The trailer of Chennai Express is out and the film looks like a complete family entertainer with action, comedy, romance and good music. With Balaji postponing the release of their upcoming film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara, Shahrukh Khan is set to take centre-stage during the extended Eid weekend starting 8th August.
The festive weekend has been record-breaking, credit for which goes entirely to Salman Khan. It all started with Dabangg in 2010 breaking the previous record of 3 Idiots. A year later, Bodyguard took a earth shattering opening, collecting Rs 21 crore on it’s opening day. Last year, Salman successfully completed a Eid hattrick with Yashraj Films’ Ek Tha Tiger breaking all previous records with highest single day collections of Rs 32.92 crore. The film eventually went on to collect Rs 100 crores in 5 days!
The year-on-year growth in business is staggering:
- 1. Dabangg (2010) – 14.5 crore
- 2. Bodyguard (2011) – 21 crore (44% growth)
- 3. Ek Tha Tiger (2012) – 32.92 crore (57% growth)
If the trend continues, Chennai Express might come close or even better the opening day collections of ETT, as 8th August marks the end of Ramadan and 9th August is a national holiday for Eid-ul-fitr. Business is likely to pick up after the holiday, on Saturday and Sunday, as the muslim section of the audience come out in numbers to watch the film, as was the case with Ek Tha Tiger last year.
We asked a few distributors, exhibitors and box office enthusiasts who follow the trade closely – to predict the opening day, opening weekend (4 days) and opening week collections of Chennai Express. Finally, we averaged the numbers out.
- 8th August, Thursday – 25 crore (opening day)
- 9th August, Friday – 29 crores (national holiday)
- 10th August, Saturday – 18 crores
- 11th August, Sunday – 26 crores (Holiday)
- Extended 4 day Weekend – 98 crores
- First Week (7 days) – 132 crores

Movie seems to b made for single screen but actor is multiplex dominator. And i bet he can never achive at single screen what salman,Ajay devgan,and Akki have achieved.

we should not forgate that ranbir’s movies are blockbuster b’cause of multiplex. Whatever barfi and yjhd have collected b’cause of multiplex. As we know Ajay devgan’s movies’ footfalls are than that of jthj ,barfi and other such movies whose collections are higher than that of ajay but still ajay’s bo collection is less b’cause less multiplex accupancy and more single screen accupancy.
Do not consider those single screen dominator as less popullar as above someone mentioned youtube views and likes don’t make a movie blockbuster but miviegoers. And that doesn’t happen with srk.
Mind it as i said this time movie will b below the mark with extended weekend collection around 85cr and life time collection rs. 115-125cr.

This one gonna hit chennai express like a tsunami which doesn’t look at youtube likes but at target and this train will b crashed like cars and buses of rohit shetty’s that he shows in his movie.

First Day :- 23 crore ( Because its Ramdan period and muslims dont watch it)
Second Day – 27 crore (National Holiday but after huge first day drop should be low but if film has positive response then 30cr is possible)
Third Day :- 18 crore (NORMAL SATURDAY and dop is normal after huge second day)
Sunday :-23 ( After such huge business in 3 days sunday will be not 25cr plus as i see)
Four Day weekend :- 91 crore
Monday-Wednesday :- 9+8+7 = 24 crore
First 7 days :- 115 crore
8th day is national holiday again but ith OUTIMA also release not huge jump is expected max – 10cr
So 8 days will be 125 crore and lifetime will be around 150-160cr with BLOCKBUSTER STATUS.
Note :- I predicted it as film got mixed response from public. If response is very good then sky is limit :)

My predictions are 140 to 150 crore for 1st week. 2nd week nd lifetime collections depends on outm. But looking at trailer the effect outm will be not much.

1st day ..26 second day 28 ,,,3rd day 17 and on sunday 22.. total is..93 and next 4 day will be 27….the total is 120 in 7 days and lifetime will be 155 to 160….if it result are very good then 175 to 180 max.. not more than that… and that will be the final figure.. make that noted..It has one more + point that movie will collect maximum in south that any other hindi movie in india because of its south indian accent.. and that hindi version will collect huge in south also.. and overseas is no dout srk terriorty and it will gv him 60 to 70 crore..settlight right 45 and music 8 and other merchendise will be 10 crore ….

1.CE is masala movie nd JTHJ is a clasical movie nd very long movie,3hr , inspite that JTHJ done excellent busines.
2.CE is single release on EID which is considered to be the best release day,JTHJ inspite of clash frm SOS which also done very good business, still JTHJ collected very good numbers.
3.The previous movies done by SRK were fully for classes and not liked much by masses, still they were super hits, inspite of less collections frm single screens.
4.CE is a masala movie for especially for masses and it will surely do gr8 job at multiplexes b’coz of srk’s popularity amng classes nd the trailor is already liked 2 mch at youtube.
5.SRK is back on masala movies aftr soo long time nd fans r eagerly waiting to watch srk in this luk.
