Kaanchi Box Office: Yet another disaster for Subhash Ghai

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s last success was ‘Taal’, which did reasonably well at the box office when it releases way back in 1999. Since then, he has directed 5 films – Yaadein (2001), Kisna: The Warrior Poet (2005), Black & White (2008), Yuvvraaj (2008) and last week’s release Kaanchi – all of which have failed miserably at the box office.

Kaanchi has not only failed to take a decent start, but the critics verdict has been equally poor. For a film made on a budget of Rs 14-15 crore, Kaanchi will fail to cross the 5 crore mark, the distributors share will be less than 2.5 crore!

‘Is Subhash Ghai way past his prime as director, should he quit?’ is what most in the trade are asking, but Ghai himself is unperturbed by the lukewarm response that his film has got. “Fresh Monday. Fresh day. Fresh thoughts. Getting busy meeting with fresh writers for fresh concepts, scripts. If you have one. Tell me. I am open” he tweeted on Monday.

  • Subhash Ghai stop making movies. You have lost ability of giving a good and hit film. I saw Yuvraaj and it felt like a 16 year old had directed it.

  • Subash Ghai has lost the plot..he doesn’t have an idea for this generation. His movies were revenge hero vs evil days are gone so with himself. He must retire or start producing otherwise he will be the next Dev Anand.

  • @Legend even though i am a SRK hater..as per my knowledge..Pardes was one of the highly successful movies in 1997..i was in 4th Std then and watched it more than once along with Gupt and Ishq..!!! :)
