While no other actor has managed to make the kind of impact that Hrithik Roshan made with his debut film, the current decade has given the industry quite a few promising stars. The next few years will decide who among these will take it to the next level and attain super-stardom.
Band Baaja Baarat (Ranveer Singh): Anushka Sharma was a star after the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, but Maneesh Sharma’s Band Baaja Baarat gave the industry a promising star in Ranveer Singh. The film collected just Rs 1 crore on its opening day, but carried excellent word-of-mouth and went on to attain ‘hit’ status.
Vicky Donor (Ayushmann Khurana): The film, which had a quirky title, marked the acting debut of Ayushmann (who had a youth following due to TV-show Roadies) and Yami Gautam. The opening day collections of Rs 2.06 crore fell in the ‘acceptable’ range because the reports were excellent.
Loading ...Ishaqzaade (Arjun Kapoor): Dark films are always risky on debut, but Arjun Kapoor delivered what remains the best performance of his career and the extremely talented Parineeti Chopra was excellent too. Ishaqzaade had a good story to tell and more importantly had a soul. The film opened at 4.55 crore and finished with lifetime collections of 49 crore.
Student Of The Year (Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt): Karan Johar’s first film without Shah Rukh Khan gave the industry three promising stars. Varun hasn’t had a failure since, Sidharth remains popular and Alia is one of the most popular female stars we have in the industry today. SOTY opened very well, collecting Rs 8.25 crore on Day 1, it finished with Rs 70 crore also becoming the highest grossing film featuring debut actors.
Heropanti (Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon): It was a typical masala film made to cater to the masses. Tiger Shroff impressed with action and dancing skills, the music was good and the film had a beautiful leading lady too. Heropanti opened at 6.52 crore and finished with net box office collections of 51 crore.
Hero (Sooraj Pancholi, Athiya Shetty): Salman Khan planned a dream debut for Suniel Shetty’s daughter Athiya and Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj. The music was good, but the film failed to live upto expectations. Salman’s backing ensured a fairly good opening, but the newcomers failed to impress the audience.
Loading ...Kai Po Che (Sushant Singh Rajput): Sushant, a popular star on television (Pavitra Rishta), made his debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s critically acclaimed Kai Po Che. The film opened fairly well (3.75 crore) and finished with collections of 45 crore. Sushant hasn’t really been consistent at the box office, but acting talent is likely to be one his strengths going forward.
Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (Armaan Jain, Deekha Seth): Disastrous is the word for the fourth-generation kid of the Kapoor clan. Armaan Jain failed to impress. The film opened very poorly and was declared a disaster on the first day itself.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (Kapil Sharma): It’s unfair to compare Kapil Sharma with some of the other debut stars, because he commanded a huge following because of his television show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’. The film opened very well (10 crore) and finished with lifetime collections of 45 crore net.
Mirzya (Harshvardhan Kapoor, Saiyami Kher): Expectations were high as Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra was launching Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan, but the film turned out to be a damp-squib at the box office. The first day collections (2.2 crore) is disastrous and reports are extremely poor too.

I wonder why people say Suhaag was Koyla with supporting role even khakee. Go watch Suhaag and see its Akshay movie. He did many movies so you expect not always hit. Tallness of tiny papa jadoo boy.

how varun & shraddha are so ahead dont know but honestly they both are avg in acting and need lot more to improve but they have a charishma,aura or screen presence which is making them ahead.

Opening matters the most than movies like besharam , blue are supposed to be always praised. Abhe Donkey people remember the verdict and total income 1st. You are really a clown so Vivek Aftab grand maasti is more important? Grow up you brought topic of it was a blockbuster because of Papa so why bring key words like it’s verdict? Footfalls distribution shares total net is number 1,if opening is good then it should be a clean hit but films like Neerja, tank weds many returns should have been written off with small opening day

And movies like khiladiyo ka khiladi was a huge opening but still it was not the highest opening of all time and mohra was multistarer still not biggest opening ever. While hrithik has given 3 biggest opening ever i.e. mission kashmir ,krrish and agneepath, (missed in dhoom2 by a very small margin due 2 some profit sharing disputes wid some multiplexes)
And really ,op. Matters more than lifetime verdict?? Opening r remembered for small time( except it was not historical) and verdict remains in the memory for long time .Noone will remember ,tmk and blue were good opener but will remember that they r crap and flops.
@2.0 ATFB, you jerk, ajay was the lead actor of suhaag. Makkhi only played supporting role. In acting, stardom your gobar is koyla. Ajay has given many all time openers in 1990s and gobar – babaji ka thullu. Ajay has 2 national awards which is a dream for your makkhi. Get lost now. Suhaag was credited to ajay and it was only ajay becuase of whom suhaag was hit. He was main lead you jerk. Ajay’s debut phool aur kaante was super hit and 2nd HGOTY and flopshay’s debut was disaster called saugandh. Ha ha ha.and now shivaay has tremendous buzz and way more than chustom, airlift and many other gobar movies. Zara si bhi sharm hai tujhme? To nikal le yahan se.

@aisha… For all the above mentioned openings except SRK.. All were having Bollywood connections and thus got big films with big directors with great music n all. Whereas Akshay the struggler then had to survive and hence debuted with a low budget film.
There will be following of audience reviews or some best directors ahead not of these stars. Whoever will be delivering best films, will hv boxoffice success.
