A week ago, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ was expected to easily cross the 100 crore mark and the industry had pinned its hope on the film crossing the 150 crore mark. After all, it was Shah Rukh Khan’s return to a genre that has excelled in and delivered the biggest blockbusters of his career.
The film also had the industry’s top leading lady Anushka Sharma and the songs, which are important for romantic films, had gained popularity too even though it did not have a chartbuster.
But less than 6 days after the release of the film, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ has collected just 55 crore net and has fallen to collections in the 3-crore range. With ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ set to release this weekend and business of ‘JHMS’ not holding up in the first week itself, the Imtiaz Ali directed film is certain to finish with lifetime business of less than 70 crore.
A lifetime total of 65-crore is looking likely and that would mean the film would do the unthinkable. It will fall under the total collections of Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha (2015), Rockstar (2011) and even the 8-year-old film Love Aaj Kal (2009).
To say the absolute least, these are shocking numbers. Even outright multiplex films like ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’ used to collected 65 crore in 2015. But here we have a Shah Rukh Khan – Anushka Sharma film, which was sold for very high prices, falling under 70-crore – which in other words, is 40% less than the all-India first day collections of ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’.
Has the expectation and taste of the audience changed after the release of ‘Bahubali 2’ or is it the further increase in entertainment options from online streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video that’s affecting film business? Could it be the ever increasing ticket prices or is the value of stars reducing?
The questions don’t end there. Has the audience completely lost interest in rom-coms or is Shah Rukh Khan losing his audience due to poor choice of films in the last 3 years?

JHMS is not a love story like previous srk films its a urban romcom, jthj was a love story although people not like it very much still did very good business considering clash with masala entertainer if JHMS is love story then it became success only adi/kjo can made this

I am not disappointed 1 or 2 mistakes have little values , and after all we are permanent SRK fans ,we hope for best in future .2018 or 2019 SRK will turnaround table and another success phase will be starting.

Who are the European director and european style film comments are referring to …. what is european about JHMS and who in europe makes or watches this crap …. When Dadaji Met Imtiaz post TAMASHA they after a brainstorming session came up with an idea of a film that with exceed the crappiness seen in previous Imtiaz films- end result was JAB DADAJI MET POTEE
Most of Dadajis idiotic jobless senseless homeless fans were never interested in watching his latest semi porn flick JAB TAK HAI MOJO 2 bcoz they still adore his first porno flick MAYA MEMSAAB which they watch every single night on Brazzers for free before going to bed…!
Lol, mentioning Bahubaali all the time. Number 1 film was ok, Bahubaali 2 was nothing special, only did high numbers due to indian audience not having much of a taste. Better films are made in India yearly, need to look beyond bollywood.

Rumor has it that Anushka only signed onto this project based upon the notion that she would travel across Europe with a guide dog ie Entertainment from Joker Boys crapfest movie ITS ENTERTAINMENT but our jealous Dadaji forced his way into the project hence he would instead be the 65 yr old Guide Dog sorry Tour Guide. Then after that change it was rumoured that Anushka was infact travelling Europe to find her long lost love interest ie Ranveer but again Dadaji had Imtiaz change that plotline n inserted himself as her love interest.
But atleast Imtiaz didnt totally cave into Dadajis insane ideas by not changing the the plot about finding Anushkas ring turn into Smeagol looking for his ring from the treacherous hobbit FRODO…!
PS other ideas from Dadaji were rejected also like 6 sex scenes between our Dadaji n his potee Anushka…!

Too much emphasis is being put on baahubali related to films released thereafter.as an audience i dnt wanna watch similar films week after week.

I wanna watch masala,romance,comedy,horror,drama,action,mish mash of genres ,animation,true stories,underdog films,superhero,whatever genre u can think of ..Only thing being bfr d film i m exposed to posters trailers so dat hv to b engaging and must invoke a feeling of must watch ..and urgency..dn d movie itself shld b engaging …(simple way to explain is-if its romantic i must feel lk fallin in love ..if d actors are in pain ..i shld feel bad …if its comic ..i must hv a laugh wd dem not at dem)…..movie story cld hv bn told mny times earlier but if d scenes dialogues are fresh ..drz a new tk ..a new spin on it …its entertaing and i dnt feel lk ok i watchd ds in so and so movie dn i will end up likin d film

Interest in rom coms isnt lost provided its a good movie ….let me gv example of permanent roommates here ..ds webseries hd bn received very well …coz u fall in luv wd lead pair …u cn relate …u laugh at d comedic bits …maybe audience though cld b fed up of foreign shot ..foreign look films coz Bollywood has had plenty films lk dat and hugely successful too so either mk it whr it feels fresh or hv a desi luv stry ..
Lastly srk …definitely audience has lost interest .. Poor choice of films …him being unbearable in dem as well (case lk hny dilwale)…partly also coz of his overexposure whn publicizing and otherwise …so he shld b completely off public eye and just focus on his upcoming film and mk it as best as possible and dn build dat curiosity among fans and neutrals to watch him on big scteen again.

Srk ‘s fan base is intellectual consisting urban metro family audiences,young school n collage going students who reads reviews and want to invest on such movie that are really good irrespective of their favourite star.If the movie is good enough,they will come in numbers.So,word of mouth is highest beneficiary for Srk other than any actor.If any of upcoming release of srk matches the WOM of Dangal,BB,PK,Hindi medium the collection would definitely much higher than any Salman_Aamir film.Last example Chennai express. Movie was just good released on perfect date.JHMS was liked by only 5%of audience,wait for the collections if WOM touches 90-95%.
It will collect 67 crs due to “Raksha Bandhan” or it would have fallen below 60 crs… So Raksha Bandhan saves it… Anyway it’s Disaster…
The fact is that Imtiaz isn’t Karan Johar, Adi Chopra or Yash Ji to deliver intense romantic film… That’s why from several years I’m saying that SRK is made by KJo, A chopra and Y chopra…
Remove these 3 directors’ films from SRK’s filmography none is clean hit except CE…..

Yash ji, Adi, and KJo used to make intense romance and family type cryinga (Rona Dhona) movie and that was reason which connected well with family audience but Yash ji tried different from JTHJ and it failed…

Films depend upon director but it depends more on script… Ex Tubelight & JHMS, JTHJ, Befikre, and many more and it can be good too as above mentioned films of Sultan Bhaijaan. So chill till Anand’s film arrive don’t fly in air by assuming him a good director or he can go adi way too.

Most over rated film of All time with Cartoonish VFX… it was very clear that VFX was very poor… but still audience say it was the best film vfx wise… Ghanta…
Now it’s very clear that people change their mind by reading the reviews of critics… people blindly believes critics… If Tubelight had got good reviews it would have collected atleast 200 crs same with JHMS it would have grossed 100-120 crs…
And film like Bahubali with full of non sense, illogical actions (as all south films have) and poor vfx can collect huge due to critics…
Bahubali was better than bahubali 2 but B2 collected more than B1 only coz of critics…
It’s all about SRK poor choices of films, he has to fire all his team and hire a new team because his advisors didn’t give him any good advice in the last three years.

I don’t understand why some people say K3G, KKHH, OSO, KANK, MNIK, MHN were blockbusters. All srk films are mediocre at best except Chak de India and Swades. Even i had liked DDLJ when i was kid. Now i can’t bear DDLJ.
@Blure Boy salman is not megastar neither he is bigger than any star? Ask salman to do talaash or fan and release on non holiday. Saari hawa nikal jayegi. Currently aamir is biggest superstar. No one is close to him. His last flop was Mela which released 17 years ago. Not a single flop since then.
