London Dreams Box office updates

All London Dreams Box office updates will be published here.

A few multiplexes in Bangalore : Started slow, morning shows were poor (20%).. but has picked up for the afternoon shows (40 – 50%). The word of mouth is good.

Mumbai : In Mumbai too the start was slow (30%) afternoon shows were better. But lower than expected for a big budget film starring Salman Khan.

4:00 PM IST update – Single screens are poor, business has picked up after a slow start this morning. Advance booking for evening shows are good. Critic reviews and audience reactions are pretty positive.

7:15 PM IST update – Business has doubled for the evening and night shows. Few screens at select multiplexes in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai are sold out (shows are 9PM). For those curious, Aladin looks almost certain to be a disaster, unless it picks up on Saturday and Sunday.

11:00 PM IST update – Day 1 at multiplexes was mixed for London Dreams. Collections improved drastically during the later half of the day at multiplexes. Not doing too well on single screens. More updates tomorrow, stay tuned.

*********************************

Saturday updates

Bangalore – Good business at multiplexes throughout the day, especially INOX and PVR Cinemas. Single screens aren’t too great in Bangalore.

Mangalore (Karnataka) – Fantastic collections at Big Cinemas (Bharat Mall). When we contacted the Manager of the multiplex he said “London Dreams is doing well, family audiences are loving it, collections should improve further on Sunday. Aladin opened very poorly, around 10% occupancy for the Morning show on Saturday. Its targeted at the kids and Sunday being a holiday, we expect a better response.”

Mumbai – Much like Bangalore, Business has picked up after a slow start on Friday. Sunday is expected to be even better.

Overall, all India business for the first 2 days should be around Rs 100 million (10 crores – nett gross).

*********************************

Sunday updates – Appreciation from the youth and family audience alike has resulted in excellent collections on Sunday all over. Doubled the collections of Saturday, which is a good sign. The weekend business is around 15 – 17 crores.

*********************************

Monday – The India Australia cricket match has affected collections. Overall Week 1 collections are expected to be somewhere between 24 – 28 crores, which is good. Much like Blue, second week is crucial for London Dreams. But unlike Blue which had no competition in its second week, two biggies release this Friday – Jail and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. While Jail wouldn’t prove to be much of a competition, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s APKGK would be the first choice next week. Will London Dreams show life this weekend or end up being an average grosser, remains to be seen.

Tuesday – Bad news! The collections have dropped after recording decent collections on Monday. The drop was expected (since Monday was a holiday) but with 2 big releases coming up, the show-count would reduce drastically at multiplexes for London Dreams. A HIT seems highly unlikely now. Open second week would have been ideal. Lifetime nett gross should struggle to touch 40 crores in India.

*********************************

Updates: London Dreams crashed further on Wednesday and Thursday. The first day of Week 2 (Friday) saw a drop of more than 75% compared to its first Friday. Lifetime nett gross should be under 31 – 32 crores which would be way below expectations. Below average / Flop likely. Very disappointing.

  • First weekend – 15 crores
  • Week 1 – 23 crores
  • Week 2 – 7 crores

Total in 2 Weeks – 30 crores

Box office Verdict – FLOP

    • I really like salman but when u seen this movie. have u notice that both actor in one scene and salman has just not stoppable with his dialouge and ajay just express him self his eye and body language.

this is call true perfomance. when any one give u dialouge and u just split it out. it’s not call acting guys ya i belive that salman is good actor he did good job in this movie but and i agree with that he is very simple and pure hearted in this movie that’s why everybody likes him but just think guys who present him self in nagative shade who just often like the people but this is Ajay devgn yarr he is macho actor ya he don’t show him self like salman did but if u call acting so plz cross your heart and say the truth. In india very big fan following of salman noy just in but whole world. and very much person like Ajay devgn i don’t mind it but if 30% like Ajay & 60% like salman i think this 30% i called Class people. B’cpz i belive that crow is everyware but class people is not just u shown them self.

so that Ajay is class. & he proves him self in every movie sorry if i heart any salman khan’s friend. i like salman but when i check the every site evrybody is being mad fan of salman and they not even mentation Ajay thats why i dont agree so if u watch the movie b’coz u r salman khan fan so plz watch it again being a normal audiance and say it till u think that i say any thing wrong so plz comment on me byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…

    • LD is a surprise package. But 1 thing i cld’nt understand is why people r just praising salman foe this muvi? I think Ajay Devgan’s intense character in this muvie is overshadowing. i think this is the salman’s fan’s opition only. In my opinion Ajay Devgan always proves himself as a talented, versatile and hardworking actor. thus everybody is tired of prasing him, and may be salman’s first good performance he is on hype.
But the most gud performance was portrayed by Ajay Devgan in this muvie.
So, i wan 2 suggest people 2 think abt Ajay Devgan after watching this muvie. He is the best.

London Dreams grossed around 3.50 crore nett on Monday. This is a decent collection for Monday but as it was a holiday a better total was expected. The cricket match may have made a dent of around 10-15% into collections like Saturday.

The film now has a total of approx 18.50 crore nett in four days after a 15 crore nett weekend. The first week looks like finishing in the 23-26 crore nett region depending on how well it holds up on Tuesday.

This week will see the release of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani which will get plenty of screen space at multiplexes meaning a heavy reduction of shows for London Dreams. Single screens will be less affected but London Dreams is doing average to poor business at single screens and better at multiplexes. The film is likely to turn out an average fare at best.

    • Business Talk With Taran Adarsh

Not the film, but the price that fails!

      November 4, 2009 – 08:16 IST
Ever since I was a kid and would accompany my father to ‘Trade Guide’ during vacations, I kept hearing one sentence repeatedly, every time a big film failed at the box-office: It’s not the film, but the price [economics] that fails. Strangely, I hear this statement far more frequently these days.

Till we control our budgets, the red marks would continue to shine on our balance sheets. To start with, the actors need to cut down their fees pronto. Sure, a few actors have initiated this, but by merely foregoing a few lacs out of those crores isn’t going to help. One needs to re-work on the price structure.

There’s no denying that the first two-week business has shown an escalation, if the film works at the box-office. Say, if a film manages to touch Rs. 45 cr. by the end of 14 days [second week], it means that the distributor’s share would be anywhere between Rs. 23 cr. to Rs. 25 cr.

Let’s assume that the film is priced at Rs. 35 cr. [incl. P & A expenses]. It would mean that the distributor would comfortably recover the investment from Overseas theatrical, Audio, Satellite and non-theatrical avenues, depending on the merits of the film. But if the cost is anywhere between Rs. 50 cr. to Rs. 60 cr., just imagine the plight of the distributor.

That brings me to LONDON DREAMS. After a strong Sunday, the business held well at some multiplexes of big centres [plexes mainly] on Monday, although the single screens continued to behave indifferently. However, at some plexes, the Monday figures were lower than Friday, which is not a positive sign. Again, the business witnessed a further decline on Tuesday.

The audience feedback is positive, but the numbers are clearly missing. Given its unstable business in India and dull performance in Overseas, it would be difficult for LONDON DREAMS to recover the investment.

On the other hand, ALADIN has proved a debacle of epic proportions. It’s shockingly low business has sent shock waves across the industry. Sadly, its distributors would lose a massive chunk of their investment.

    • lets just wait and see wat happens Amish.
