Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania has exceeded expectations on its opening day at the box office, as the film collected Rs 9 crore on Friday even though the biggest circuit in India, Mumbai, under-performed at the box office.
While Mumbai circuit collected around 2.9 crore, the combined total of Delhi/UP and East Punjab were extra-ordinary at more than 3.1 crore. Mysore and West Bengal were decent.
Torrential rains in and around Maharashtra affected business in Mumbai, Pune and other big centres. However, multiplex-dominated centres in the North were rock-solid throughout the day. New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and others cities were outstanding on Friday.
The forecast for the weekend is more rains in Mumbai, so business is likely to be affected both on Saturday and Sunday. However, the film is carrying good word-of-mouth publicity, so as soon as the rain subsides a little, the audience should come out in numbers.
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is yet another winner for Dharma Productions. The opening numbers could be lower than a holiday release like 2 States, but for a film releasing on a working day, amidst heavy rains and the Ramadan period, the opening is right up there with films like Humshakals, Holiday and 2 States.

@arjun kapoor such a does crap film does not deserve 100 cr. And 2 states also collected 100 cr due to chetan bhagat and alia bhatt. Arjun was weak link in the movie. Dharma movies have got prediactable and are mostly crap like 2 states,htp,gtpm and hskd. Ungli will be fresh lease of air for dharma after this crap rom-coms.

@Arjun Ungli isn,t a delayed movie. Ungli is a big movie that why its taking much time to made.
It is still a huge achievenment for alia and varun both r 2/3 films older to open a film 9 cr. Where as ajay, akshay, saif, abhishek, john, shaheed hardly can open 10+ cr. with their last few movies. Power to nextgen actors.
we are greatly distressed that such idiotic films are shown to be doing well whereas they are actually flops…the websites needlessly promote them or at least try to do so… while the critics too are so hypnotised by the big star cast effect that they do not review the film properly
