With Delhi 6, Rakesh Mehra brings together Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor, son and daughter of two Bollywood superstars (Amitabh and Anil Kapoor) of the 80s. Mehra’s last film, Rang De Basanti was critically acclaimed, raked in the moolah at the box-office and swept most awards. Undoubtedly the expectations are high, does Delhi 6 live upto it?
Delhi 6 is about Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) a half-hindu half-muslim boy from US of Indian origin. He comes to India with his grandmother (Waheeda Rehman), who wishes to spend the last days of her life in her hometown. Roshan is amazed by the love, warmth and the sheer madness of the area. Soon he meets Bittu (Sonam Kapoor), who dreams of making it big at the Indian Idol and is quite desperate not to marry the guy her father chooses for her. What happens next forms the rest of the Delhi 6 tale!
Delhi 6 Review
10 things that didnt work in Delhi 6
- The pace of the film is too slow. The first hour is a complete drag, it picks up slightly post interval but the last 20 – 30 mins is a let down.
- The film lacks sense! There is something called Kaala Bandar in the area, which Abhishek explains (to the people) was seen, yet invisible! How can anything be seen, yet be invisible?
- The film reminds you of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades and Madhuri Dixit’s Aaja Nachle at times
- There is so much happening in the film and in the locality, add to it the many characters and stories that Mehra has squeezed into Delhi 6, it gets highly monotonous to sit through. You dont really know, what to see, where to see, what to understand or what to take out of the film!
- Sonam Kapoor has limited screen-time. It takes about quarter of an hour, for the most relatable character in the film, to actually mouth her first dialogue.
- The film ends up being too preachy.
- Without revealing much, the typical happy-happy ending actually works against the film. Not to mention the over dramatic scenes involving Abhishek during the climax.
- Abhishek Bachchan’s performance was disappointing to say the least.
- The cinematography was below average
- The whole lovemaking scene involving Cyrus Sahukar. Pathetic! Was that meant to be funny Mr Mehra?
The 3 saving graces of Delhi 6
- Sonam Kapoor – Brilliant as Bittu
- The character actors – did a fantastic job. Especially Vijay Raaz and Pawan Malhotra. Aditi Rao, Sonam’s aunt in the film, deserves a special mention – great screen presence.
- The music – A.R. Rehman rocks!
Overall, Delhi 6 is one of the biggest disappointments of the year. A ludicrous film that’s not worth the price of your ticket.

I just want to say one more thing to you and that is by again and agiain responding to this spiderman and trying to convince him that I’m not someone else, you’re just giving him what he wants and thats a fight. Can’t you see he want to get you all worked up just like raj, its the same pattern, we were just going about our comments quietly so what if we got off topic a bit, no harm done or anything delhi 6 so was trashy not like anybody else seemed to care and yeah if people don’t want to read they don’t have to so what. It’s so obvious spiderman is raj, and he just won’t shut up and needs any excuse to start trouble so please don’t respond to him anymore, I don’t have anything else left to respond in this section, I’m waiting for some good movies to come out so I can post some comments there.

I know that spiderman is Raj.. but what I feel is that Raj & Punjabi Sher are (one person), they both used to attack me the same way.. they both used to disappear for a while and then come back in the same time! so I’m sure that Punjabi Sher & Raj are one person.

This spiderman’s motive was to dig up old bones from the past and start a fight between you and me. Losers like them need to fight and start trouble in order to make their life a bit more interesting. Just look at him he doesn’t even have the guts to go out into the street and pick a real fight like the way a street dog should. All this hijra can do is sit on the net and try to cause problems. Heaven on Earth isn’t released yet, neither in our cinemas nor on dvds.. I’m only waiting for it to come.

Yeah I have seen all those movies before. Deepa mehta does make good movies. The most daring one she made was Kama Sutra. Woh, its really revealing and all but it was a really sad love story that got to me. Have you also seen her Bollywood Hollywood, it was good comedy movie as well. Yeah I couldnt find the dvd of heaven on earth as well, I thought I’ve been hearing about the movie for a long time so actually I’m not sure when it got released or it didn’t but I watch it online, so maybe you might want to do that.
Hi Kiran: I heard about Kama Sutra, but didn’t see it and didn’t know it’s Deepa Mehta’s movie, you didn’t tell me if you saw “Earth”, I’m trying to find it in the stores as I don’t like to watch any full movie online, sometimes I do watch a movie if I have a doubt that the movie is good, so I start watching one or two parts, if I liked it then I’d rent it or buy a copy, or see it in cinema, if it’s a new release.

Yes I did see earth, and that’s so strange its not a new movie so you should be able to get it on dvd. I’ve even seen it on tv they have shown it before. Really I didn’t know 13B was a horror movie, I haven’t looked into the story line of this movie at all. Yeah I understand watching a movie online can be a pain and all, but I just couldn’t wait to see heaven on earth so I just went ahead and saw it. But yeah give kama sutra a try, I just really like the setting of the movie, and the story of it. When nothing else works you can even order a movie from the internet so give it a try. hope it helps.
Kiran: it’s a ban movie which I won’t be able to get in our country, I’ll try to watch some parts online. Did you see Bandit Queen? Based on a true story and a very good movie although there’re some nudity, the actress was fully naked in a scene and there’re some scenes which you won’t like to watch, but the direction and the script are good, it’s a worth watching movie, if you didn’t, you’ve to see it.

Yeah I did see bandit queen, it was such a shocking movie. Some movies just really shock the hell out of you, and never want to see them again. Yeah but overall the direction was a good and just the thougtht that really happened to somone is like unimaginable.

