • @tiger

    Thanks buddy

Not my best comment I will admit but was super excited about PK- third viewing later on tonight so looking forward to it immensely.

PS missing anand babu- Where are you buddy?

  • Rajeev Masands prodigy and Anupama Chopras cross dressing fan Nipun Kumars manipulated review was blatantly copied n pasted from acouple of reviews from the web… The fool has his own unique style of writing nonsense n suddenly hes Chetan Bhagat- dont believe it for one moment- I will read reviews from tomorrow from many sources n look for where the jaadoo fan stole the ET idea sorry his review from.

  • Imdb rating of of PK is still 8.9 with more than 8000 votes.Incredible.
Also @imakn or Asad khan nagar posted the fake review of him on imdb where he had given 2/10 to pk movie.Common mam don’t be so down with hate that you update false review, even I had never post any review there with any film and you post fake review without watching movie, fact is the least one can rate pk is 3/5 or 6/10 anything less mean they are telling a lie on the movie
Other thing the bomb blast scene was necessary otherwise people will think they are majorly targeting Hindu religion, so with that they balance the harmful religious thought of Muslim who involves in terrrisom so they balance the all religion.
So overall they made a wonderful film overall.

  • hirani boasts and barks about the originality, PK is not original, inspired from FORREST GUMP and OMG, so please do not tell that it has original story, OMG was way better than PK

  • @sss, the biggest palagarised movie of bollywood is ur belved king’s ra one…even krish3 is nothing infront of ran one in terms of palagarasim….

  • Worst review is from Fathiya- what is this nonsense:-
    “Script- copied from OMG”

Either you havent seen OMG or PK or perhaps you too stupid to differentiate between two movies who belong to the same genre…. Arent all love stories of similar ilk…? Action movies are the same arent they so do we say script is passed around between different sets n casts…?

Get this through your empty head- OMG was a good movie (saw it on TV) but no way was it better than PK- its script was one dimensional- anti religious establishment- its sentiment was for a refund from God for losses occurred- finding God in his house visible to him ONLY was abit too much IMO- Akkis role was needless but guess the Gandhi ji realisation idea from LRMB with Sanju babu seeing Gandhi ji was utilised here just for the sake of doing it-PK is much more with the anti religious establishment playing a significant part in its plot only in second half- first half had so much more going for it so just stop with the ‘PK copied OMG’ nonsense and get real.

  • @Navin uncle: How did you know that I have copied from reviews of other critics? I read mainly 2 critics reviews viz Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra.
This time “Anupama Chopra didn’t review the film as PK belongs to her own production” . Rajeev Masand’s review came after 9.00 PM yesterday and I posted my review before 8.30 PM at indicine. So stop talking bullshits. Frustrated soul!

  • @Navin uncle: I watched PK in FDFS. So I cann’t wait till the night to read a review by Rajeev Masand to write my review.

  • thank u everyone for criticizing my review and calling it fake over the top.
when I gave negative reviews to bang bang,sr,ungli, entertainment… u ppl said the same thing that I was being fake and over d top to lure ppl to support youngistaan!!! lol

my situation cn b best summarized by this line-”agey kua same khai”

lagta hai tum sabke dimagma kono wrong number kila mar diya gawa hai
so I want to say just one thing to u all
    get well soon :-)

  • @Navin:
Have u lost your eyes? That review you are telling about is written by @tejan srivastava ,not by @Fathiya. Fathiya has praised the film and gave it 4.5/5. U need an eye check-up.

  • The flaw in Raju direction can be understand by this simple statement “Raju is a director who got century in all his 3 innings but with pk he got put on 99 at the time when most of filmmaker who are experience failed to score half century”Thats all.
This is difference between Raju and others,He raised his standard very high that no one is even close to half of his standard. pk might be not his best but its still better than any commercial film.
@sss complan boy what a fake review and rating, Achchaa (those who had seen film can understand that by what is my expression when I said this.)

  • I simply loved the review of all the people whose review added by admin this page.Review of Gauravv, nipun matched with my reviews. While Navin is masters in his review style.Funny.

