Chennai Express First Weekend Predictions

After breaking the ‘paid preview’ record previously held by 3 Idiots, Chennai Express went on to smash two more records – ‘highest opening day business’ and ‘highest single day collections’, as the film collected Rs 33.12 crore on its second day at the box office.

That’s three down, with many more to go for the Shahrukh Khan starrer. Below is our box office prediction for the remaining two days in the week and the records that Chennai Express can overtake in the next few days.

Chennai Express Predictions

First Weekend Predictions

Saturday: The opening day collections of both Ek Tha Tiger and Chennai Express are about the same. But with business of Rs 14.52 crore, ETT dropped by 55% on its second day at the box office. Chennai Express is unlikely to witness such a huge drop, as Saturday (today) is a holiday in most parts of the country. Also, the muslim section of the audience will come out in numbers to watch the film today. So we expect the second day collections to be around Rs 23-24 crore net, which is a drop of around 30%. The record for the highest second day collections is held by SRK’s Ra One (25 crore), it’ll be interesting to see if Shahrukh can break his own record!

Sunday: Two national holidays in three days, plus a solo release – the makers of Chennai Express couldn’t have asked for more! Sunday is likely to be bigger, and business could well be close to 30 crore. Most major releases with mixed to good word-of-mouth tend to pick up by around 15-20% on Sunday. Prediction – 28 crore. The highest collections on a Sunday is held Salman’s Dabangg 2 (25 crore).

First Weekend: That totals to weekend collections of around 91 crores, which is by the biggest weekend in Bollywood history. Currently, the highest collections in 3 days is Rs 65 crore (Dabangg 2). Even with bigger drops over the weekend, Chennai Express should still comfortable net more than 80 crores.

The film could also be join the ‘100 crore club’ in 4 days, the fastest for any film in history. Again, the record is currently held by Ek Tha Tiger (5 days).

  • Hey CE ..this is rajni saying ‘collect as much as u want till 15th aug bcoz after that THALAIVA is comming’
    #OUATIMD

  • @indicine.i want you put this on your website that according to boxofficeindia.com latest news CE has collected 29.25 crs. So bad news for SRK fans and with this short lasting celebration of CE overtaking ETT should come to an end. Indicine if you don’t put this news then many of your members will no longer follow you.

  • The paid previews on Thursday have probably cost Chennai Express the opening day record but cost is actually not the right word as a record is just a number which gets beaten in time while the makers are better off as they collected a very good figure in paid previews.

Though for the record it is pretty certain that a new record would have come in had there been no paid previews as the miss was by just around 1.25 crore nett and there is sure to have been a large chunk of the Friday audience which saw the film on Thursday.

But as has has been said above the collections stand at 35 crore nett plus after day one with paid previews while if there were no paid previews it could have been around 32 crore nett.

  • Chennai Express collected a huge 29.25 crore nett on day one and took its collection to 35.25 crore nett including the paid previews. The film set new records in the South India markets and Bihar.

It is the second highest collection of all time behind the Ek Tha Tiger figure of 30.50 crore nett approx. The collections are out of this world in the South India markets while rest of India has seen excellent figures.

North India which could have been lower has scored well. East Punjab is comparatively lower if we compare with Ek tha Tiger but Delhi/UP is almost the same though it is due to fact that Ek Tha Tiger was released Pre-Eid and UP does not collect as well in that period. Mumbai and Central India territories have fantastic figures.

  • SRKians listen to this

DABBANG 2: 4000 screens in India – opening day collection 20 CRORES WORLD

CHENNAI EXPRESS : 3500 screens in India – opening day collection 33.12 CRORES

  • Thats very bad indicine … UTV and Taran provide fake collection .. Check The most trustable indian site boxofficeindia clearly said ett record unbeaten shortly by ce collects 29cr … Please indicine boi collection also declare the boi collection of CE . Otherwise its looks like fraud.

  • Day 1: 33+ crores BO record.
Day 2: 37-39 crores predicted. another BO record. (15% increased looks like)
Day 3: Sunday is usually increased. But CE is in the position of hitting 40 crores per single day.

SRK is also very lucky like Sallu was in previous EIDs:

    solo release without any competition.

mass entertainer excellent for single screens as well as multiplexes.

Sallu was even luckier with EID falling on national holiday of Aug 15 as all the corporates & offices were closed.

Still CE beat ETT with 33+ crores for Day 1.

Its not just SRK BO power but also Rohit Shetty BO power which is bigger than its superstars.

  • The guys who are saying CE collected 29cr, okay even if it did that much so what? U know tht paid previews will be counted in first day collection, so pls accept the truth and get lost… Ce will just destroy all records

  • Haterzzz gone mad
even they are giving there own update and trying to save the record of ETT
    but it already broken :-P

  • If anyone can give me the proof that UTV.taran adarsh,TOI,bollywood hungama,BOc all these sites gave the fake collection of Ce
then i will not support srk in future

    Challenge for haterzz

  • Haterss Logic :

There is only genuine box office site is BOI and only genuine critic is komal nahta
    all others are fake

  • Saturday is going to be huge again….some of my frnds went and they told me that all shows r running jammed pack…..even in many shows, there was an occupancy of 100%…cinemax itself showing 20 shows of ce….it will easily cross 100 cr in 4 days…..no doubts…
but on a very serious note, i want to ask some questions from all srk haters…
    1. is it not a huge collection for that star, who was assumed to be finish????
    2. u were continuously questioning his stardom and all……that he can’t cross 120 cr bla bla bla….let’s say, collections r only 30 cr….still, is not it a big figure??????
    3. now i saw some farcical comments…they r saying that it’s not a big deal that on a festive season, if it collected 30 cr…then tell me one thing, is srk the first star, to get benefit from a festive release???
i have been saying from the starting that making a huge profit is not a big deal, if u r going safe side with a masala movie…..these movies r trending now a days and so r the collections…..so collecting a huge amount with masala movies is not a big deal…..but collecting 100+ cr with movies like jthj, don2, barfi is really a big achievement….
now coming to actual collection….almost all websites and news channels r showing that ce is ahead of ett in terms of collections….
abp news even broadcasted a whle coverage that “badshah ne tiger ko piche choda”..
so don’t get confused and accept the success of srk…

  • Nice looking at various box office results for one film, i will not declare any site as authentic, box office india says it uses algorithms to estimate film revenue, a consequence of this is that commercial movies with high buzz and subsequently adjusted prices will be shortchanged particularly in the first few days of release, distributors may want to inflate revenues in order to boost firm’s ego but may be hindered by profits that have to be shared because of certain deals, in all distributors dont give figures far above actuals except in situations where they have exclusive reserve to the proceeds.

  • Congrats to the chennai express cast and crew, this is a step forward by distribution firms in india, it is a shame that 3 idiots that released in perhaps 1400 screens attained 202 crores in 2009, while in 2013 with access to 3700 screens films are celebrating 160 crores, the next important step is 250 crores. Can chennai express do this only time will tell.
