‘Dhamaal is a big hit’ – Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt’s last release Dhamaal has done well at the box office. The audience as well as the critics have appreciated the movie.

Here Sanju talks about the recently released Dhamaal, a sequel to Dhamaal, Shahrukh Khan and more.

Is Dhamaal so close to you that you are promoting the film even after its release?

Sanjay Dutt : Yes, this film is very close to my heart. I know Indra Kumar and (producer) Ashok Thakeria for many years. They both have been planning to do something with me for so many years, but we were not successful. Eventually, this film has turned out to be pretty good and I think it’s a big hit.

Did you try to gauge the reaction to the film?
Sanjay Dutt : Yes, the film’s collections are superb. I had this intuition that this film will be a hit, as it’s a fun film.

Should its success be attributed to Sanjay Dutt?

Sanjay Dutt : No, it’s not only Sanjay Dutt. It’s an effort from Indra Kumar, Ashok, Arshad, Aashish, Jaaved and Riteish. It’s everybody’s effort.

As far as I am concerned, the role is very good. I was very excited about it.

Okay, tell me one thing. Did you miss the heroine in the film? (Laughs)

Yes, I did.

Sanjay Dutt : (Laughs) I missed the heroine too! But all said and done, it’s a great film. I don’t think anybody felt that there was no heroine in the film. It’s such a beautiful film.

Everybody in the film is behind money. How important is money to you?

Sanjay Dutt : Money is very important for an individual. Because everyone runs after money in the film, they have several quarrels too.

There are so many actors in the film. Any particular role you liked apart from yours?

Sanjay Dutt : I think every artist fits in his slot, everyone has worked to perfection and have done justice to their role. My favourite sequence in the film is about the plane. It’s fantastic.

When you went for the premiere of the film, you were dressed in a jacket and kurta. Everyone present thought that Duttsaab had come. Any plan of entering politics?

Sanjay Dutt : No, no. I am not joining politics. Actually, my sister Priya gave me the clothes. And what you said is true. She was busy in the temple when she caught a glimpse of me. She too thought that she had seen dad. As far as me joining politics, I think one in the family is enough. (Laughs)

Judging by the way you take up comedy films, it seems you are biased towards such subjects…

Sanjay Dutt : Everything depends upon the script. If the script is good, I am game for it. I guess with the consent of Indra Kumar, we will soon make Dhamaal 2.

Tell us the secret behind your new look.

Sanjay Dutt : I got fed up with my hair. When I grew a beard, my family said I resembled an anda (egg).

Will we get to see this new look in any of your films?

Sanjay Dutt : Does it looks good? I will think over it.

Tell us about the book, which is based on your parents.

Sanjay Dutt : The book is in the making right now and it’s about mom and dad. I think it will be released in October. It’s a coffee table book with lots of photographs. It’s turning out to be beautiful. It’s a compilation of beautiful moments and beautiful things, which happened in their life.

Don’t you think your present look will interfere with the shooting of your films?

Sanjay Dutt : Right now, I’m not shooting.

When do you plan to resume your shooting?

Sanjay Dutt : Only after I grow my hair (laughs).

At the premiere of Dhamaal, some people said they want to be like Munnabhai while some want to be like Sanjubaba. What do you suggest?

Sanjay Dutt : It’s a difficult question. I would only like to say that one should follow the dictates of one’s heart. The important thing is to become a good individual.

When will we get to see Dus Kahaniya and Kidnap?

Sanjay Dutt : Dus Kahaniya is ready for release. As for Kidnap, some 30 days of shooting still remains.

Which actor do you think has the best physique, now that Shah Rukh Khan has developed his six packs?

Sanjay Dutt : Yeah, Shah Rukh has developed a well-built body these days. Salman, of course, has a great physique. The younger lot is very health conscious.
