Gabbar Is Back has opened well at the box office, even though the occupancy should have been higher since today is a holiday in most parts of the country. Single-screens have taken the best opening of 2015, but the occupancy at multiplexes was lower than Roy, Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The Akshay Kumar starrer is competing with big regional releases today. Kamal Haasan’s ‘Uttama Villain’ has released in the South and Marathi film ‘Time Pass 2’ has taken a record breaking start in Maharastra – where the occupancy is significantly higher than ‘Gabbar Is Back’.
Compared to Akshay Kumar films, Gabbar Is Back is easily his best opening in a long time. The movie has taken a better start than Baby, Holiday, Entertainment and Boss — but that could also be because of the holiday factor.
Overall, the opening suggests that the film should collect around 12.5 – 13 crore on its opening day, but if the film picks up towards the end of the day, then it could get closer to the 14-15 crore mark.

@Hrithik (street tomboy), Yes, manipulated K3 released 3900screen, tickets price hike, blockbuster sequal and rakesh roshan director but opening day struggle to cross 16cr. Bong bong released 3800screen with kat and big budget but struggle to cross lifetime collection of SR.

@diwala deciding release date and casting actress is all producer’s choice. you can’t blame akshay for this. And generally producer doesn’t caste big heroins coz he know Akshay is enough for bringing audience to theatre every 3-4 months.

Hey,we are also real indians only waiting for akshay movies.the people who watched filims only in festivels waiting for khans movie.because these days khans are come on festivals.if any other star come that period,that people also paid for theirs movies.its not about fan base,it is the habit of indian people.they want to enjoy every moment in festivels.krish3,tmk,blue etc are the non khan movies that create history at boxoffice in festivals.
How can anyone get a festive release dates when all the 3 khans have booked that in advance upto 2 years??
And btw,130crs is not bad at all considering non festive release..remember srk could’nt collect that much with Jthj,raone,don2.
@syed : srk is the most coward actor in bollywood. He never release his film on non-holiday. His last two films were with deepika, while akki give chance to new commer. Srk is nothing without holiday, top actress, top director. Shame on srk

The fact is that even his producers know that he will stand nowhere in a clash with srk salman and hro..
He is undoubtedly a big star but not as big as he was earlier and not at all in comparison to khans and hro..
@dilwala you forgot clash b/w CE and OUATIMD. Despite of release just 6 days after super successfull CE , OUATIMD opens with ideal 100% occupancy everywhere and its collection was low just due to low screen count and bad content.