  • Indicine ..I’m writing my review too .. Please do post it :)
    .
PK, undoubtedly the most awaited movie of the year, been a die hard SRK fan I walked into the theatre with not so great expectations but I walked out with altogether different thoughts.
The movie, a story about an alien (Khan) who lands on Earth and goes around questioning God’s existence, with the motive of finding his remote which has been stolen. Along way he meets Jaggu (Anushka) & they embark on a journey with unravelled emotions exposing Godmen & events that change both PK & Jaggu’s life.
The movie rides on excellent performances by all the Star Cast, excellent content & Genius direction by Rajkumar Hirani.
Aamir Khan delivers his best performance, Anushka is brilliant, Sushanth, Sanju, Boman & Saurabh Shukla deliver super fine performances too.
You will enjoy each and every moment of this movie, and will keep smiling throughoht.
The movie is infact the best movie I have seen since MNIK.
    Go Watch It !!

  • PK Review:

After watching PK…one must say that Raj Kumar Hirani without any doubts is No.1 director in the Bollywood Today. A 4 movie old director takes Bollywood movies to such an standard that puts all big names in Bollywood into shame. Why does Bollywood takes so long to produce a good entertainer. This is something because we never push them to do so. Doing action masala movies repeatedly is denting the Bollywood standards big time. However who cares about them unless you get your money back.

Coming to PK: It is not the best movie of Aamir Khan or Raj Kummar Hirani, but it is far by the best movie this year. A big star cast with good message and entertainer is all that is expected and you get it.

The first half of the movie reminds you of Terminator, Koi Mil Gaya but with never seen avatar of human minded alien who loses his signal transmitting device that communicates with his spaceship. Rest of first half deals with how he goes on searching for it. He ends up praying to all GODS to get the device back. When he fails, he tries to convey an message in society that you need to get your logic’s right while executing any activity instead of praying to GODS.To support this, the movie has a love story that has Anushka and Sushant. Sanjay Dutt was good in his supporting role. This movie has its part of let downs as well in terms of entertainment. But strong content takes it to a safe level…

    Coming to positives and negatives:
    Positives:
    1) Raj Kumar Hirani Direction/Execution – He is the ultimate Hero of the movie, who tries to bring a strong message through a never seen before story. Hats off…
    2) Aamir Khan: No one can be so perfectionist in executing any role as he does. His was a top-notch performance…
    3) Story – I always like to see never seen before things. I am totally against those routine action masala’s. PK’s story is very good..

    Negatives:
    1) Songs are big letdown. Not even one song is catchy on which you can go gaga.
    2) Sushant wasted. Hardly in movie for 10 minutes. After Kai Po Che expectations from him is more.
    3) 2nd half should have been more entertaining.

Over and over the movie is good interesting watch with strong content and strong performances… A must see…I go with a rating of 3.5 stars of 5.

  • My short review of PK (since I am a bit busy these days)

Finally, we have got to watch PK today. The film was a laughing riot & entertaining all the way. By far, this is the best of the year though it may not be as good as 3 Idiots.
The film looks a bit inspired from KMG in which Jaadoo struggles to return home. It is ok especially because KMG was also inspired from ET. Also, a bit looked like OMG!

Only complain against is that PK lands on the earth for research. But he did so without a back-up plan or option when something strange happen. So, it happens. Thus, he signal sender necklace gets robbed!
Some religious fanatics may not like the film since it may lead one to secularism, but at the end, it senda beautiful message.

“Stop trying to protect God who has created Universe and everything by sitting in a small corner of the earth. God can take care of himself. Stop fighting in the name of God. Stop killing in the name of God.”

PK, definitel, has repeat value. At least three times.
Go for it. You will feel your money & time worth spending.

    My rating: 4.5/5*****

    All multiplxes are houseful here.

  • Enjoyed nipun ‘s review.overally good.what i thought i got almost every thing in nipun’s review. What a coincidence ..

Waiting for BABY on 23rd jan

  • @bulli,even we bhai fans said pk is a plgiarised movies, that’s enough though they are bound to do this only to to save kick’s collection.

@tiger,plagiarises some how better than direct copy paste of cheapest south remakes though RA.One is an original fresh script with out any plagiarism.

Best film of the year is HAIDER.BEST Actor—-Shahid Kapoor.some moron hrithik roshan fans rated HAIDER at no.5,I know what’s the reason behind that! That is clash against their papa’s boy, lol.

