Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja has collected Rs 4.7 crore at the box office on Friday. The film took a fairly good start in the morning, as the occupancy was around 20-25% at metro city multiplexes.
With positive reports and reviews, the occupancy doubled evening onwards as the late night shows at select centres were running at 65% plus occupancy.
The big plus for Neerja will be the word-of-mouth as films like these tend to show 30% plus growth on Saturday. The other advantage is the lack of competition. Deadpool performed well in its first week, but the Hollywood film has dropped on its 2nd Friday. Fitoor is a disaster as business crashed by more than 90% on 2nd Friday. Sanam Re is still running, but the collections are at low levels.
The second best performing release this week, Loveshhuda, was a washout as its first day business was less than Rs 1 crore.
Given the opening the film has taken, Neerja could collect somewhere around 18 crore in its first weekend, which would set it up well for a good first week at the box office.
#IndicineFBO: Not many in the trade were expecting Neerja to collect more than 3 – 3.5 crore on Friday. But we decided to go with a higher figure, simply because of the fact that the word-of-mouth comes into play a lot quicker for such films and the pre-release reports were extraordinary. That’s exactly what happened as evening shows showed huge growth in business. We expected Rs 4.3 crore as the first day collections of Neerja, the film has collected Rs 4.7 crore. The difference is 9%, making it yet another accurate prediction for 2016.

Yes this is how i can define #Neerja
First of all its not a film where u find lots of entertaining stuff. D film starts slow n den pick up n maintained a steady pace thereafter.plenty of positives r there in d film-
A) casting s stupendous , really those who played Palestine terrorists n d film r terrific , shabana mam n Yogendra Tiku both r superb.
And surprisingly sonam kapoor did a good job 2 . But n some scenes , i thnk she can do better , but overall a good act.
B) The simplicity of d story s a nother plus , narration s pretty good n u can feel d tension n fear.
C) Director Ram Madhwani does a commendable job. I think dis s his first full fledged feature film , but he does a grt job .
D) cinematography n set designing s very good in d film. They r not showing beautiful locals but they capture d incident like a live real event n that’s pretty difficult I guess.
E) And one thing I have 2 say DAT it s not about patriotism or nationalism . Its a true story of courage n humanity , d film only revolves around DAT subject.
Its truly a film which s made for global viewing.
Only thing DAT I doesn’t like s d climax which s Lil bit flat n hurried n editing s not very tight .
But overall they make a good movie. If u enjoy films based on real incidents n real hero’s , then #Neerja won’t dissapoint u.

Neerja has 2 open weeks before a big film (jai gangajal) arrives. It should collect big as WOM is very similar to 2014’s Queen which also started slow but made huge moolah.
Films like airlift n neerja bollywood is just getting better and better.
Watched it and absolutely loved the plot.
However, I feel Sonam didn’t do proper justice with her role.
But the script is so strong and script, that you will easily give Sonam’s performance a GO.
A must watch for everyone.

@ Indicine : U do rock when it comes to making predictions. I still remember I was devastated when u had revised Dilwales prediction to 145 cr on the third day of release and thought it was too low. But sadly it proved to be accurate also.
Neerja does not have much competition currently for next two weeks so it should be a hit at least. How much does it need to be a super hit?
@ANK, the whole point of Indicine FBO and LBO is to give our readers an idea of how much to expect on Day 1 and lifetime. We’ve been lucky with predictions because it’s impossible to predict evening growth. These days WOM comes into play very early. A few years ago, it was second day, now WOM starts to make a difference as early as noon shows on Friday.
Wazir wasn’t a bad prediction, not many expected it to do over 4.
Neerja needs to do 60 crore plus for Super Hit.

My Showtime for neerja was 11:00pm and the show was Housefull.
The film started slowly and showed how neerja and her family live and then the real movie starts you start feeling for the characters.
The director is a watch out for,the editing is crisp and the screenplay is nice as you never loose attention.
Performances are class apart.I was never a fan of Sonam kappor but she is magnificent and Shaban azmi is awesome.
The rest of the cast also give excellent performances.
There are I think 2 songs in the movie but I just remember one song jeete hai chal which is melodious.
I saw a lot of crying at the the end and some people also gave standing ovation to the movie.Personally I loved the movie.
My rating-9.5 out of 10.
