Anurag Kashyap to direct Dev.D, the modern version of Devdas with Abhay Deol playing the lead role of Devdas and Mahi Gill to play the role of Paro. With screenplay by Vikramaditya Motwani ,unlike the original story this is about self discover and not self pity. Dibyendu Bhattacharya will play Chunilal’s character while the rest of the cast is yet to be decided.
Anurag informs that Abhay Deol and his friend Devika Bhagat developed the idea and informed Anurag during the Football World Cup last year. The film will showcase how Devdas deals with contemporary issues. The character resemble the original ones but with a completely new take on it. It?s a completely realistic and contemporary film. Devdas will be seen in modern clothes like jeans and T-shirts andl fight too.
Anurag says ?It?s in the writing process and it?s too early to talk about. It?s a complete modern take on the book and not on Bhansali?s or Bimal Roy?s film.”
Anurag?s forthcoming film No Smoking is under post production and will release in September.
