Saddened by the terrorist attack on the Indian army at Uri, comedian Raju Srivastav has cancelled his show that was scheduled to take place in Pakistan. He had apparently received an invitation from the neighbouring country for a comedy show.
In a statement, Srivastav said “Pakistan had invited me for a comedy show. But we keep seeing that it has become a war like situation, our soldiers are being killed. I have seen the tragedy that has stuck the families of the soldiers who have been killed. Pakistan has always been betraying us. We always extend our hand for friendship, show how large hearted we are, but we have gained nothing from it”
“In the current situation that we are in, how can I go to Pakistan? How can I make people laugh there? How can I do comedy, when comedy comes from the heart?”
“I don’t want to go to Pakistan, our India is good.. here we always have love and respect for each other. There is brotherhood. We are happy here” Srivastav said.
The actor also extended his support to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s 48-hour ultimatum to all Pakistani artistes to leave the country.
In a week since the terrorist attacks in Kashmir, the issue of Pakistani artists working in the country has snowballed into a big enough controversy that could potentially affect the business of films featuring actors from the neighbouring country. Debaters have questioned why actors from across the border like Fawad and Mahira Khan haven’t condemned the attacks on India.
The Uri attacks has also made the relationships between both the countries quite tensed.
