‘Court’, directed by Chaitanya Tamhanhe, is India’s official entry for the Oscars. The Marathi film was chosen ahead of popular contenders like S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ and Kabir Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
The 88th Academy Awards will be held next year.
Veteran actor-filmmaker Amol Palekar was heading the jury for choosing the entry this year.
‘Court’ is about a trial which unfolds in a lower court, where the hopes and dreams of the city’s ordinary people play out. It was named the National Film Award winner in the Best Feature Film category for 2014.
The film won the Best Feature Film award at the 62nd National Film Awards. It also won 18 awards at various film festivals, including honours at the Mumbai, Vienna, Antalya, and Singapore film festivals.
Apart from Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, NH 10 and Piku were also one of many contenders for India’s official entry for the Oscars.

Sending Bajrangi Bhaijaan to the Oscars is stupid. There was lot of unrealistic acting and scenes in the film. Baahubali would be a fair choice, it was very creative and classy.
i think rangitaranga of kannada language should have made it to the oscars.it’s a path breaking film not only for kannada industry also for indian cinema????

I have not seen Court but this movie is getting huge appreciation not only from India but also outside India . Getting National Award is a huge achievement and now it is officially selected for Oscars in the long list . This movie is a huge boost for Marathi Industry . I hope this movie gets selected in the short list . Because till now only 3 Indian movies have been selected in Oscar Shortlist . Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan . Out of all these movies BB never deserved to be in the Oscars . It was a good movie but not something brilliant .

Bajrangi Bhaijaan had many loopholes & average acting in many parts…
& for Hollywood people, films like Baahubali is nothing new !!
Bollywood mainstream movies are never good enough to be chosen for oscars(except few movies like lagan) in contradiction to mainstream hollywood movies.Thats why one of the top superstars of bolly,shaharukh khan never won a national aword except those paid awards and on the other hand arguably the top superstar of bolly for recent years,Salman khan never can think of national award.Though i love both bahubali and bajrangi bhaijan,it is unfare to compare them to Court.

Baby was not chosen as it had some resembling scenes to Argo
Dryshyam was not chosen as it was not better than original.
Bajrangi Bhaijan was not chosen as many people don’t think that these type of movies are worthy of awards.Surely, if Baby or Bajrangi would have gone to Oscars, they would have won.

baahubali is one of the big crapfest movie with low grade performance and highly overrated movie of all time and bb is even more overrated as one non actor 1st time participated by assisting a classic child actress Harshali.no doubt action involved India-pakistan movies liked huge by Indian audeinces which is the main reason why bb becomes a huge hit because Gadar was even bigger hit than bb,be it’s sunny/sallu they are just lucky to get involve in these movies.

Good Choice by the selection team. Infact they have opted for the best film of the lot.
For next year, Mohenjo-Daro has a strong chance to be the official entry for Oscar. It is looking like it will recreate the Success of Lagaan as it is being held by the same director and has India being shown like never before.

Had Bajrangi bhaijaan been sent and had the jury at Academy awards known about Bajrangi bhaijaan’s lead actor being a criminal,it would have been a shameful moment for our country
baahubali shouldnt be in the race at first place..because there was nothing new according to international standards.. itz effects were good considering what indians were upto.
bb piku were equaly deserving..nh 10 was an average movie.instead dum laga k haisha would have been a great choice
Also bhai’s acting in some scenes specially the scene where he hands over munni to the travel agent and comes out and cry on the street looked so fake.Salman is really bad at emotional scenes.

BB is the most watched Indian movie of this decade & 2nd most watched of the century. I don’t think any award can be bigger than these achievement…
BB has gotten peoples’ love all over the world i.e the biggest award.
