Parineeti Chopra in Shahid Kapoor’s Udta Punjab?

A few days back, there were reports that Priyanka Chopra will romance Shahid Kapoor in Abhishek Chaubey’s next titled Udta Punjab. But now we hear that it’s not PC, but her cousin Parineeti Chopra who will be seen opposite Priyanka’s ex beau in the film which is set entirely in Punjab.

According to a source close to development, the director was keen to cast a Punjabi girl, which is why he approached Parineeti for the film. Earlier Priyanka was considered for the same role but the makers later felt that Parineeti is a better choice than Priyanka for this role.

“Abhishek was keen to have a Punjabi girl. So the makers have approached Parineeti. Interestingly the actress too is quite excited about the film. Though she loved the script she is yet to sign on the dotted line. Everything is in extremely initial stages and there is still sometime before the film goes on the floors. So the makers want to keep things under wraps for now,” said a source confirming the news

However, Abhishek wasn’t keen on making the announcement just yet. He indirectly hinted that Parineeti hasn’t yet signed on the dotted line “Shahid is playing the main lead. As far as the actress is concerned, no we haven’t locked anybody as yet. Though we have approached an actress, if she likes the script then we will be in a position to talk. We are talking to a lot of people so most probably we will finalise everything by next month,” he said.

Udta Punjab is a thriller drama about the youth in Punjab. The film will be produced by Phantom. It is likely to go on floors by the end of September.
