Most Bollywood movies have a feel-good ending, after many twists and turns, two lovers always unite. But its a myth that only such movies work at the Indian box-office.

1) Mother India – The 1957 classic is an Oscar nominated film. What do I say? Brilliant performances, role of a lifetime for Nargis. Watch it if you haven’t already.
2) Vaastav – One of the best Gangster films to be produced by Bollywood and what a climax. Tragic, unfortunate, depressing… yet the film lingers in your mind long long after the credits roll.
3) Anand – The whole friendship between Amitabh and Rajesh Khanna, the cancer issue, those dialogues, the death scene, the voice recording scene.. Brilliant. Rajesh Khanna was mind blowing!
4) Tere Naam – This movie is under-rated and its arguably Salman Khan’s best performance this decade. Music is Himesh Reshammiya’s best as a music composer.
5) Sholay – The death scene of Amitabh Bachchan, ensures a sense of profound loss. The film is filled with tragedy and that’s exactly what makes it great. Most believe Sholay to be the best film ever, we disagree. Most definitely one of the best, but certainly not “the best” ever.

Can anyone tell me the name of this hindi movie? i’ve been looking for it forever. here’s the basic plot:
it starts with a young married woman (A for the sake of clarity) about to leave to go to america with her son to live with her husband. she is very close to her parents but dislikes one of her uncles. it is revealed that her uncle is in fact her father and they proceed to tell her about her real parents in a flashback.
The real father and his brother ( the woman’s adoptive parents) both got married and lived at home with their parents. The brother had a son, but his wife nor him could care less for the child. The other brother and his wife took care of the boy as if he was their own, he even called her “mom”. One day the child and her got into a small argument and the child ends up being killed in an accident where he is run over by a moving cart at a festival. The aunt is devastated and goes into depression. It happens that the young woman, A, her son is the exact image of the son that her parents had lost. She visits her real mother in the asylum but she does not recognise her..as she is still grieving for the child. In the end, A(the daughter) left the son with her mother who believes this is her son come back to her and is shaken out of her depressive state.

Sarita-the film is Sanjog starring Jayaprada & Jeetendra. Its a nice picture-in the end the mother (played by Jayaprada in an older role) feels as though her son has come back to her & she is shown as coming out of the asylum & moving about on the lawns of her house with her husband & the little boy quite cheerfully. Can’t be termed a tragedy exactly, though the movie contains a lot of heart-rending scenes.
Veer Zara has a happy ending alright-the hero & heroine reunite in their old age & their feelings are still the same for each other
There is this very sad sounding song ‘Diwani diwana…………Teri bahon mein guzre zamana’ which is available on youtube. It sounds really pathetic -it seems that it is describing the death of 2 lovers. any further info on it?

anyways spiderman and ABD, yes, movies where the characters die leave a bigger impression on you. they really make you feel. if i where to make a movie, it would have a sad ending. it just leaves you with more emotions.
