Dear Zindagi Week 1 Box Office Collections

Dear Zindagi has completed its first week with net box office collections of Rs 47 crore. The trend is decent, but certainly not excellent, which means the second weekend is crucial if the film has to recover costs for distributors.

‘Kahaani 2’ has taken a slow start in the morning on Friday, so the kind of response that the film gets over the weekend, could decide what sort of total ‘Dear Zindagi’ ends up with. If ‘Kahaani 2’ doesn’t find appreciation, ‘Dear Zindagi’ might continue to be the first choice and this might help the film cross the 60 crore mark.

The film is heading towards ‘Semi-Hit’ status, but the perception has already been created that ‘Dear Zindagi’ is a box office success. It has worked with a section of the audience, especially girls who have come out in bigger numbers to watch the film.

It’s Alia Bhatt’s third success of the year after ‘Kapoor & Sons’ (her biggest and possibly only ‘clean hit’), followed by Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. In fact, her last film of the year has shown exactly the same trend as her second film (Udta Punjab). Both will finish with similar lifetime totals, with ‘Dear Zindagi’ being the more profitable film for the producers.

It’s a positive for Shah Rukh Khan too as his performance in the film has been liked. It won’t make any difference to the box office prospects of ‘Raees’ because failures like ‘Fan’ or even the underperformance of ‘Dilwale’ never really affect the fan-following of established superstars. His presence has certainly helped ‘Dear Zindagi’ collect more than it otherwise would, but the price that the film was sold was also on the higher side because of SRK.
