Saif Ali Khan has been crowned as the official Nawab of Pataudi yesterday (31st October). The actor became the tenth heir after his father Mansoor Ali Khan who passed away on September 22, 2011.
The 41 year old actor was crowned the traditional Pagadi at a ceremony hosted in their ancestral Ibrahim palace located in a village in Haryana’s Gurgaon district. The heads of 52 villages gathered to tie a white turban as a symbol of the title. Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore and his sisters Soha – Saba along with the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh witnessed the event.
Late Mansoor Ali Khan who was the former captain of the Indian cricket team claimed to be the ninth Nawab of Pataudi. He was the bearer of the title only until 1971 when Indian Government abolished royal entitlements according to the 26th Amendment to the Constitution.
