Sudhir Mishra’s version of Devdas to be produced by Pritish Nandy Communications will feature Lara Dutta and Shiney Ahuja in the lead role as Paro and Devdas. Soha Ali Khan has be finalised to play the role of Chandramukhi while Saurabh Shukla has also been roped in for one of the characters.
When contacted, Sudhir confirmed the news saying, ” Yes, Lara has been signed to play Paro’s role as she has amazing self confidence and look of a strong woman, just like the way i m seeing Paro in the movie.”
Claiming his movie to be different from Bimal Roy’s classic and Sanjay Leela’s color version, Mishra says, ” The film revolves around the three characters from the original story but i m giving a new dimension to the story by putting their relationships and understandings in a new place in a new time.”
Mishra further explains regarding the political touch given to the lead character, “I wanted to make a political film and I was interested in using these characters. Devdas became a man with political lineage. Political dynasty in our country follows from parents to children. What if Devdas was like that? He comes back from London with a political dynasty and Paro is a commoner the same way as in classic Devdas.”
The film which will be shot in Rajasthan, Delhi and Gurgaon, will go on floors in October and the shoot is expected to be wrapped up by March.
