The strike has officially been called off and the first big release in almost 2 months, since Akshay Kumar’s 8 x 10 Tasveer, is Vashu Bhagnani’s Kal Kissne Dekha. The final official release date of the Jackie Bhagnani starrer is June 12th 2009.
So does this mean a big opening at the box-office? Well, Yes and No.
1) No big release in over 2 months is one huge advantage for the film, the audience is thirsty for the “big screen experience”. And with the film being a love story, we expect families to visit multiplexes in huge numbers.
2) Some big names, like Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, have indirectly promoted the film. The Aamir Khan vow to clean single-screen toilets, hit headlines!
3) Without the strike, Kal Kissne Dekha would have been just-another-release. With the actors and the director, being newcommers, the box-office prospects would have been dependent on strong word-of-mouth. Not anymore!
Yes, the budget for promotion had to be increased due to the delay, but the Bhagnani and co just couldn’t have picked a better time for the film’s release.
All said and done though, its a good product that sells. If the initial reviews are good and the word-of-mouth strong, Kal Kissne Dekha could well be the biggest hit of the year!
Will you be watching the film next weekend? What are your expectations, can Jackie match Imran Khan’s debut if not that of Hrithik Roshan?? Post your comments below
