Films are not made for box office records: Kabir Khan

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ has become one of the biggest blockbusters of the decade, but director Kabir Khan says that films are not made with the intention of breaking box office records, as that restricts the creativity of filmmakers.

When asked if he expects ‘Phantom’ to be as big a success as ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Khan said “All wish that they earn good collections at the box office but we don’t make films with the sole intention of numbers.”

“A film should be successful according to its budget. And if you feel that every film should touch a certain number, then we’ll make the same kind of films, which I didn’t want. As a director, I want to make different kinds of films. All films should be successful, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was successful and I want that ‘Phantom’ is also a similar success.”

The action thriller starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead, releases in theatres on August 28.

  • Well said, but if he said “Films are made for critics”, I would give him 5 stars. But he did not, so 3.5/5 rating for his statement.

  • biggest lie of bollywood .
every actor whether it’s salman/srk/aamir/hr/akki all say they don’t about box office .but actually they all think only for money first nothing else .
they are in the film line cause it’s giving them money .
also kabir is also in this occupation cause he also want to earn money .actually we all work for money.
so no need to say this kind of statement . cause we view are not as fool as you think us .

  • May be not the records but money does matter a lot..public appreciation and box office numbers go hand in hand for films like Bajrangi bhaijaan

  • Watched bajrangi bhaijaan. 5/5 stars.
salman rocks big time. I have added one more ‘s’ in my name in honour of salman. I will remove 2 ‘s’ from my name if Dilwale fails.

  • So why do you make films if not for BO number, Kabirji? You had better documentaries rather than movies if what you say is true.
Everyone cares about BO more than anything else.
And All the Best to Phantom!

  • Correction- opening line should have been:-

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan is one of the Biggest Blockbusters off all time…!’

  • lets see quality of phantom…
if its gud then i.will say he is in top 2 along with hirani…
challange will be attract audience with saif… who doesnt hav stardom of salman…to catch eyeballs…

  • It is actually agent vonod 2…How people can bear Saif for two hours doing such crapy films. Bajrangi was having Salman the super star..even wood faced katrina can not save PHANTOM from being disaster

  • My fav kabir khan movies
    1- bajrangi bhaijaan
    2-new york
    3-kabul express
    4-ek tha tiger
And I’m sure phantom will be good too

  • if was salman khan in phantom will be shure shot blockbuste but i wish phantom will be hit only because kabir khan he is in top 2 along with hirani

  • Well Mr kabir,in modern times yes it’s Quintessential!!! Few movies don’t care about collections yes I agree esp if d makers want to pass a message or experiment on something he finds fascinating. But come on of course they would welcome d inflow of cash if it comes. Ghar aiyi laxmi ko nehi….(pls som1 complete it for me,my hindi….?).
Apart from some Talaash Mnik drishyam special26, an average film maker working with an A list actor is really thinkin of box office collection! Kabir is a smart guy. Of course he knows even a simple story content starring Salman is never a dull moment$$$?

  • Kabir cur the crap everyone makes film to earn handsome profits. and the box office record is dream of every director and actor. So u better stop talking sh**t.
BTW I’m eagerly waiting for Phanthom as i loved your last outing Bajaragi Bhaijaan.

  • i never comment on indicine artical bcoz they hidden my comment on artical ……..
MY english is week and they wont write any comment in hindi

    GOOD BY INDICINE

  • On BB promotion he talked about how Sajid told him “300 pakka”, but now he says BO don’t matter. Maybe he feel like Phantom will flop himself

  • phantom will not be huge hit but i am 1000% sure it will push all akshay films behind this year
Saif is more popular than joker boy
