A. Last year’s Post-IPL release Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opened very well at the box office, with opening day business of around 19.5 crore. As far as the opening is concerned, Holiday is unlikely to come close, even though the film expected to release on 350-400 screens more than YJHD.
We expect Holiday to collect somewhere between 11 – 14 crore on its opening day and then pick up depending on how well the film is liked. So for Holiday to get anywhere close to the 187 crore mark of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani or even go on to be Akshay’s biggest grosser (currently Rowdy Rathore at 133 cr), the word-of-mouth has to be tremendously positive.
Collections of Post-IPL releases in the last 3 years below. Business has increased significantly every year. To continue the trend, Holiday has to collect well in excess of 200 crore.
- Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) – 187 crore (lifetime), 19.5 crore (opening day)
- Rowdy Rathore (2012) – 133 crore (lifetime), 14.93 crore (opening day)
- Ready (2011) – 122 crore (lifetime), 13.4 crore (opening day)

i think Holiday should cross 80 crs.it will be difficult to reach 100 crs for the film beacuse the publicity and ht music of the film is not so encouraging to watch the film.so my prediction is 80 crs.

YJHD was a multiplex film with RK-DP pair,superhit music…
Reliance entertainment can’t be trusted any more,last year also Zanjeer and Besharam flopped badly.

Don’t know about beating YJHD but it will surely overtake Rowdy Rathore::
Opening will be on the same lines as of RR.
Holiday will be liked by both multiplex and mass audiences which will help in boosting its collections.
While his last few releases like boss,khiladi786 got footfalls but it never showed in its collections,coz the multiplexes boycotted them.

100 + crore is impossible but 70 + crore looks easy.
its look close to impossible for holiday to beat yjhd collection but I wish it should able to beat yjhd boxoffice collection.

I don’t think it has any chance to beat yjhd collection due to many factors such as its genre music etc.yjhd had great music,pair and it was much more attractive for youth.
Its songs and buzz suggest it probably won’t unless the response is anywhere close to RowdY Rathore. It has to collect over 15 crore on opening day to even get past Rowdy Rathore’s collections.
Its story is very good, I just hope the makers haven’t ruined it with unnecessary romance and senseless scenes.
So isn’t it a big shame for akshay if holiday cant cross yjhd which released last year or even rowdy rathore?
looks difficult but not impossible. W.O.M is the key here. if you look at the 3 films ( YJHD, RR, READY ), the common thing is all these had super positive W.O.M & chartbuster music! If Holiday has a super postive W.O.M then nothing can stop the movie cause Holiday has no big competition in the 2nd week.
It will struggle to cross 100 cr… Forget yjhd… It’ll fail to beat ready’s lifetime collection… No I’m not questioning akkis stardom but the fact it doesnt have any hype to it,not a single song is a chartbuster,no promotion… Plus aakis last four or five movies have failed to collect even 80 crs (that too when some of them released on holidays)
