Legendary Tamil actor Rajnikanth will be honoured with India’s 2nd highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan. Actor Anupam Kher and Singer Udit Narayan have been selected for India’s 3rd highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan. While Bollywood stars Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra will be honoured with the Padma Shri, which is India’s 4th Highest civilian award.
The awards seek to recognise work of distinction and are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements, service in all fields of activities, disciplines such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry.
Nominations are sent in a prescribed proforma available in the website of the Home Ministry along with citation (maximum in 800 words). All persons, except government servants, without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards.
It is the usual practice to invite nominations every year from all state governments, Union territories, ministries, departments of the central government. Nominations can be made by Union ministers, Chief Ministers, Governors and Members of Parliament. A self nomination is also acceptable.
The nominations are placed before the Padma Awards Committee, constituted by the Prime Minister (Shri Narendra Modi) every year. Nominations may be sent to the Union Home Minister or Union Home Secretary to their offices in North Block in New Delhi
Reacting to his Padma honour, Ajay Devgn released a statement which read “I feel deeply humbled yet elated to receive such honor from my own country. The announcement today makes it special for me when I’m filming abroad for my new film ‘Shivaay’. I’d like to acknowledge that Padma Samman puts an extra responsibility on me and I promise to serve my country for as long as I can.”

However, the one complaint I have with this awards is that they haven’t given a padma award to Hrithik yet.. He really deserves.
I wonder how can they give it to the likes of Saif ali khan but not to Hrithik who has raised the bar for films consistently & contributed so much to bollywood.
Hope they realize his true achievements & potential soon & award one to him .

SRK has France’s Highest civilian award but India is yet to award him even padam vibhushan even after him being India’s identity for many.. SRK deserves Padma Bhushan because he got PadmaSri
long back and he has made INDIA proud worldwide…
