Sonakshi Sinha’s Noor is a box office debacle, as the film has collected just 1.5 crore. The film opened poorly on Friday morning and didn’t show any growth through the day.
The writing is already on the wall as business on Saturday morning was at around the same level as Friday. Night shows will show growth, but the film needs to more than double its Friday business to have any chance of getting to a fairly decent total.
The last couple of months were about female-centric films, but none of those 4-odd films have managed even a decent opening day total. Naam Shabana was the best of the lot, but that film was also riding on the face-value of Akshay Kumar.
The ‘gender pay gap’ has been a topic of discussion, with Sonakshi Sinha recently making a statement that female stars deserve to be paid as much as male stars. The box office reality though is completely different. Even the presence of some of our younger male stars like Varun, Ranveer, Arjun and Sushant can ensure a bigger opening as compared to even a solo film featuring a top female star like Anushka or Deepika.
Phillauri, Begum Jaan and Noor have all failed to get a good initial. In fact, if Noor does not show a good trend over the weekend, the film could finish with lifetime business of less than 10 crore.
