‘The Accidental PM’: Bollywood Movie on Manmohan Singh

A Bollywood movie will be made on former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh. It will be based on Sanjaya Baru’s controversial book ‘The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh’.

The voice over at the very beginning of the film, will have the following lines “It takes years of labour and exemplary political acumen to even dream of heading a state. But this is the story of a man who possessed neither, and yet went on to become a prime minister. A man, who was unaware even a day before his anointment, that he will be PM of the World’s largest democracy”

The producers of the film are going for a big release, as ‘The Accidental PM’ will be released in India and overseas in more than 12 different languages. A teaser of the film is expected to released on August 30.

While a young actor from Punjab is expected to play the role of Manmohan Singh, Manoj Bajpayee has been approached to play Sanjaya Baru.

“The movie will be a true reflection of Mr Sanjaya Baru’s book. The endeavour is not to create any sensation but to present a true account of what transpired during those ten years which changed the political spectrum of the country and fortunes of India’s oldest political party – Congress” said Sunil Bohra, who has produced several films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Shahid, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and more.

Bohra said he decided to make a feature film and not a documentary on the book, after an eight-month-long research.

“Having realised the significance of the unparalleled content the book has, we have decided to make a commercial movie out of it and not confine it to a documentary” he said.

Sanjaya Baru was Manmohan Singh’s media advisor for a period of 4 years between May 2004 to August 2008. He released a book in 2014, ahead of the general elections in which the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance came to power with a huge majority – the first party to get a clear majority since 1984.

  • As a scholar , I will award him full marks.
As an economist, I will award him full marks.
As a person, I will award him full marks.
But he can’t be categorized as “Legend” because all his good works (done in past) have been nullified by his pathetic performance as the P.M. of this country.
Nation will never forgive him for being a mute spectator, when he was in authority and he could have done a lot more to stop the draining of wealth from this country.

  • @ Tiger, dude, with all due respect, you do not understand politics like most of the others.

There is no question of doubt that Manmohan Singh sir is one of the brilliant minds of the country. He was the finest Finance Minister.

But, it ends there. It is not just opposition party who are against him, but the common public, because of his silent attitude to number of problems. He himself quoted in his book that he felt at times he could have taken a stand at many important point during his regime. So, you just need to guess, who was it that was stopping him from doing that?

Also, stating that Modi getting standing ovation, not 1 but 10 times, at the US Congress, is because of Manmohan Singh, is one of the biggest blunders I have ever heard.

I am not a Modi Bhakt, neither a congress hater, but the fact remains, that Modi has a magnetic attraction in his speeches and straight talk that was absent in India since our very own Smt. Indira Gandhi, who was equally awesome. He doesn’t talk numbers, he talks simple and to the point, which the massess and the classes equally connect.

I have not seen the charisma of Indira mam and Modi sir in any other leaders. They were/are brilliant and fearless. There were good PMs, highly educated, but not Vibrant and Dynamic as these two.

I guess being a Salman fan, you should accept that the Modi charisma is equally like that of Salman on how he attracts the masses. What say?

  • @jc:

Buddy, first of all I am not the one who started these all. I just praised respected Manmohan ji (not the dumb Rahul Gandhi). Didn’t say a single word against modiji and government. Still some people appeared and started replying me calling Manmohan ji puppet, remote control etc. Abb kya humein kisi ko praise karne ka bhi haqqq nahin hain???

Now cocomes to your points. Actually I understand politics very well but on the famous line “Jaise Ko Taisa”.

Yes he was mostly silence over those scams and didn’t take any stand. But we should not forget our current PM is doing the same. Modiji yet to say a single word on Lalit Modi scandal, Vyapam scam, DDCA, ongoing Khadse scam etc.

The main motive of modiji’s recent US visit was to get membership of NSG. Without Indo-us nuclear deal I.e not. Hence, modiji’s recent US & other 4 nations’ visit’s credit goes to Manmohan ji’s deal.

Fully agree that modiji can attract thousands through his wonderful speeches and fake promises like- ‘I have 56 inched chest aur main Pakistan ko Dhul chata dunga.’ ‘I will return black money within 100 days.’ ‘I will deposit 15-20 lakh to everyone’s account and bring ASSCHE din for them’..

If he is such fearless leader then why does he & his government need permission for everything from a special ‘parivar’??? Why do his whole cabinet needs to report that particular ‘parivar’???

Agree with your last point to some extent…Chahe Jaise bhi ho he attracts masses!!!

  • @Tiger

You have some strong pre-conceived notions about RSS. It’s the VHP & Bajrang Dal (a small part of the RSS) & some radicals Yogis that r the nuisance makers.

I am sorry for deviating from main topic (i.e. Manmohan Singh) but I had to say this. The mainstream media shows only the crooked side of the RSS. But the ground-reality is different.

