Can Ram Charan Teja and Dhanush break the jinx?

Well, strange things happen in Hindi Film Industry generally termed as Bollywood. The remake rights of South Indian action movies are selling like hot cakes as all the major superstars in Bollywood today are eyeing them. Also, Hindi Film audience has always greeted the South actresses with open arms. From earlier Bollywood queens like Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi and Jayaprada to the more recent Shriya Saran, Asin or Kajal Agrawal, south Indian female stars have always managed to make it big in the Hindi Movie Industry.

But when it comes to the South Indian male superstars, who are literally worshipped in their territories, they have never been able to establish themselves in Bollywood. Biggest superstars from Tamil industry, Rajinikant (Andha Kanoon – 1983) and Kamal Hassan (Ek Dooje Ke Liye – 1981), met with some degree of success but could not make it big. Same goes for Telugu stalwarts – Chiranjeevi (Aaj Ka Gundaraj -1992) , Venkatesh (Anari-1993) and Nagarjuna (Criminal -1992), who had momentary success but could not maintain the level of stardom. Malayalam superstars Mammootty (Dhartiputra -1993) and Mohanlal(Company -2002) have also struggled to achieve the same kind of success.

Surprisingly, the trend is continuing with the newer generation of stars. Tamil superstars Suriya (Rakhatcharitra), R Madhavan (Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein) and Prabhudeva(Pukar), Telugu stars Siddharth (Rang De Basanti) and Rana Daggubati (Dum Maaro Dum) and more recently Malayalam star Prithviraj (Aiyya) have failed to give any competition to the Hindi stars in Bollywood.

Yes, the taste and sensibility is different for north Indian and south Indian audience. Since the Indian movie industry is male dominated, acceptance of a South Indian actor in Bollywood in a big way is now becoming like an improbable thing. But the desire and ambition of south actors to make it big in Bollywood will always remain. Hence, two more big names are all set for their Bollywood mega debuts.

Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan is set for a massive launch in Bollywood in the remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1972 super hit ‘Zanjeer’. The film directed by Apoorva Lakhia has Priyanka Chopra playing Charan’s heroine. Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and popular Tamil actor Dhanush is also acting in  his first Hindi film titled ‘Raanjhnaa’ directed by Aanand L Rai of Tanu Weds Manu fame, with Sonam Kapoor as the female lead and music by AR Rahman.

‘Zanjeer’ was the movie which turned Amitabh Bachchan into an ‘angry young man’ and Dhanush has become a household name now after the mega success of ‘Kolavari Di’. Can these two aspirants break the age-old jinx and make it big in Bollywood ? What do you think?

  • Zanjir remake may be a superhit bcz of pc..also ramcharan is a gud actr….bt cnt say abt dhanush movie,….hop dat dhanush popularity n rehman music may work

  • It doesn’t matter as both may get success or moderate success. But It has to be Mahesh Babu who can break the barrier.IMO currently Mahesh babu is the most popular south Indian superstar in all over India.

  • Mahesh babu can make big in bollywood even suriya and vikram can make big but films should be like singham or anniyan. . . These 3 actor has enough guts to face biggies in bollywood

  • Surya tried here, but didnt get what he deserved and d same goes with vikram (a very talented guy). But still, it feels bad not for Rajni, not for kamal hasan or any other, it just does for R. Madhavan (Maddy Fame). RHTDM is still a huge success with the youth. he totally outshadowed Saif in that movie and has continuously provided wonderful performances throughout. He is again an underrated actor here.

  • Only Mahesh Babu can break this jinx as he is most popular south Indian superstar in India. Above all he has his killer and enchantic look that is very much needed to stay here in Bollywood.