You know what I almost feeling like laughing and I’m smiling to myself right now. I think this raj is on some kind of drugs or something. His last several posts were under the name spiderman, and all of sudden he’s saying he’s won!!! HAHAHA! He doesn’t know he has openly admitted that he is spiderman. Duh!! As if I didn’t know it all along. If you read his last post carefully he says he knows about everthing that has been happening here and he specifially also said that he know’s raj called us names something like losers and stuff, then spiderman aka raj comes back and says “who is raj”. First he admitted he read raj’s posts then he says who is raj?? I think he has become so desperate to get to us that he has lost track of what all he is saying.

No good movies these days that we watch and then we discuss.. I’ve been watching some old movies these days and I watched online 13B.. but no.. it’s also a copy of The Ring, Mirrors, not that good.. some ghosts trying to showup thru a t.v. series!! we’ve had enough of these crap movies. The best latest horror was 1920 & Phoonk wasn’t bad, I loved Shahrukh’s home production “Kaal” which was released some years ago.

I got the dvd’s for 13b and gulaal but haven’t gotten around to watching them yet. And speaking of the devil, you were talking about earth 1947 not too long ago, well guess what where I live its actually coming on tv tonight, so I guess I will watch that again. Its not too often that it comes on though. As for Kaal, sharukh was only in it for one song, otherwise it wasn’t his movie, but I didn’t like it much. I know there aren’t any good movies releasing lately that are worth watching, what to do have to make do with old ones I guess. I don’t know why but I’ve been listening to one of the songs over and over again from sharukh’s chalte chalte, the movie was alright but not the best, but the songs were nice.
Hi Kiran: Chalte Chalte wasn’t a bad movie, I loved the songs too but I didn’t like the last scene.. airport scene, both Shahrukh & Rani’s acting wasn’t that good.. I watched 2 days ago Slumdog Millionaire again in cinema.. such a nice movie and the songs: Ringa Ringa & Jay Ho are so good.. A.R. Rahman’s music is amazing.
Did u see a movie for Nandita Das called: Before the Rain? It’s a good one, about a housemaid in Kerela who’s married and unhappy, who falls in love with a British married man.. a new script and a good direction.
When I saw the movie “Kaal” for first time in cinema, I didn’t like it much, but when I saw it again on a dvd.. I found it quite a good thriller movie.. yes Shahrukh is only in the 1st song, this movie is both Karan Johar & Shahrukh’s production.. but I loved Ajay Devgan’s role as a ghost who showedup in an animal skin, a lion.. watch it again and you might like it for 2nd time. I saw it 3 times so far.

Yeah chalte chalte was alright. I have watched kaal many times before on tv, and I think its okay for time pass but nothing great. And no I haven’t heard anything of nandita das’s movie. I haven’t seen much of her movies excpet fire, earth 1947, and bawandar, I don’t know if you saw that movie or not. I have seen slumdog millionaire and yes ringa ringa is my favorite, and I don’t know why I’ve been listening to pyar humko bhi hai from chalte chalte, but its such a sweet song, don’t you think. I always seem to go through phases where I like fast numbers, and then I like sweet sad numbers. I know this isn’t the music section but what are some of your all time favorites??

There’re many indian songs which I like, every good movie must have one or 2 good songs, I love slow and also some fast tracks: the song u mentioned from Chalte Chalte isn’t bad but there’re many which are better than this one. Oh boy that’s alot of them alright, I know I have tons of songs I really like too. As for what gul means, I believe it means that flower buds of a flower, more or less it means flowers or has to do with it. I know I have persian friends and alot of persian words and even food resemble indian words and food as well.
As for this Raj, its so funny that comment he wrote about us being sluts, got erased. I don’t know what happened. Did you report it or something?? About me.. I understand indian language more than speaking.. I can speak but i’m not fluent.. yes I can say: jao.. Eise mat karo, dhoor jao, beto, kana kaw.. some setences, but while watching any hindi movie, I can understand 80% of the language without reading the subtitle.
What’s makes it easy for us to learn hindi coz there’re hundreds of hindi words which resembles persian.. they are the same words with the same meaning e.g. : Dil, Jigar, Hawa, door, Darwaza, dard, qasam, Peisa, Jannat, kismat, bakht, ishq, saal, and some are simillar with slight difference e.g. the word: Zamin.. in persian we say: zeming..Asuma.. we say: Aasmong: Khaab.. we say (Khoaw) Nazdik.. we say (nazik) Ghulam.. we say (Ghuloom) Qayamat.. we say ( Qeyaamah)
And some words which we both use but with different meanings e.g. Manzil in hindi means target I assume, but in persian means (house)
There’re hundreds of words therefore it’s not difficult for us to learn but it’s difficult for Arab people to learn both Hindi and Persian languages coz Arabic language is completely different.

Yeah I know there are alot of persian words that resemble hindi words. Manzil means destination you almost had it right. Persian sounds like a very nice lanuguage though very sweet. Actually I didn’t know that persian people watched so many indian movies.

Anyways, People if you are not finding any good movies to watch… Then go grab the DVD of Gulaal and watch it. This is a non-commercial art movie and WOW what a performance. Incredible and must watch. Not all people will like it but give it a chance and you may get a pleasant surprise. I loved this movie.
I also watched 13B but again a disappointment in terms of horror movie. I would rather put in thriller category. Again nice acting by Madhavan. Surely you can and should watch it once ONLINE. That is all 13B deserves.
