‘Dear Zindagi’ director Gauri Shinde rubbished reports that her recently-released film had strong similarities with Canadian TV series ‘Being Erica’. The filmmaker said she hadn’t seen the series and cannot comment on it.
“Dear Zindagi is a deeply personal film. There is only one thing it borrows from. That’s my life. There are a million films and serials with therapists like these are with doctors. Just because there is a doctor in a film does not mean it borrows from another film with a doctor.
“I’m deeply disturbed by irresponsible comments from people who have no clue what it is that they are referring to.. I have not seen this series that they refer to and I cannot comment on what is in it”
“In today’s world where everybody sees everything, I am not so dumb that I believe I can get away by deliberate plagiarism nor am I so insensitive to borrow without giving credit from anybody who has created anything for such a sensitive and important cause”.
Starring Alia Bhatt in the lead, ‘Dear Zindagi’ was Gauri Shinde’s second directorial venture. While the film hasn’t exactly received the ‘overwhelmingly positive’ response that her first film ‘English Vinglish’ got, ‘Dear Zindagi’ has collected Rs 65 crore at the domestic box office. The film also featured Shah Rukh Khan.

Shirisk Kunder also said same thing after exposed by Nepali film maker for his short film ….Gauri mam, There is a huge difference b/w resembles 1 or 2 scenes and entire concept.

I don’t understand when u say it hasn’t received positive reviews. Man come on. I watched it this week in bangalore. It had more people watching it than befikre or kahani 2. And it’s god damn 3 weekend now. What else should it do.
It is one of those feel good films, which are seldom made in our Hindi film industry… Enchanting !

The whole world knows how much Bollywood blatantly copies western pop culture literary and performing arts both. If Canadians have sued you, there must be valid reasons. Instead of accepting the fact that you were “directly inspired” from Canadian TV series BEING ERICA, you are blatantly denying it.
When Bollywood makes original films like LAGAAN and DDLJ, they get worldwide recognition and academy award nominations. So, there is a flip side to the coin after all. Accept that you plagerized or keep living in denial and loose your dignity and sanity.

This is known as honesty & responsibility towards Bollywood and the whole Hindi cinema bcz of which i m really proud of u mam!I know ur very particular abt these little things & u wanna clarify them all but i m sorry bcz i can’t say the same thing abt others who always steal & copy from various Hollywood franchises like the X men series to ruin it will some c grade remakes without any copyrights.Such cheapness is nothing new from their side!If u don’t believe my words then i will definitely show u an upcoming C grade Korean movie releasing this Republic Day with some goofy over the top blind stunts.I m sure u will not believe ur eyes but thats the reality mam.

That sums it up. Let us not even talk about the promotions and other factors that were higher and more in DZ compared to EV. Still EV and Sri rocked.

Dear zindagi is one of the best movie of the year for me. This movie has 80% similarities with me.
It will be wrong that to called a movie copied. I saw movie last week and it is very similar to my life . That doesnot mean makers has taken story from my life. So, it is coincidence to have similar plot with Canadian tv series.
