Filmkraft Productions’ has announced the release date of Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil, which will go on floors in April this year. The film, directed by Sanjay Gupta, will release in theatres during the ‘Republic Day’ weekend in 2017.
The announcement also sets up a big clash between Kaabil and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho, directed by Milan Lutharia.
While the shoot of Kaabil will be wrapped up by June this year, producer Rakesh Roshan says they are in no hurry to release the film this year.
“All the major release dates this year are already taken. So we’ve reserved January 26, 2017 as the release date for Kaabil. We are in no hurry to release our film”
On working with Sanjay Gupta, who has directed several films but doesn’t have a big commercial hit to his credit, Roshan Sr says “Sanjay narrated a story written by Vijay Mishra, which both Hrithik and I liked. It is something Hrithik hasn’t done before. It is in the thriller genre. It’s different and yet mainstream, somewhat like the films I direct, which are massy. Very different from whatever has been attempted so far in the genre. So you can expect a film that has elements of both Sanjay Gupta’s style and my style of filmmaking”
When questioned about Sudhanshu Pandey’s claims that the script has been stolen, Roshan says ”I don’t pay any attention to such things. As far as I am concerned, the story came to us from Vijay Mishra”
‘Kaabil’ also stars Yami Gautam, Ronit Roy, Sonu Sood and Girish Kulkarni. Since Republic Day falls on Thursday next year, ‘Kaabil’ will have a similar 4-day extended weekend as Hrithik’s Agneepath in 2012.

Never heard about kaabil. It will lose against baadshaho for sure. As Milan and Ajay combo never failed and sanjay gupta is just a crap director.
Moreover Shivaay will give Ajay huge stardom. Shivaay is expected to cross 300 cr. And even if it does 250, it will boost up Ajay’s stardom. And then no one would dare clash with ajay. He has beaten up every actor in clash.
Feels bad for him never gets a solo festival release but yes beats every one who ever clashes.
Quality fans are unhappy because of this urdu name of Hrithik movie, they want only english names for his quality movies. I suggest english meaning of kaabil = Qualified.

Would have been better had they clashed with Dangal instead of baadshaho. A lot of negativity will surround dangal due to aamirs intolerance comments. Kaabil could have taken the benefit. Hope they prepone it to christmas.
I read somewhere this film is copied from a Salman Khan starrer.
Hrithik’sKaabil revolves around two people in love. It’s a revenge saga about a man (Hrithik) avenging the murder of his girlfriend. Salman and Somy Ali had signed a film together called Buland way back in the 90s which had a similar story. Buland had Salman’s revenge after Somy was brutally raped and murdered in the film. And the similarities don’t just end there. Hrithik loses his eyesight in the film, much like Salman did in Buland. Coincidence much?
Buland never saw the light of the day although it was 80 percent complete. The Salman-Somy starrer was shelved abruptly but now years later, Sanjay is re-creating the same world.
I don’t think it is a good release date.

Never heard the name Kabil before. It’s now a new trend to clash with big name and get free publicity and by the way who is Sunjay Gupta. Can any one name his last 3 movies and their boxoffice collection. Hritic need to come out his father shadow. His last non holiday movie kites was flop, bang bang and k3 both boxoffice # are not correct. He is over rated.
Since last year some hrithik fans chanting that thug vs dangal, dhoom 4 vs dangal and then kaabil vs dangal.My question when even on republic day one film is already scheduled than why then can’t release against Dangal with biggest festive period I.e. Christmas, this time there is a campaign #boycott dangal is trending, people are hating Aamir still no one daring to clash with him.
At the end no one is clashing to Dangal, not even bahubali 2 makers. Regarding Kaabil vs Baadshaho clash, I will any day prefer baadshaho as last Ajay-Milan movie ouatim was epic. regarding Sanjay Gupta, I didn’t liked his last 2 directorial movies jajbaa and Shootout at wadala.

Well said @Neeraj. Typical akki fans for you. I am damn sure that non of them will support Ajay or Hrithik if it was a solo. They prefer it to be a clash forgetting one thing that both Hrithik and Ajay are at present the only pair that crossed 100 crs with huge movies. Haider awards won alone suggests how good it was even though it was with Shahid a good actor. Ajay too crossed 100 cr with Srk +Yash banner. so I will not be surprised if both supersedes airlift temporary collection. Hard to pick I am going for Hrithik but will never underestimate Ajay. With or without clash both have the tendency to exceed airlift collection.
