@Hrehaan, it has a lot to do with SRK’s star power in overseas, and Krrish-3’s genre, which is very popular in overseas’ big markets like USA/Canada, UK, Australia.
I think most fairly calling Krrish-3 (after it beats CE in India) as the highest grosser in domestic market, or the biggest domestic grosser ever, and CE as the highest worldwide grosser would be most suitable.
While overseas collections certainly adds up to the profit of a movie, but in India, domestic collection gets the preference, I never heard anybody stating that 3 Idiots earned 386 or 392 crore worldwide.
Anyways, I do think that overseas collections should be mentioned more frequently in Indian media, too. It also shows the growth of Bollywood.

MUMBAI: The Diwali break and the superhero theme – both have done wonders for Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Krrish 3?. The film is performing spectacularly at the Box Office.
Having crossed the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) mark at the ticketing counter within its first five days, and continuing to do consistent business on Day 6 & Day 7, ‘Krrish 3? has now placed itself 3rd – in the the All Time Highest First Week list!
With this, Hrithik stands only behind superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in his first week at the box office.
1. Chennai Express: At the end of 7 days SRK’s film stood at about Rs 1.48 billion (Rs 148.94 crore) net. Including paid previews, the collections stood at a mighty, unchallenged Rs 1.55 billion (Rs 155.69 crore) net.
2. Ek Tha Tiger: This Salman Khan starrer collected in the range of Rs 1.38 billion (138.26 crore) net by the end of its first week.
3. Krrish 3: Wednesday – Day 6- saw collections in the range of Rs 141.1 million (Rs 14.11 crore) net. Thursday – Day 7 – was slightly lower, with figures of approximately Rs 98.9 million (Rs 9.89 crore) net.
The first week total of ‘Krrish 3? (Hindi only) therefore stands at about Rs 1.27 billion (Rs 127.34 crore) net.
