Films that belong to a popular or successful franchise have a big advantage at the box office, especially on the opening day as fans of the franchise throng to theatres to watch the film in theatres.
Dhoom 3 got the biggest opening of all time – for a film belonging to a franchise, although Dhoom 2 in 2006 also took a record-breaking earth-shattering opening when it released.
The second film in the list is Singham Returns. The first Singham film opened very well, but the sequel – which released on Independence Day in 2014 – was phenomenal.
Krrish 3 stands at No 3, but the business of the film was affected by the pre-Diwali period. The opening of the previous Krrish (2006) film was even bigger and record-breaking. Back then, it was the first film to collect Rs 5 crore on its opening day.
Dabangg 2 set the record for the highest non-holiday, while Don 2 did very well for a film that released nearly 5 years ago.
Akshay Kumar’s latest release ‘Housefull 3’ finds itself below Don 2 and above Race 2 (holiday release). Welcome Back and ABCD 2 exceeded expectations last year.
Note: Advantage of a national holiday is around 35%.

First the credit for Dhoom 3 goes to the biggest brand of bollywood Aamir and then it goes to dhoom franchise.
I remember at time of K3, everyone at night said it has 16-17 crores on day 1 and in the morning woke up and Roshans had floated 25 crs. I still don’t believe that number.

By comparison, it was the weakest housefull film as no chartbuster song and most comedy scenes were basically separate scenes mashed up together and not due to the story(Such as when Boman Irani checks whether they really are handicapped)..Also, it is called housefull but house was never full…In fact, most of the movie wasn’t even in a house neither was the climax…
Again by comparison, it is the best comedy movie in a long time if u compare it to movies like welcome back and kis Kis ko pyar karoon among others…This is what was needed in bollywood 4 a long time….It would have been better if the action scenes at start was completely cut out and Boman Irani had some funny one-liners instead of saying random stuff which nobody understood…Comedy of Akshay was best but Chunky Pandey overshadowed everyone in all his scenes…..The set-up for the movie took a long time but it continuously entertained throughout
Not upto standards of housefull series but the standard of comedy of those movies is really high and impossible to match…good movie none-the-less
Must watch 4 comedy lovers and fans of Akshay and Abishek(He had some of the best scenes)

By the way there exists a life beyond collections and highest grosser of the year.Fan will be remembered as a movie made with an honest attempt to try something new but it it backfired(personally I loved it) but movies like Dabba 2 and bodyguard are meant to make a fool of the audience and nobody cares about them anymore.
