‘Hollywood’ star Priyanka Chopra returns after a successful outing in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, with yet another female-centric film titled ‘Jai Gangaajal’.
The film is a sequel to Ajay Devgn’s 2003 classic ‘Gangaajal’ which was also directed by Prakash Jha.
Factors benefitting Jai Gangaajal on Day 1 at the box office:
- Priyanka Chopra’s presence, her first release after Bajirao Mastani
- Sequel to a critically acclaimed film
- Wide release of 2600 screens, should open well at mass centres
Factors that don’t fall in favour of Jai Gangaajal:
- Prakash Jha hasn’t been in the best of form, his last three films (after Raajneeti) have failed at the box office
- Lack of interest at metro cities, multiplex business likely to stay away on Friday morning. In other words, Jai Gangaajal will be word-of-mouth dependent.
- Since the time period between the first film in the series and second is nearly 13 years, the recall value is low.
