Dabangg 2 Movie Review

The last release of the year, Dabangg 2 starring Salman Khan as the iconic Chulbul ‘Robinhood’ Pandey. The makers have retained almost all the characters from the original – Sonakshi Sinha plays Rajo, Arbaaz Khan is Makkhi, Vinod Khanna is Chulbul’s father Prajapati Pandey. Popular side characters like Cheddhi Singh and the baddie who’s mobile rings at the wrong time, is also a part of the sequel.

The new additions are Prakash Raj who plays the villain, Deepak Dobriyal and a few others. Malaika Arora Khan returns as Munni, while Kareena Kapoor has a sexy item song titled ‘Fevicol Se’.

So.. is Dabangg 2 double the fun? Is it better than the original? Let’s find out!
Dabangg 2

Dabangg 2 Review

For a country that unites to celebrate the super-stardom of Salman Khan, reviewing a film like Dabangg 2 is futile. In the last couple of years, an average of two Salman movies have released every year. While critics have thrashed almost all his films, people across the country have flocked to theatres to watch the film first-day-first-show.

With his fan-following and craze at it’s absolute peak, Salman Khan today is beyond the script, director, banner and the film itself.

Dabangg 2 has a wafer-thin plot, too many songs and an overdose of action. Two scenes of Chulbul Pandey’s antics is following by an action sequence and a song – this is repeated in the same order throughout the film. The screenplay and the story has been written to accomodate all the masala ingredients. Arbaaz Khan, who makes his directorial debut, retains every element that made Dabangg a super-success.

Despite all it’s flaws and outdated done-to-death storyline, what makes Dabangg 2 entertaining is Salman Khan. With his unique style of dialogue delivery and larger-than-life presence, Khan is at his charismatic best as Chulbul Pandey. His post-marriage romantic scenes with Sonakshi Sinha are well-executed.

For me, the biggest disappointment was Prakash Raj. He has limited screen time and his character doesn’t really give him enough scope to showcase his acting talent. Another talented actor Deepak Dobriyal is wasted too. The other actors, whether it is Arbaaz Khan, Sonakshi Sinha or Vinod Khanna, all get relegated to the back seat. Mahie Gill has a two minute role.

The music is good – Dagabaaz Re, Dabangg Reloaded and Pandeyji Seeti are chartbusters. Watching the film on a single screen is an experience in itself, as the entire theatre went bonkers for Kareena Kapoor’s Fevicol Se item number! The well-executed action sequences will work big time with the masses.

Overall, Dabangg 2 is Salman Khan’s show all the way. A Christmas treat to his die-hard fans. The rest.. if you loved the first film, you’ll enjoy watching the sequel. At the box office, the film has already opened to a great response. The occupancy is high, despite the fact that the film released on a record number of screens.

Rating: ★★★½☆ Sure shot Blockbuster

  • What a excellent movie full too dhamal entertaindr best masala movie.i will go tomorrow again guys if you miss this then you miss best masala movie.

  • Dabangg 2 Review: Script Analysis
If you’re looking for something new in Dabangg 2, you will be disappointed. Dileep Shukla’s script and screenplay is very similar to Dabangg; while this is amusing in some parts, it looks lazy in others. The jokes, action, dialogues seem like fall-outs from the old script. With Chulbul’s mother out of the picture, his bonding with his father and brother stick out like a sore thumb. Makkhi missing his wife also seems half-baked. Even Bachcha’s late revenge is something the writer alone can explain.

That said, the gags and jokes do entertain especially thanks to his jovial deputies. His one-liners are enjoyable. Even his romance with Rajjo is well-done and cute.

