IFFA Awards Nominations 2008 – 2009

The IFFA Awards Nominations for the year 2008 – 2009 has been announced. And like most Bollywood award nominations, we have quite a few surprises.

We all know Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of the IIFA, but does he have control over the nominations? Abhishek Bachchan has been nominated in the Best Actor (Leading Role) category, as well as Best Actor in a Comic Role. If Abhishek’s role was comical then wasn’t SRK’s in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi? If Abhishek indeed goes on to win, it will be very unfortunate. No, not in the Best Actor category, he has literally no chance there. But the comic role award should go to either Tusshar or Anil Kapoor.

Race for Best Story is as stupid as nominting Katrina Kaif for the Best Actress. What was the jury thinking?

Could there be a upset this year at the IFFA? Hrithik Roshan has swept all major awards for Best Actor and so has Priyanka Chopra for Best Actress. Could IFFA surprise by awarding Aamir / SRK the award? Or Aishwarya over Priyanka? Post comments below

  • ABD: Yes I too feel so. Hrithik deserves this award. He did a brilliant job in JA. In fact I believe it is the first good historical I saw in a pretty long time and Hrithik really carried off the role of Akbar pretty brilliantly. In fact Aishwarya did a pretty nice job too but I guess Priyanka’s role in Fashion was author backed and much more strong hence she will get the award.

Hey what do you think about the best debutant male? I think IIFA should surprise everyone and give Rajiv Khandelwal an award. Atleast he should share it with Farhan Akhtar or Imran Khan. That movie really deserve some appreciation and he was awesome in the movie. He did a pretty decent job for a newcomer.

Fathiya: I dont care whether you respect Aamir or not. Thats your own personal choice. And what you are saying about Ghajini can be said about Rabne too. A crappy story, a crappy movie, overacting by shahrukh khan and no logic at all in the movie yet it manages to do good business. Same reason can be given here that the movie was just a blockbuster because of Shahrukh Khan’s (+) Aditya Chopra’s name & fame and the stupid romance only.. Atleast now I can say (following up on your point) that Aamir is a bigger star than Shahrukh because rabne was lifted on its shoulder by two heavyweights (SRK + Adi) yet it was no where near Ghajini in terms of box office collections which was carried all the way by Aamir only ..

And woman have you heard of movies named Dil, Andaz Apna Apna, Jo Jeeta wahi Sikander, Sarfarosh, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Rangeela etc etc etc. Most of them are classics and can be watched anytime. I guess you wont have seen them otherwise you wont have given such a generalised statement about Aamir that he was not cared for 10 years ago.
What was Shahrukh before Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar came into scene .. That is the only reason he is still hanging onto them.
So now please stop giving baseless comments.

How about you just join Bejul and start screaming off your rooftops that SRK is the best SRK is the best. You two will make an excellent combo.

  • Well admit it yo! That SRK is the best.. Stop insulting SRK because you just have jealousy in your mind Ronnie. Your just jealous about him…so just stop… Yes I have heard of those films and have watched some of them too but see aamir is not soo popular as srk.. srk knows this industry more then him however he also knows more about PR and Marketing! SRK also has so much knowledge about cricket way more then aamir… haaha!

  • Ronnie, I still feel that Ashs acting in JA is an award winning performance. If you really want to see how outstandingly an artist performs a role, try imagining another artist in the same role..Do you think Priyanka could carry off Jodhas role in JA like Ash did? I don’t think so, whereas Ash could have easily nailed Priyankas role in Fashion!
Therefore Ash should get the award, in my opinion.

I agree with you about Rajiv Khandelwal. His performance was A-ok!!!

  • Well Ronnie.. if a man doesn’t respect a woman he doesn’t deserve an answer to his questions.. but I’ll do and don’t reply coz this one is the last reply to your comment.

I saw all the movies which u mentioned.. Rangeela & Hum hai Rahi pyaar were good movies ( I didn’t see Sarfarosh) the rest were”crap” movies specially that kachra Jo Jeeta woh sikandar.. why the hype for this movie in the past?! I didn’t like it and saw it again a few months ago and turned it off after watching only half. The only good thing in this movie was the song (Pehla Nasha) that’s all.

  • I forgot to mention that if we are discussing about the past here, then its very true that the film industry has been unfair to Amir Khan. He gave brilliant performances in Rangeela, Akele hum akele tum, Sarfarosh, Hum hain rahi pyar ke to name a few. He should have got awards for these movies, but its a pity that others walked away with these awards!!!

  • Fathiya: Dont shy away from discussion on the pretext of such idiotic reason. Never have I shown disrespect to you nor will I ever. Well the movies which you are calling crap movies stand nowhere near the crap SRK used to do in 90s and the sad part is he even used to walk away with the awards after doing those carp movies. In fact he was the first one who led to the widespread speculations that the awards are bought in those days because none of his movies were good enough to win a single award :D.

And about those supposedly crap movies of Aamir, every single one of them was brilliant in their own way. Well the sad thing is I guess you dont have good enough taste to distinguish which movie is good and which is a bad movie. Okay if you are over man woman thing, tell me one thing was Akele Hum Akele Tum also a piece of crap?

ABD: Well I dont regard awards as a measure to gauge a persons acting capabilities. Many good actors like Sanjeev Kumar, Naseerudin Shah, Aamir Khan etc etc, are not the favorite among juries of the award functions. Just take an example of Abhishek Bachchan getting a nomination for Dostana when there are so many genuine actors waiting to get nominated. Abhishek was not even the lead role in the film. What is the credibility of such awards. Shahrukh always went away with most of these awards while Aamir was always the better actor.

  • Ronnie: each one of us agree and disagree sometimes.. it happens that you mention 10 movies which u loved and i would agree for some as good good movies but not the rest because ppl are different in their tastes – and I mentioned this 100 of times on this website.

