The much-awaited box office clash between Raees and Kaabil turned out to be a damn squib, as Shah Rukh Khan reigned supreme, decimating the Hrithik Roshan starrer on Day 1. As per early estimates, Kaabil has collected 8.5 – 8.75 crore on Wednesday, while Raees has collected 20 crore plus. The collections of Raees at almost every theatre that we tracked was 2 to 3 times more than Kaabil.
Like we mentioned in our report, which was published in the evening (Read), the morning shows of Kaabil had occupancy ranging from 10-20% at multiplexes. Raees on the other hand was running at 65% plus at several centres for the early morning shows.
Mid-way through the day, it became quite clear that Kaabil would fall short of the 10 crore mark, but there was hope that it would get to double digits because of positive reports. The growth was there in the evening, but not enough to cross the 10 crore mark – which would still be a low but decent total.
With such a poor start, the film now relies almost entirely on word-of-mouth to recover costs. It needs to show growth in the range of 75%-100% (i.e Thursday collections in the 15 crore range) to have any chance of putting up a healthy total.
If the growth doesn’t come tomorrow, the writing will be on the wall for Kaabil. It would be a tragedy if a film like Kaabil under-performs just because the Roshans decided not to avert the clash and unfortunately for Hrithik, it would be for the second time in a row he’s failing in a clash.
As for Raees, it’s Shah Rukh Khan all the way through. He is without doubt one of the Top 2 crowd pullers in the country and his consistency for last two decades has been phenomenal. This decade hasn’t been very good for him as far as quality films is concerned, but even after two back-to-back under performers, his fan-following is stronger than ever.

The bigger challenge for him would be to do something that he hasn’t done in recent times. While all his films have opened very well, most haven’t sustained in the long run. It’s important for Raees to sustain and put up a total of 150 crore plus at the domestic box office.
The clash has been settled, SRK has comprehensively won it. It’s now going to be about the trend and where the two films go from here.
Can Kaabil close the big gap on Thursday and bring it down to more reasonable levels? Or will Raees be a runaway hit at the box office? These questions will be answered in the next couple of days, with the hold on Friday becoming very important for both films. Kaabil to stay afloat and Raees to become a big grosser.

I am SRK Fan but really feel for Hrithik he is a good person by heart but his Father Roshan is a big big idiot. Becasue of Rakesh roshan only he is getting these failures. rakesh roshan is the one known to fudge collections and i pretty sure he will do it this time as well. I will be watching Raees .

Raees has crushed Kaabil on day 1. The gap is very huge. It looks like Kaabil 2 days collection will be around Raees day 1.
But I think if collection come near 21cr than its great but not extraordinary as it was expected but Kaabil surprised here as it failed to touch double digit. It shows thwt Kaabil didnt generated buzz among audience. The close clash was Dilwale vs BM. As Dilwale also collected 21cr but BM collected 12.5cr.
The other basic difference was that they were complete non holiday as they released 1 week before Christmas, Here both movie benefitted in evening and night shows due to holiday on next day.

Seller performance by Shah Rukh if not his best Dark image performance but my overall vote will go for Sultan Mirza performance in Ouatim. Ajay’s acting was more natural ease and not a single trace of overacting but take nothing away from Raees because Shah Rukh gave out a dedicated and honest portrayal .
dnt understimate Raees it will score more than 150cr mark my word..everyone is liking it

Abbas mastan – bazigar fame.
aziz mirza — (who makes good commercial meaningful family drama)- like chaste chaste, raju ban gaya
shankar – south guy — he makes best films and have offered few films to srk earlier…srk should films of shankar like shivaji the boss .
Raj kumar hirani – srk had rejected his movies – and did biggest mistakes..so should get attached to this no.1 director of industry.
Anand Rai — (Ranjana fame) already srk is doing one with him.
Sanjay leela bansali– to extract his acting talent – but a commercial drama.
Ali abbas — sultan director- who makes best commercial movies.
shamit ameen — chakde fame.
(he should say bye bye to karan , Aditya chopra , farah Khan – who don’t fit srk anymore — they have spoiled his image in last 6-7 years— they fit more for young generation) – utpathan film. even rohut shetty doesn’t can make good film with srk but depends as he is teacher from different generation –

@Madmax, A good movie doesn’t necessarily translate to “must-watch”. Lots of good movies out there and they are among the least watched movies.
Kaabil is suffering more due to the same target audience as that of Raees with Raees having an advantage of bigger star, charisma and production values.
@anushka, Raees v Kaabil can’t be compared to Dilwale v BM situation. Different movies v Similar movies(read target audience).
Moreover Dilwale was poorly received and BM was a must watch epic.
Raees reigns supreme this time.

according to boi.com raees has collected 20.25 crore to 20.50 crore on first day at around 3400 screens. so the collections are very good but nothing out of the world. boi.com has also added that even if the film would have been a solo release the film would have added maximum 4-5 crore net on day 1. so raees would have collected around 24-25 crore net on day 1 with a solo release and that too when next day is a national holiday when night shows grow. salman’s highest collection on working day is approx 27 crore net and that too ramzan. and as far as aamir is concerned dhoom 3 went on to beat all opening day record despite being a normal day release. pk collected aprox 26 crore net and dangal 29 crore net on working day despite having nothing for the masses. so i don’t know how srk is among the top two croud pullers according to indicine. whom indicine is putting out to include srk , aamir or salman only they know. but that comment is a joke according to me. he is nowhere near salman when it comes to initial and forget about aamir who can break initial records even on non-holiday.
my bet has basicaly backfired of raees collecting 25 crore net on republic day because i never knew raess was going to get 3400 screens. the screens are similar to ek tha tiger which did 30.61 crore net on independence day 4 and half years ago. raees with a much higher ticket prices and a big national holiday and with same kind of screens should beat that number today. 25 crore is too less on 3400 screens in holiday. but i always keep my promise and i will not comment in this site for a long time ( may be tubelight release or tzh release) if raees touches 25 crore net today.

Hey blind man, I know Sultan was Eid release (partial holiday). That’s why I have compared Raees + Kaabil’s 1st day collections with Sultan’s 4th day (completely non holiday) collections. Next time onwards before come up with an illogical reply read the comment carefully.