    Dabangg 2 Review: Star Performances
Salman Khan aka Kung Fu Pandey, is lovely as the maverick cop. He is very good in the action and comedy scenes, but when it comes to emotions (that one godforsaken scene where he has to cry), Pandeyji gets a demotion. Sonakshi Sinha does aptly as Rajjo though she spends an oddly large amount of time drying clothes. Arbaaz Khan reprises his role as the village idiot with a few scenes as Makkhi. Vinod Khanna is absolutely wonderful as the worried patriarch Prajapati. His conversations with the unknown lover and reminiscing about his late wife are excellent.

Sadly, Prakash Raj is not at the top of his game as Bachcha Lal; his menacing side comes out only towards the climax, and even that is not enough. Deepak Dobriyal gets very little space as Gainda, but he’s a darn good baddie. Mahie Gill has a blink-and-miss appearance. Kareena Kapoor is super sexy in the item song, with our Munni Malaika Arora Khan added for the extra-drool factor.

Dabangg 2 Review: Direction, Music & Editing
This is a wonderful debut as director for Arbaaz Khan. The movie is too reminiscent of Dabanng and so is the directorial style with a serious Abhinav Kashyap hangover. Sandeep Shirodkar’s background music is good. ‘ANAL’ Arsu’s action – though a repetition of the rippling muscles, slo-mo punches and kicks – is grand. Aseem Mishra’s cinematography is sharp. Hemal Kothari’s editing is alright. Sajid-Wajid’s songs are good (again, very similar to Dabangg, with the scenarios being almost the same).

There are endless tributes to Salman itself in the movie with the Ready ringtone, same old dance moves etc. As if the movie isn’t making enough money, you have really annoying product placements with mobiles, digestive tablets, money transfer services… all making special appearances that make you feel bad for Munni. The green screen backdrops are too obvious. The climax, with Salman’s bare-chested fight, is a treat (though his shirt coming off is not as dramatic).

Dabangg 2 Review: The Last Word
Dabangg 2 is like the poorer clone of its precursor, but it’s enjoyable with the action, Kung Fu Pandey, dollops of romance, songs and the rib-tickling comedy.

  • Dabangg 2 Slows At Multiplexes In Evening

    Friday 21st December 2012 10.30 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Dabangg 2 which raced out of the traps in the morning slowed in the afternoon and evening period as many multiplex shows had lower occupancies than the morning. This was always the likely scenario as its not a holiday but at some places it slowed considerably. This could also be due to exceessive shows. The North was hit hard with evening occupancies down a lot due to the cold weather which is a norm for this time of the year.

The morning shows suggested a 25 crore nett total was on the cards but looking at it in the evening and late evening shows the all India collections could come in around the 18-19 crore nett range which is still huge but the film has been let down slightly by the multiplex business.

  • Dabbang 2 isn’t as bad as some people are making it out to be, nor is it as good as most people are wanting it to be.

Its an ‘Ok’ movie that compliments Salman’s most beloved avatar — Chulbul Pandey. The acting input from every character is good, especially Salman deserves praise for demonstrating skill in action, comedy and emotional scenes.

Some notable pointers from my side are:
    1) Dabbang & Dabbang 2 have an almost same storyline.
    2) Dabbang had better music [‘Munni’ was a lot more better in every sense than ‘Fevicol se’]
    3) ‘Chedi Singh’ was more effectful a villain than ‘Baccha Bhaiya’.
    4) The divided attention in Dabbang focusing on Chulbul as person, his relation with his mother, differences between father & brother, romancing Rajjo, and dealing with Chedi Singh had more appeal. Most of which Dabbang 2 lacks.
    5) Dabbang, undoubtedly, had more to offer.

Overall, Dabbang 2 has flaws, but it doesn’t bore you for a minute. A core entertainer, which could have a more satisfying climax, but nonetheless, a worthwhile watch !
    2.8/5

  • Todays common Indian facing to much stressed life which is running on clock.
And if he went to watch a film & you give him a film which is already stressed & have so much confusions(but till praised by critics) then the man will get headache.

But if a guy come with a film of 2hrs with full Entertaintment then the man will enjoy these 2hrs by forgeting all his problems.