Why the hell u consider yourself as a smart guy who knows how to distinguish good from bad.. most of you loved the crap (Golmaal) which I turned off after 5 minutes of watching! couldn’t stand the stupid acting!!!! yeah.. it was a super hit movie.. and that doesn’t mean that the movie was soo good.. it’s just because the audience has a bad taste!

Aamir’s movie (Akele Hum A..T was a good movie.. I saw it 2-3 times long time ago.. I remember I loved some songs too specially the title song. The movie Dil wasn’t a bad movie but wasn’t one of my favourites, and comparing these 2 movies with Qayamat se Q. Tak, the last one is the best ( it’s also Shahrukh’s favourite movie for Aamir Khan)

And about Shahrukh.. u don’t like him.. I know.. and when we don’t like an actor we don’t like his movies too even if he does the best!

Shahrukh too did good and bad, but the bad which are some pure commercial movies were few e.g. Raam Jaane & Badshah and I think Baadsha was a succesful movie at the box office but I didn’t like it, even Phir bi Dil Hai Hindustani which was a hit movie I assume, didn’t like it, except the title song ( now.. do u think I’m a biased woman?!)

Dil To Pagal Hai too was a super hit movie, but I didn’t like it, Dil Se which was an average movie.. I loved it and was just crazy for this movie, loved the script, Manisha’s role and her acting, the songs, the depth in the story.. it was just a unique movie and if Shahrukh would ask me: which is my best movie.. I’d tell him (Dil Se) it’s a great one which I saw 8 times since the release date and will see it again and again.. if u or someone else would say that I’ve a bad taste so let it be ( I consider Dil See a 100 time better than Kabhi Khoshi Kabhi Ghum which was a blockbuster movie and a pure commercial one )

That’s my taste and the way I value movies and actors.. sometimes a movie is a successful one at the box office but nothing special about the cast, the hero/heroine’s acting.. so they don’t deserve awards for that, and sometimes we find the performance of an actor is just brilliant although the movie is not a big success.. if any movie was a hit or a disaster at the box office, so it has hundreds of reasons for that.

I loved too Shahrukh’s Asoka.. was a brilliant movie which didn’t do well because of one reason.. the audience was just (blind!) if you would compare Dil Se, Asoka, Umrao Jaan & Saawariya which were masterpieces movies ( but failed to please the audience) with the crap stupid Golmaal or JTYJN ( which pleased the audience and were super hit movies) then you’d realise that the audience is just blind & stupid!! ( they don’t know how to value good from bad from a-z) that’s my opinion dear Ronnie, whether u agreed or not.

My brother who’s the managing director of cinemas in our country said once: pure commercial movies whether they’re English, Hindi or Arabic do well always at the box office but some realistic movies, romantic or drama which got some good stories fail to please the audience!

And believe this fact: If Taare Zamin Par wasn’t Aamir’s movie.. it was for sure a flop movie.. it worked because of his name and fame as I already mentioned.. that helped this great movie to win.. Aamir’s name only.

Didn’t I tell u that the fault sometimes relies in the audience taste only!

  • Thanks Alina.. the 3 best and top actors are: Hrithik, Shahruk & Aamir.. the 3 of them are good actors, but people love the most (Hrithik & Shahrukh)

Aamir is just arrogant, there4.. he couldn’t win the audience’s heart all these years.. and that’s very important.. the actor’s image in our eyes is very important beside his performance and other stuff.

Saif is more loveable than Aamir.. he must be among the top 5 actors in bollywood.. he deserves it.

  • Hrithik is the best.
    Hrithik got IFFA Award Too.
And i m sure that Kites will be the biggest hit and biggest blockbuster.
Hrithik will get best actor in Kites too.
    I know.
    Shahruk ab tera kya hoga.
    My Name Is Khan….bullshit……..

  • After viewing all the comments posted i found Hrithik is the best &after watching the movie i found he is the only eligible person to grab the best actor award.actualy i’am a person from southern India &knows no hindi but i used to watch hindhi movies, belive me i know theres a stupendous actor AAMIR KHAN after only watching his TZP & RDB.wat n acting ya .i was realy set aback , his performance, his perfectionism speaks throught the movie ‘HE IS THE BEST’.I could understand his acting ,his dialogue through his expressions & through his body language. this impressed me to watch all of aamir’s movie N other hero movies too but i found aamir is the best among all stars of bollyhood.not only due to name& fame his movies do a blockbuster it’s purely his dedication & sincerity at his work . u rockz Aamir!

  • iffa 2009 : Lifetime Achievement Award 2009 for Super Star Rajesh Khanna

    • Taking movies ahead in quantam leaps – Super Star Rajesh Khanna.

Super Star Rajesh Khanna evoked a type of hysteria in India that only Elvis and the Beatles did in the West. The receptivity to his persona was due to the actor’s exuberant presence on screen. The masses felt a type of “deliverance” to a higher and better level through his films. They were elevated and taken forward. They wanted this progress; to cast off the “static” patterns of the past. There was no mere identification with Super Star Rajesh Khanna. He broke all previous success barriers without a godfather or godmother to guide him or shower their favouritism to him. He did it alone and so was called “superstar” for the same reason. Super Star Rajesh Khanna in the eyes of the Indian cinema-goer was taking movies ahead in quantam leaps. Wherever he took them, they would follow. This was a celluolid utopia no one had experienced before or since. As an actor, he broke out of orbit to become a “superstar” and lead. Super Star Rajesh Khanna delivered the cinema from a usual place, and ended “where they lived well” to the other, “but we lived better”. Until another breaks his unforgettable groundbreaking precedent of euphoric conditions, he is still ’the pride of the nation” and the “National Super Star.”
