Actor Irrfan Khan, who is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Madaari’, has questioned the way people are practising fasting and sacrifice in Islam. A controversy has erupted and muslim clerics have asked the actor to concentrate on his film career and not seek publicity.
“The meaning of Qurbani is to sacrifice something which is close to you instead of any goat or sheep which you just buy to sacrifice. Before sacrificing we should share a bond with it otherwise just killing of an animal will not serve the purpose”
“Nowadays we have lost the relevance behind such religious activities and perform these rituals without knowing the meaning behind them” Irrfan was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
“Rather than fasting during Ramzan, people should self-introspect… We Muslims have also made a mockery of Muharram. It is meant for mourning and what we do? Take out (tajiya) processions.”
Adding to his already controversial statement, the actor criticised Muslims for not speaking against terrorism.
“Why Muslims are silent against the issue of terrorism. People should also question the politicians over this issue” he said.
Meanwhile, Muslim clerics have questioned the timing of Irrfan’s comments and asked him not to involve himself in religious issues.
“It would be better if he concentrates on his film career and not make random statements about our religion. He is doing this just for the publicity of his upcoming movie” said Maulana Abdul Wahid Khatri, state secretary of Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Hind.
Irrfan’s comments could snowball into yet another major controversy as the mainstream media has picked up the actor’s comments.

Being born & brought up in Hyderabad , which is the most cosmopolitan & one of the warmest & friendliest cities in india I have grown up with people of almost all the religions , I am Hindu , my best friend is a Christian , one of my best friends is a Muslim, I have friends from almost all the major religions that are in india. So whatever I am going to write are my personal experiences & are solely my opinions.
I have many Muslim friends , most of them are always polite , friendly , helping , intelligent, caring & fun loving people but at very rare occasions they tend to show a different mentality especially when its comes to their religious practices , I have always respected all the religions & never discriminated any one of the basis of the religion , I always judge people by their character and not by the religion .
Though I find some of the traditional customs in Islam somewhat strange I have always respected them and would do so in the future , bcos every religion has its own set of practices & traditions which may appear odd or strange to outsiders but we must understand that most of those practices have some good practical reason or the other , so we need to respect each others practices & traditions rather than mocking at such things, it would be good on our part to learn about them and understand the real essence & significance of those rituals.
No religion preaches or teaches violence & destruction but at the same time NO RELIGION IS PERFECT because if ever there was any perfect religion in the 1st place then there wouldn’t have been any need to create another religion and another religion and then another religion , every religion is special & unique in its own way and is great in its own way and NO RELIGION IS GOOD OR BAD just for the sake of it , it is the followers of those religions who make the the religion appear good or bad and every religion has good & bad people , the difference being some have more bad people than the other , Jains & Buddhists are considered as some of the most peaceful people on earth and most of it has got to do with their religion but unfortunately the same cannot be said about islam, I may be wrong in saying so but whatever I have seen & heard personally because of these few rotten Muslims the entire religion of Islam is painted in wrong color , which is bad & sad!
I still believe that Islam like every other major religion is a religion of peace and from my personal experience I can say that 70-80 % of all the muslims I have met or seen or read about fall under the peaceful category it is bcoz of the rest 20 or so % the entire religion of Islam is being shown in poor light all over the world which is really unfortunate and I feel sorry for my Muslim brothers , sisters & friends .
Having said that what I have observed is that whenever there is a terror strike by the so called brain washed jihadis , most of the Muslim’s either keep mum or silently & indirectly support them and only few Muslim’s genuinely & publicly condemn them, which in a way is strange to me!
Islam is no doubt a religion of peace and the true followers of the Allah (pbuh) don’t believe in such mindless killings in the name of religion but what I fail to understand is that why don’t the enlightened muslims who follow & truly understand the real meanings & writings of the holy Quran come forward and do something about the few rotten bigoted so called Muslim preachers who brain wash the innocent Muslim youth , these kind of people are the real culprits who are corrupting the Muslim youth & brain washing them to wage jihad , jihad is generally misunderstood by many as some holy war to kill the people of other religion or to kill those who are against Islam but the real jihad in its truest sense is about waging war within ourselves with own our egos, our own hatred , our own miseries , our own shortcomings, our own pride and war against all the bad & evil things to restore peace, love & humanity .
The wise, educated & real muslims should do something about these so called perverted religious preachers and come out openly and try to show the world what Islam really preaches & stands for,just by merely saying that Islam is religion of peace wouldnt help at all , I know how it is to be a Muslim & how it is to be a non Muslim, so it is upto the 70-80% of the real muslims to defeat the purpose of the remaining bad people who are maligning & destroying the name of Islam in the eyes of the people.
Terrorism is a global phenomenon and Islam has nothing to do with Islam . Not all the muslims are terrorists but it is equally sad & unfortunate to say that most of the terrorists are Muslims, sad but true!
I am sorry if I have offended anyone but the best we can do is respect all the religions and treat all the religions the same, remember that every single one of us have come from the stardust or rather are part of the stardust (stardust is the cosmic dust of rather final remains of stars which died some millions/billions of years ago some hundreds or thousands of light years away from our mother earth), we are just dust and nothing else , we came from dust and one fine day we would all become dust again, so till then let us live with peace, love, kindness, brotherhood & humanity, respect all the religions and love all the religions,love & peace to all!

Here what Irrfan said is extremely false. I think he does not read books related to Islam. I think he just said bad about what he likes. If he was a wise man, he would say that he doesn’t like these practises. Rather he said that these practises are bad! Does he know that we have to Kurbaani animals( only those which are permitted by Allah), not just animals but also our ego. We also have to give ‘Fitrah'(some money) to the poor and a part of our Kurbani also.
Does he know that, those Tajia and rally etc are practised by only a small fractions of Muslims only? Just media post their pictures and those idiots became picture of all Muslims? May a non-muslim not know, but as a Muslim he should have know these. That’s why Maulana said him not to speak about Islam further.

hei mr Irrfan, Fasting is carried out for month long so that people get to know what kind of pain poor people go through when they don’t get any food. So that, rich and able people’s heart becomes softer towards poor and they donate food, money etc.
And someone said, one of his school friends had to fast despite of his illness.
Didn’t that fool know that, if he is not able to fast, he can spare it. When he is able, he should carry out previously spared fasts. And if he is not able aged, he don’t have to fast all month. He should practise fasting although. One-two or three day. But again it is not a must.
Sad to see a bunch of Islam haters bashing Islam together just because they are majority.
If killing of goats for relgious purpose is bad, then killing of goats for fulfilling your taste buds, is worse….what say???
