‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is the big release this week and the film has been in news right from the day the trailer was released. The promos have worked, the music has done fairly well and the promotional campaign has been quite effective too with Dhoni himself promoting the film.
While Sultan is certainly way out of reach, the record for the second highest opening of the year too is likely to remain with FAN. But the big question will be if the MS Dhoni biopic can challenge the opening total of films like Housefull 3 and Rustom.
The costs are on the higher side, so the film needs to open well and then grow on word-of-mouth. For probably the first time ever, it’ll be Dhoni who’ll be providing the ‘star power’ to the film as Sushant Singh Rajput, on his own, cannot yet ensure a good initial – atleast not for a film as big as this.
The other big name involved is director Neeraj Pandey. For all the critical acclaim that he’s achieved with films like Special 26 and Baby, Pandey films have never really opened well at the box office. His best is the 9-crore opening of Baby, which should be easily surpassed.
It’ll be interesting to see where the ‘MS Dhoni’ biopic finally ends in the list below. The film releases at a time when the industry is desperate for a box office success. September has been poor with big failures like Akira and Baar Baar Dekho. The only saving grace has been the success of a small film like PINK. Can Dhoni give the industry the big film that it’s been waiting for?

@AMIT They can’t compare to khan’s opening because they gets benefit of festival and holiday. So than only akshay kumar remains who gives Very good openings on non holiday.

Personally I think its unfair comparing its collection with the guys movie so far Rustm and H3…you and I know Rustam was a clash with Hrithik and the genre was not a universal friendly genre like a movie based on India’s most favourute Sport Cricket