All Indians found it in Salman & thats why his career graph is going high after his each film.

  • Whatever you critics say, it doesn’t matter to Salman’s films. His films are critics-proof. I went to watch this movie knowing that this movie would have nothing new to offer story-wise. The promo of the film, Salman and Arbaaz etc all have indicated that it is the continuation of the first film. Salman rightly puts it “It is the second part after the interval.” They didn’t lie to sell this film. So, the film lived up to my expectations. Apart from having a good story, the film is awesome and full on entertainment.
There are some people who are saying that watching this movie is a waste of time and money. But it is their STUPIDITY to expect something else from Dabangg franchise. These people should not have gone to watch the movie and scream here like spineless faggots. To me, it seems that some Salman haters are merely yelling here not to watch this movie without watching it by themselves.
Dabangg 2 has promised Dhamaal entertainment and it has given me double-dhamaal entertainment. I am pleased to have watched this movie. By the way, all the so-called film critics in India slammed Dabangg after its release. Now, they are calling it an epic or cult. They have to call so because audiences have liked it. Dabangg 2, too, gonna rock because audiences are liking it and the same critics will start calling this one, too, as a cult film later. Double-standard everywhere!!!!

  • Dabangg2 is not better than Dabangg…. there is no story in Dbg2….jst paisa vasool movie… not a blockbaster movie…. i m disappointed with sallu

  • average movie….. bcoz there is no story in Dbg2…. paisa vasool… but we can’t say it a blockbaster movie…. i like bodyguard,. wanted nd dbg also… but disappointed with Dabangg2

  • Bhai log,

I am a die-hard fan of Salman Khan. But one can’t expect salman to give his movie to his brother for a directorial debut right?

He is almost in his peak stage of his acting career, Taking risks, experimenting at this position will drag him back to from where started hist list of FLOPS….

To be frank, for me, no one else in the movie is used as per his/her caliber… Only salman everywhere…..

People already getting bored of the POLICE/COP movies like WANTED, DABANGG, SINGHAM, BODYGUARD, EK THA TIGER, etc…

How many movies can he act as a COP in the recent past?

People are expecting more, to be frank, I expected a lot from this sequel, to be new look and new story.

It seems, salman khan is inheriting the SOUTH INDIAN movie masala formula of 6 SONGS, 3 FIGHTS, 1 ITEM song, 1 Hero Introuduction Song, and every song is just 15-20 minutes away from other.

Is this not looking like a commercial business instead of doing some good films like others…??

Can’t we see Salman in a lover boy role of Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, etc….

Why only action movies? Because his body suites only for that?

Think big guys…I checked wtih several others who watched the movie along with me. No one responded with a good word of mouth.

Movie wont become HIT, if we shout for HIT HIT HIT… for 1000 times…

Sincerely, the movie is not at all good….

Only Punch (back-to-back) dialogues and Salman is good in the movie, rest all is not at all a movie.

  • it is a disappointing film…a completely loose plot with no scope for any actors except salman khan…salman is in top form but that didnt convince me 2 sit for 2 hours and make my money worth…really disappointing movie

  • hi frnds dnt jelous yesterday i watch the movie DABAANG2
yar itni achi movie bi ni hai jitni salman ke fans ne banyi hui h

nothing spl in this movie like crap
2 ghantay ka fattu drama hai

hall mein total 35 person thay
1st day collection 19 crore is not good for DABAANG2 bcz 3500 screen par movie h

3500 screen mein hai toh 28 crore ka business chahiye tha

last DABAANG is 2100 screen and 13.5 crore ka business is 1st day

so DABANNG2 is not close any eecord of 3 IDIOTS or EK THA TIGER

any ways cross 140 crore business ok

    review also not good 5/3.5

    1st Day = 19.5 crore
    2nd day = 20.3 crore

this is not good for salman fans ab iska pata katne wala h
