Q. Can Ek Villain be 2014’s first blockbuster? It seems to have everything going for it from exciting promos to chartbuster music to perfect release date (releasing on the same weekend as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag released last year) – Sambuddha Mukherjee a.k.a Arjun Kapoor in the comments section.
A. Its always difficult to predict if a film can go on to be a ‘blockbuster’ because that depends on the content of the film and word-of-mouth that it carries post-release. But like you mentioned, the promos have worked big time, music has topped the charts and Mohit Suri is directing his first film after ‘Aashiqui 2’.
The release date isn’t exactly ‘perfect’ because there is a heavy flow of releases in the next few weeks. The response to Humshakals and Bobby Jasoos could also decide how big a grosser Ek Villain goes on to be (assuming it carries above average to good reports). If Humshakals turns out to be as entertaining as Sajid Khan’s Housefull 2 or Bobby Jasoos gets good reviews.. both films will have an impact on Ek Villain’s business.
