Love Aaj Kal box office update, crashes on Monday

Love Aaj Kal has broken some serious records at the box office and should go on to be the biggest solo Saif Ali Khan film ever.

The film has netted about 26.5 crores in its first weekend, grossing approximately 10% more than Akshay Kumar’s Kambakht Ishq that released in July.

While it has done great business in India, overseas (UK, US, Australia, Pakistan and others) too the film has surpassed expectations grossing close to 16 crores during the weekend. Some figures below

  • United States – $1.24 million (Rs 6 crores)
  • United Kingdom – £410,000 (Rs 3.3 crores)
  • Pakistan – 1 crore Pakistani Rupees (Rs 60 lakhs)
  • Australia – $164,109 (Rs 80 lakhs)

The rest coming from other parts of the world like UAE.

Some weekend records for Love Aaj Kal

  • 2nd biggest grosser in India after Ghajini
  • 9th biggest grosser in UK
  • 5th biggest grosser in US

So overall, overseas and India combined, Love Aaj Kal has almost recovered its investment and has done enough to be Saif’s biggest opener ever. But if you expect us to conclude this box office update, calling the film the first BLOCKBUSTER of the year.. Not yet!

The average to negative word of mouth has begun to affect collections on Monday. At the Indian box office the film has dropped significantly by around 60% during the crucial few weekdays. If the collections continue to dip, this film, atleast in India should be no more than a HIT.

But with no releases next week, Love Aaj Kal should continue to be the first-choice for movie-goers until Kaminey hits screens on 14th August.

  • Correction: Agyaat is releasing August 7th, so there is a film releasing the week after that of Love Aaj Kal

  • Well Agyaat is hardly going to affect Love Aaj Kal’s collections.. It is a very small film, released on very few screens.

  • This a brainless time and money waster. Either the film reviewers are brainless buffoons or they are bribed by the film producers. (sorry to buffoons for insulting them by ocmparing with film reviewers!)

  • I agree with M vaqqas, the full is total crap. They have mentioned australia, i am in sydney and have seen the movie the very next day on saturday and the occupancy was just 30-35% ( Reading Cinemas, Auburn-Sydney). The reviews are totally biased and forcibly feeding into the audience mouth that it is a Hit. The maximum status this movie can fare is average. It cant be a HIT.
