Housefull 3 has started well on Day 2 at the box office, as the morning shows at major centres (including metro cities) was better than Friday morning.
Until around 6PM on Friday (read our update), the first day box office collections of the film was looking like it would finish at around the 13-14 crore mark (which would have been really poor) – but the evening / night shows at multiplexes picked up quite significantly towards the end of the day.
The first day total of Rs 15.21 crore is still about 15-20% below trade expectations – but the late evening growth suggests that the word-of-mouth is positive and the film has plenty of potential to show growth on Saturday and Sunday.
On Day 2, Housefull 3 has started on a positive note. It’ll be evening onwards that’ll hold the key yet again, as multiplex business peaks on Saturday night. Sunday will be equally important as the family audience (who made the first two Housefull films a hit) are likely to come out in big numbers to watch the film.
While Akshay Kumar has yet again failed to give a ‘excellent’ opening that matches expectations, an opening that would ensure safety on the opening day itself – more so with the added advantage of a popular franchise and favourable Post IPL release – it’ll yet again be the content that has to carry the film to safety.
IndicineFBO: We expected Housefull 3 to collect Rs 17.4 crore on Day 1 at the box office, a number that was expected out of the film given the fact that it was one of the year’s biggest releases (3700 screens). The film has collected Rs 15.21 crore. The difference between our prediction and the actual collection is 12% (15% is the limit), making it a ‘accurate’ prediction – even though we expect the difference to be less than 10% for big films.

@Moviefan77, first of all, it’s we who get to decide the range of accuracy and it’s pre-defined right from January 2015. You are free to have your opinion. Secondly, the range is there because word-of-mouth cannot be predicted. Business can grow by 10-15% in the evening if the film is good or go down if its not liked.
Nobody talks that this is 6th release of akshay in last 18 months…other stars have one in this time frame..and that too on holidays…Akshay has set style of working which suits him and he has every reason to do that…His films will never be record openers as he does too many films and of every genre…and release on normal days…his films will always be in range of 125 cr if they clicks…and as a akki fan i would rathaer have 3 100 cr frossers than one 250 cr film…

Last year when all Akki films underperform (means none of them crossed 100cr mark) all his fans were humble to every other actors but suddenly after the Airlift success they show their true color and start bashing other actor and calming that Akki is the Biggest Actor (which is not even close to reality), but now they realize the Akki’s true place…..My advice to Akki fan don’t defame other actors because your star is no where close to Khans and even Hrithik and Ajay is ahead of him….

15.21 is very good for this movie. Today will be 17 crores and tomorrow 20 crores. Weekend will be around 53 crores and Housefull3 will cross 100 crore and will Fan easily.

Indicine actually the collection is coz of akshay kumar star power as the buzz for the movie was literally nil.i mean people didnt even knew whether the movie is releasing…the trailer never wxcited and the promos were dull also songs were not catchy as well..plus there is a lot negativity around such movies and i do beleive housefull is not as big a franchise like other movies franchise ranking according to me..

@Himanshu, yes, we always want our predictions to be as close to the actuals as possible. But there are hundreds of factors, including producer numbers (unpredictable) which we have to take into consideration. Even though the promos did not work, we were pretty confident Housefull 3 would open around 20% higher than Welcome Back at the very least. Wasn’t the case unfortunately.
More than getting these predictions accurate, our goal is to give our readers a realistic expectation on what to expect on Day 1 and lifetime (LBO). Otherwise, a lot of unrealistically high numbers are quoted on the internet.
Those wanting big initials from Akshay Kumar, film need to get one simple point that he is the only actor/star who releases 3-4 films in a year & still manages above 12cr. on a consistent basis is something remarkable feat.
