Best Male Debut 2012 – Vote

Every year a few fresh faces make their big screen debut. This year was different, as we witnessed an explosion of talent in Bollywood. New guys and girls alike made an impact, that made us believe that the Hindi film industry will not have a dearth of talent for the next few years.

Here is my list of Top 5 Best Male Bollywood debutantes for 2012.

Arjun Kapoor (Ishaqzaade): Prominent Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor’s son and Anil Kapoor’s nephew, Arjun Kapoor was launched by Yash Raj Films in ‘Ishaqzaade’ directed by Habib Faisal. Arjun was to debut with a film called ‘Virus Diwan’ but it was scrapped. Like cousin Sonam Kapoor, even Arjun used to be overweight at 140 kgs. But under Salman Khan’s gym-training, he lost oodles of weight and is now his smashing-self. Prior to making his debut, Arjun worked as an assistant director for films like Kal Ho Na Ho, Salaam-e-Ishq, Wanted and No Entry. Kapoor’s natural performance as a rebellious young boy ‘Parma’ was appreciated in his debut movie by critics as well as the audience.

Ayushmann Khurrana (Vicky Donor): From winning MTV Hero Honda Roadies Season 2 to a RJ, VJ and then a Television anchor, Chandigarh-based Ayushmann Khurrana hit the silver screen with John Abraham maiden production ‘Vicky Donor’ directed by Soojit Sarkar. It is a unique film based on the topic of sperm donation and Ayushmann made a promising debut. Apart from acting, Ayushmann wrote, composed and sung the chartbuster song ‘Pani Da Rang’ which was recently nominated under the ‘Best Music Debut’ category at the Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA).

Varun Dhawan (Student of the Year): 2012 seems to be a year when most celebrity children are being launched in banners outside their home productions. After assisting Karan Johar in My Name is Khan, David Dhawan’s younger son Varun made his debut as an actor in Johar’s Student of the Year. Both sons of David Dhawan have paved their own path into Bollywood without their father’s help, as Rohit Dhawan made his debut as a director in 2011 with Desi Boyz. Varun’s performance and dancing skills were appreciated by the audience and critics alike.

Siddharth Malhotra (Student of the Year): Other than David Dhawan’s son, Karan Johar also introduced top model Siddharth, who was the 2nd runner up in the Gladrags Mega-model & Manhunt in 2007. He was seen donning the role of Abhimanyu Singh in Student of the Year. Not to be confused with the director of ‘We Are Family’ (also a Karan Johar production), Siddharth Malhotra is a Delhi boy who boasts of great looks.

Pulkit Samrat (Bittoo Boss): Best known for his television stint as Lakshya Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Pulkit Samrat was out of the scene following a fallout with Ekta Kapoor. He then has made his Bollywood debut with ‘Bittoo Boss’ from the same banner that produced the hilarious flick Pyaar Ka Punchnama with a complete new cast. He will now be seen in Excel Entertainment’s ‘Fukrey’.