  • Just watched PK in the morning today. I just got my time to post a review about it.

The best film of this year so far. seriously, I have no qualms accepting it!!

As you watch PK, you definitely feel, it’s a Raju Hirani film. I had full faith in Hirani that he won’t disappoint, and yes, he doesn’t entirely, but a bit in the middle he does, although, completely satisfies it in the end!

As of now, everybody knows the synopsis about Pk., I would not explain much more about it. I want people to go and experience it in the Big screen.

The first half was completely, typical Raju hirani style comedy, and the second half begins with the social elements which you quite find often in his films. Yet, I found something missing as opposed to his previous 3 films. Nevertheless, I totally enjoyed myself while completely immersing myself in it.

Though, by the time you move on to the second half of the film, it’s completely opposite of the first half, it does at times seemed like it wasn’t Raju Hirani directing it (right after interval)!
But, the way he got that ‘letter’ aspect in the end – Raju had nailed it by that time! That was a masterstroke, I believe.

However, I would disagree with two points that the film has been criticized of lately, The film does have some shades of ‘Oh my God!’ but it completely does not focus on that aspect (about gods/Hindus). and secondly, the CLIMAX which (others thought as disappointing) I thought, it brought back the movie altogether to a new high! – Brilliant!

Negatives: Not much going in the second half (before climax). Weak supporting characters (unlike his other 3 films) – It was only about PK, Pk!, No impact of that Bomb scene (spoiler alert), Boman Irani was wasted! Weakest film among Hirani’s other three (most people would agree).

Definitely, the first ‘Hindi’ film that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching in the theater.

Hats Off to Aamir Khan, he’s the only among all the Actors, who has that authentic script sense (of course, except Dhoom 3). Powerful performance again from this guy. He proves that he’s the Best in the Country, probably after Amitabh and Kamal Haasan in terms of sheer ‘On-Screen Performance’.

No doubt, PK should grow huge in the long run and would definitely become the biggest grosser of the year 2014. (240+ is what I predict). Respect for #Raju Hirani – again proves why he is the Best Director in India today! and #Aamir Khan – Best Performance of 2014 and one of his best, ever – Bow Down to you, SIR! (beats Shahid by a margin).

Keep your expectations low as opposed to previous Raju Hirani films, as this one is definitely not better than his Munnabhai series and 3Idiots. I assure, You would still, love it!

I would give it 4.25 on 5. The best film of 2014.

  • Awesome movie outstanding acting by Aamir great content and i strongly feel its better than all the previous series of hirani

  • @nipoon kumar

You imbecile- did I even say you copied Rajeev Masand… All I said was you have a squeaky girlish voice like him n you like dressing up as Anupama Chopra you cross dressing freak… You worship that loser n his reviews when hes a suck up n his voice annoys the hell out of his viewers. Your choice so live with it but let me say that you arent as stupid as your picture suggests to just blatantly copy Rajeev as that would be to obvious but you’ve copied someone else of that there is no doubt…. Get your eyes tested coz my comment for fathiya or tejan or anybody else boasting about PK copying OMG is the same so I wont apologise for getting the names mixed up as I couldnt care less about it.

  • @nipun kumar 7:20pm

Now this is a genuine comment from our own girlish sounding rajeev wannabe critic nipun kumar- check out this stupidity of his in all its natural glory:-

“@navin -how did you know that I have copied from reviews of other critics…?”

Well I didnt until you confirmed it with your own mouth…. :-D

Now thats the standard of english, grammar, intellect of our kindergartener baby nipun which proves his review was not his work….

  • Had it not been Aamir Khan in the movie, it would have flopped.. too many stories boiled together to create a khichadi. Seemed like they were trying to manufacture emotions, which should come automatically from the scenes and expressions. Looking at Munnabhai Series and 3 Idiots, Pk didn’t generate as much steam as I wanted it to. Disappointed.

  • This is a film which is really needed in todays culture.
SUPERB !!! A class movie and performance of Aamir Khan is A+ Level.
This movie are one of the Best Movie in this Decade (Must count in TOP 3)
Is Film mein kitne aise scene hai to aapke romte khade kar deta hai… Excellent Movie
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (Film of the Year).