  • @xzone:

“Now, Even you will agree that CONgress (a party with long and widespread political heritage) took the people of this country as granted.”
Fully agree with this line. But cheap agenda of communalism and caste belong to BJP more. How could you forgotten the famous lines like….Desh ko Muslim free bana denge, Khans ko Pakistan bhej denge?? Even Mujaffarnagar violence’s main culprits are now their MPs.

I have already replied to #mohit regarding my hate for Congress. Don’t want to repeat the essay again. Read that..

But you have forgotten that that dharna & nautanki party has fulfilled two of their Biggest promises- SASTI BIJLI & Muft Paani (to some extent). But our strongest PM yet bring back Black money & Daud Ibrahim, yet to deposit 15 lakh to my account, yet to add pok to India..

When did I deny those scams??? Even a congressi chamcha can’t deny them. But we must accept that in spite of such big scams & scandals he make India 3rd Biggest economy in the world from 10th,
the Bombay stock exchange reach over 25,000 points from 7000 points, and above all our current government’s whole policy depend upon his FREE ECONOMY policy. That’s masterclass of legend Manmohan ji..

Yes, he was convicted for a scam. But you should not forget modiji was convicted for killing thousands of innocents. Hence such conviction make no sense..

Hahaha….Calling me religious fringe! That’s why whole the day I bash a true Muslim SRK and praise a half Muslim Lord Ganesha worshiper Salman. You asked me to accept you a neutral guy but at last you have shown your bhaktgiri!!!

  • @ Tiger,

Politicians, will promise the moon, that doesn;t mean they are gonna fulfill it. To grab power everyone does that. Do you really think black-money will come back, and Swiss banks will agree? Also, people like Lalit Modi and now Vijay Mallya are just political tools being used for advantages. Its too long and complexed thing to discuss here.

I have great respect for Manmohan sir for his duty as the FM, and I greatly appreciate the work done by Modi in Gujarat. I have met many people from Gujarat and even border areas of Rajasthan who have only praises for this guy.

Also, his development agenda is real, and he doesn’t take orders from anybody. The proof of the same is the number of temples and other religion structures he removed during the many roads and highways he built in Gujarat, and hence he is not one of the favoured in the “parivar”.

People mistake that BJP was voted to power. No, it is not. People voted Modi to power. The result is seen in the Assembly elections, where if the other party has done good work, they did not vote BJP. But, while electing for PM, people only looked at his development approach. No other parivar or any other religious things played in their mind when he was elected.

  • @gj007:

Dude, the whole discussion was very much informative and healthier one. So much pleased to see nobody is calling me Deshdrohi or Pakistani. What is the need of bringing those yogis, Bajrang or rss??

I didn’t say a single word against RSS (directly or indirectly). How could you say that I have some pre conceived notions about RSS???

The mainstream media also shows only the crooked side of Manmohan Singh ji and doesn’t show his contributions for modern India. That’s why people are bashing the legend Manmohan ji unnecessarily.

  • Tiger absolutely brilliant connents on Dr manmohan ji.
There will be movie on our strongest pm modiji “Columbus Return”

  • @JC:

I know that black money will never come back. Keep aside black money issue. But can you name a single big promise that has been fulfilled till now??? But promises like…. ‘I have 56 inched chest aur main Pakistan ko Dhul chata dunga,’ ‘I will return black money within 100 days,’ ‘I will deposit 15-20 lakh to everyone’s account and bring ASSCHE din for them’ make him famous among masses. More than that these promises build his STRONGMAN image. You can’t deny that at all. Agree with your Lalit Modi & Vijay Malya point.

If I ask why do you like Manmohan ji as FM but as PM your answer will be “he was silent and did not take any stand during scams & scandals”. Isn’t modiji doing the same thing?? Has modiji said a single word on Lalit Modi scandal, Vyapam scam, DDCA scam, ongoing Khadse scam ???

Agreed that no parivar or any other religious things played in their mind when he was elected. But the line “he doesn’t take orders from anybody and makes his own decisions” is totally baseless. Because if that has been the truth he could not have appointed Maya Kodnani & babu Bajrangi (I don’t need to introduce them) in his cabinet (Gujarat govt), Giriraj Singh & Sanjib balyan (union govt) would not have been bearing mahapurush/mahila like Yogi Adityanath, sadhwi Prachi, sakshi maharaj etc.

I think you are enough politically aware to see that the rulling party can’t even make a CM candidate for a state without the permission of a particular family. Even our strongest PM’s name was recommended for the PM candidate by that family and then the party sidelined Adwani ji and we got our strongest PM ever. All the union ministers need to report that special parivar after a time period.

BTW, you are free to like & praise whom do you want. I nobody to questioning on it. Similarly I have every right to praise Great Manmohan ji for his contributions to build modern India. Noone should have any problem!!!!
