Dishoom was excellent in its first weekend at the domestic box office. The opening of the film was above pre-release expectations, the growth on Saturday was limited, but the film managed to record excellent collections on Sunday – taking the net box office collections to Rs 37.32 crore in 3 days.
The entire weekend was affected by heavy rains across states like Maharastra, Gujarat, Delhi/UP, Karnataka, Bihar and a few others. Business was also affected in the Mysore circuit on Saturday due to Karnataka bandh. Theatres in most parts of the state, including Bangalore, were shut on Saturday. There was also a Punjabi film that was the first choice in the East Punjab circuit.
The film probably lost around 5-10% of its business due to rains and other factors, without which the first weekend business would’ve crossed the 40 crore mark.
It was clearly Varun Dhawan’s star power and fan-following amongst the youth that was driving the film in its first weekend. In comparison, the lifetime business of John Abraham’s action film ‘Rocky Handsome’ was Rs 23 crore net, even though it had two holidays in its first weekend.
Opening wise, no Varun Dhawan film has disappointed so far. Dishoom was expected to be tricky, but even with the odds stacked against it, the film has performed very well in its first weekend.
The next few days will decide the box office fate of the film. Monday will be crucial. A total of more than 5.5 crore will be considered excellent. 4.5 – 5 crore will be good. Anything less than 4 crore will mean the film will struggle to recover costs.

Big lol…3000 screen 11cr and do u think its big opening and what a shame that u are giving all credit to Varun. Don’t forget John, Jacky was also in the movie. Tiger alone gave better opening with even less screens and Remember ABCD 2 was the sequel which gave Varun big opening.

Trending similarly to Baaghi and Housefull 3. Both movies made just over 2 times their openings, so I think Dishoom is set for 75-80cr total. 7th straight success for Varun.

look at the collection of fan,less than akahays last 6 filims,5 of them relised on non holiday.
airlift collection with an another 8 crore opening filim,not a masala filim,still it collect 50 crore more than content rich billu.
dishoom had every thing,3 well known actors,good trailor,hot heroine,bikni scene of nargis,akshys cameo,how can yo compare dishoom with an of beat filim airlift.
compare don 2 with 3 idiots,because both were relised on2010 and 2009 respectivly,don 2 collect only half of 3 idiots,that is srk stardom.
