MS Dhoni Retires from Test Cricket: Reactions from Bollywood

Indian Captain and cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced his retirement from Test cricket. In his typical non-fussy style, he announced his retirement after the 3rd test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Dhoni is one of the most successful cricket captains ever. He won India the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup back in 2007, captained the No 1 Test side in the world and hit the winning runs in India’s historic World Cup win in 2011 (a shot that is etched in the memory of every Indian).

  • Rahul Bose:  Missed the last hour of play. And Dhoni’s retirement from tests. Might have to make my lunches shorter. Said it before, i’ll say it again : as a test captain Dhoni was the least impressive. He is at his captaincy best in the shorter formats.
  • Sophie Choudry: An absolute gentleman and a class act both on and off the field! Thank you MS Dhoni
  • Saqib Saleem:  One of the most impactful players of this era… Blessed to have seen him play! Lets get the world cup now Mahi
  • Shekhar Kapur: We will miss u MS Dhoni. Such an enigmatic player / captain / man. As long as you were on the field, anything could happen.

  • 10 more for 100 tests. 124 more for 5000 test runs. This is a man who doesn’t care for landmarks. He is a landmark!

  • It was the right decision on his part since he needs to concentrate in One days as he is one of the best one day batsmen

  • Not a fan of Dhoni, but this man has taken Indian team a new height.
2 worldcups,1 ICC champions trophy and Made India no.1 in test ranking. What else someone ask from a captain.Wish you good luck dhoni for WC 2015,hope a dhansoo WC ahead.
    #salute,#respect Mahi.

  • Good decision!!!!
As his performance nor captaincy wasn’t upto mark since last few months in test cricket……
See you in the shorter format of the game…
    GOOD LUCK!!!!

  • dhoni maybe a great captain and an excellent player in odis but in overseas test he is below avg.underhis captaincy india has lost 2 test series in Australia, england and one each in newzealand and south Africa

  • It was shocking to hear that Mahi retires from test format.. but he was the greatest captain ever. No one can ever fill his place, not as captain or keeper.

  • I will rate Dhoni higher than Sachin any day…
Sachin was more worried about his personal landmarks..
Sachin was a better batsman than him no doubt, but was’nt a team man.
    #saluteDhoni

  • @babaji, the old bhojpuri fellew if dhoni is better than sachin then arjun kapur, varun dhawan are better than hr and akki…

  • Agree, he have good success ratio. But his first priority was not India, that was he himself. So selfish. He ruined many of the senior players career. Because of him many great players retired when they were good at their career. Eg, Dravid, Lakshman, Sewag, Gambir , And many more.

any way good decision , retire from Odi too and concentrate on making money with CSK

  • Sreeshanth indirectly said something against Dhoni in a channel interview yesterday.as he say more will come outside soon regarding the match fixing issue and so on.

Dhoni had a great political influence in BCCI that’s why he existed even he was so bad in his career.

Don’t compare Sachin With Dhoni. Sachin was a legend in As well as a cricketer and a human

  • I respect dhoni as an odi captain but it’s good for test cricket that he retired because he is one of the worst test captain.hope India will win wc2015 outside India, this will actual test of dhoni.

@babaji ka thullu, that’s your standard you preferred akki/hr over KING KHAN just like you now preferred dhoni over sachin.whoever blame sachin/KING KHAN who are far more than just legends is not deserving to live.

@ultron,yeah I also searched bhai’s tweet because he delivered 2nd most flops even in this year January he delivered another flop called jai ho,lol ,we are too boring of these kind of flop south remake classless actors.

    @Romance,agree with you bro completely.

@bulli fan,oh no even if bhai again will return to tihar jail still OUR KING WILL RULE Bollywood forever.

  • @babaji
dhoni may be great cricketer, but sachin is the god of indian cricket.he is the most loved person in this era.dhoni has many haters, but sachin has no pure haters.

  • @ babaji
How can u say these words for the legend…
He has done so much for Indian cricket..
If he played for himself why did he retire in ODI’S first and played only one T20 though he did well in IPL and could have played test matches for few more years and I can bet nobody had courage to keep him out of the team….

  • @babaji, Sachin was selfish. lol.

how many matches you have seen of Sachin? I have seen him play from the first match.

do you know how many ODIs he played before makign his first century?

do you know how many times he got hundred hitting a sixer?

do you know how many times he got out in the 80s and 90s. going for unnecessary big shots.

Dude, he has played for 21 years, and he is selfish?

have you ever played in local cricket match to talk about him? do you know what it takes to get in to the ranji team?

don’t talk about someone like Sachin just because some numbwit$ around you or some $hit media talks ill about him.

Dhoni is the best captain, ever, no doubts, even Sachin acknowledges it, no need for others to say it.

Sachin was the lone struggler in the early 90s to the start of the millenium. He was alone fighting while all others struggled or took money to get out. This we are talking of his prime age.

He got support later with Saurav and Dravid, and with Laxman only chipping in once in a while.

People used to switch off radios and tv sets once Sachin got out, because they knew what others were capable off.

Do they do it now? no, because now we have the talent till the tail end of playing 11. It was never the case when Sachin was playing.

When Dhoni came he was indeed lucky to have players like Sachin in his prime form, new players like Yuvraj, Raina and many others who made sure that the team never crumbled once Sachin got out.

Then came the new gen batsman like Kohli, Pujara etc., and good bowlers that made India proud.

Do you know the impact of Sachin?

After Sachin came, every nook and corner in India started playing more cricket. Everywhere there were new clubs and teams springing up. More and more parents were sending their children to play in cricket academies.

The only reason and the only thing they all wanted was to get a new Sachin. Such was the impact of Sachin Tendulkar.

He has inspired millions in the country, including MS Dhoni, Sehwag and the current sensation Virat Kohli. They all wanted to play like Sachin. That’s Sachin.

Do you have a bowler of Shane Warne’s calibre now? That guy who instilled fear in everyone was thrashed all over the park by Sachin. Sachin changed his stanced and practiced day in and day out to counter Shane.

Look at the Aussie toour of how Sachin played him, and how others fared.

I can go on and on about his achievements.

  • Dhoni, Hats off to you for being the Captain Cool.

You are and were the best captain ever of the Indian cricket team.

All the best to your future.

The best thing about Dhoni is that he didn’t care what others think and did what he felt right.
