Happy New Year was steady on its second day at multiplexes, but single-screens at some mass-centres have witnessed bigger drops. The All-India fall though was normal for a Saturday, after a record-breaking holiday opening.
The Shahrukh Khan starrer continued to do well in circuits like Mumbai and East Punjab. Delhi/UP was strong, but trade sources says business could have been affected by communal riots. Centres like C.I and C.P Berar dropped on Day 2, West Bengal and Mysore were strong. Tamil and Telugu versions have fallen, but the Hindi version in Tamilnadu/Kerala and Andhra/Nizam is performing well.
Happy New Year has now collected around 81 crore in 2 days and should comfortably get to somewhere around 115-120 crore, giving the film the highest first weekend in the history of Indian Cinema – ahead of Dhoom 3’s weekend collections of 107.61 cr.
- Friday – 44.97 crore
- Saturday – 36-37 crore (approx)
- Total – 81-82 crore

@Uttam Kumar, we have adjusted collections to match official figures. Most centres have dropped by 20% or more. But lets see, these are just estimates based on collections from few theatres from various parts of India.

OK it’s all your day…congratulation but the way people are talking against Hrithik, it seems he never broke any record. Hello!! he started his career with record breaking movie KNPH. So are you going to teach Hrithik how to do it, who broke records during KNPH, KMG, Dhoom 3 etc.?? how far do you know of his future? what if “Mohenjo Daro” earns 100 crores in just two days?? try to control your emotion and keep looking where this movie is heading to. Any huge drop will can ruin your party so don’t start becoming overconfident. It is the same SRK whose Peheli, Phir bhi dil hai hindustani, Gaza Gamini, One Two Ka four, Ra.One experienced huge flop in last 14 years. His Swades, Devdas, Don 2, Jab Tak Hai jaan also performed average at the box office. Don’t forget that. Anything can happen.
Hrithik has already signed a movie for which he took 50 crore. I hope you understand the meaning of taking 50 crore for a movie which is going to release just over one year from now. Keep some emotion to showcase till then!! Good Day!!

Our king has lost his overseas crown last yr to Aamir n this yr he will fall behind our Greek Cinema God too… Overseas audiences like myself were not fooled by the Remake of Remakes- The Antique Washing Machine- we knew Teesra Khan Farah is in stiff competition with her humshakal Sajid n joker hubby Kunder as to whom can make the crappiest film ever- Sajid leads the race but Farahs not far behind with this latest offering of hers.
So, the collection is still humongous!! Weekend business will be around 117 Crores! Congrats to the whole team of HNY comprising six lead actors and two villains, Gauri Khan and AbRam Khan! I still dislike sarook because of his crook personality!
The real test for the film will begin on Monday!! It will decide the fate of 150 Crores-budgeted film!

Im watching the movie tomorrow- My friends on Indicine- do you think I should carry not just a spare set of ear plugs but a whole pack and is an extra pack of paracetamol suffice or will one pack of extra strong Anadin be enough to get me through 3 hrs of hamming…? Only friends may answer this as I know my foes will say “dont worry Navin- you should leave your car at home n make sure you get front row seats as to fully enjoy Kings melidious hamming’ but you dont fool me… For the record I will sit near the Fire Escape Doors in order to ensure a quick getaway should the overacting start to irritate…!

The atrocities and absurdities of Bollywood: 2009 was last great year of Bollywood when a truely awsome movie was an ATBB. I still have hope for 2014 christmas. Then the whole equation is turn upside down by utter crap like HNY. String together 6-7 hollywood capers with an ensemble cast and you get your bheja fried. The last time I was so nauseous was when I saw the intolerable RA1. However then I had the luxury of leaving post interval.
This time was tortured for 3 hours
Word to wise do not carpool to a Hindu movie and if you do do not go to a cinema that prevents you from going to another movie
The fact that movie is an unprecedented success leads me to believe there is some bizarre phenomenon going on in India
