Action movies are all the rage lately in Bollywood and almost every top star has featured in one massy-action film.
But who is the best action hero in Bollywood today? Here are the nominees.
- Akshay Kumar – The Khiladi! Need we say more? From being written off by the critics at the beginning of the year, Akshay has once again emerged as a box-office force to be reckoned with. Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore are two of the biggest grossers of 2012.
- Salman Khan – Unarguably enjoying the best phase of his career, Salman has only done action-masala films in the last couple of years. This year too, he has two similar films lined up for release – Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2. Is he the best action hero in Bollywood today?
- Shahrukh Khan – He’s the king of romance, but SRK has also excelled as an action hero. In the last decade, the superstar has featured in action films like Don, Ra One and to a certain extent Main Hoon Na.
- Hrithik Roshan – Almost every time Hrithik has done action, his films have been hugely successful at the box-office. Dhoom 2, Krrish and this year’s Agneepath.
- Aamir Khan – It’s Aamir who started the trend of South Indian action remakes with Ghajini. Next year, he returns as an action hero with Dhoom 3.
- Ajay Devgan – He started his career with action, then did some serious films and returned last year to cash-in on the trend. Singham was one of the biggest hits of his career.
- John Abraham – The turning point in John’s career was the first film in the Dhoom series way back in 2004. Since then, the actor has appeared in just one action film Force.
Other actors who deserve a mention, but haven’t delivered a solo action hit in a long time – Amitabh Bachchan, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Dharmendra, Jackie Shroff and many more. Each actor a legend, but including these names would be unfair, as they probably won’t get enough votes.

Family still comes first
Salman Khan, who has had a hat-trick of blockbusters with Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard, is trying to ensure his extended family too can reap the benefits of his largesse and popularity. Salman is shooting for brother Arbaaz’s Dabangg 2, while he’s just signed Bodyguard 2 with brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri. Then, in September, he will begin shooting for brother Sohail’s directorial venture Sher Khan. “Salman has been working almost exclusively for his family members. Sohail, Arbaaz and Atul have been keeping him busy with their respective films,” says a trade analyst.
But given the fact that Salman’s schedule is already jam packed, these films are only going to make things even more chaotic for him. And not only that, he may also be losing out on the opportunity of working with other big film-makers. “His dates are blocked. There is no way he can accommodate any other film now,” says a close confidante of the star. Meanwhile, Atul Agnihotri sounds excited about starting work with his superstar brother-in-law soon. “We are definitely working on Bodyguard 2. Salman has already given his consent, and we will be announcing other details soon,” he says.
Jism 2′ to be released before the scheduled date
Ever since Pooja Bhatt decided to come out with the sequel of ‘Jism’, there has been a lot of buzz about the film and its cast. The latest news we hear is that the film is being preponed by a week.
Speaking exclusively to us from Sri Lanka, Pooja Bhatt confirms the news while adding, “The release date of the film was August 3, but after seeing the film’s rushes, my distributors want me to bring out the film in advance. In fact, my music company is also very gung-ho about the tracks. However, I’m prepared.”
Just six days away from wrapping her shoot, Pooja is quite satisfied with the way the film has progressed so far. About rumours that adult star Sunny was actually quite shy while filming some of the intimate scenes, Pooja clarifies, “Why can’t an actor in reality be different from the person he/she portrays on screen? There is a certain difference between having sex and making love. The role that Sunny is playing is very complicated, which even a seasoned actress would think twice before taking up.”

Pooja also claims that Sunny’s language skills have improved over time. Pooja points out, “When we went to her with the film, we knew the kind of limitations she would come with. Today her Hindi has improved a lot from where she began.”
Daddy dearest
Pappa’s girl Pooja has also had to counter with the pressure of the constant presence of her father Mahesh Bhatt on the sets. Pooja however laughs and says, “He is always present for all our films. He loves the energy and is very inspiring. What is there to get intimidated about? In fact I want to surround myself with people from whom I can learn.”
All in all, Pooja’s quite a content lady. Particularly because, apart from Sunny, she also has plans around her hotties Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh. The director quips, “I’m a lady and how can I forget the rest of the ladies of our country? In our country we don’t present men beautifully but that would not be the case in our film.”

Shahrukh Khan, who was a star attraction at IIFA last year, is going to miss this year’s award ceremony to be held in Singapore; but if one Khan can’t make it, the other Khan will make up for his absence. To add star power to the three-day long extravaganza, Salman Khan will be there.
Why is Shahrukh Khan going to miss IIFA 2012, to be held from June 7 to 9? It’s because this weekend he is busy with his shooting schedule, and also his kids Aryan and Suhana have their school vacations from June. Shahrukh will join his kids for their vacations and will also shoot for Yash Chopra’s film. Katrina Kaif (who is currently shooting with Salman Khan in Thailand) and Anushka Sharma will join Shahrukh a few days later for the movie’s shoot.
However, the Bollywood fans need not to worry because the IIFA awards will not fall short of glamour and star value. A horde of stars including Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Rani Mukherjee are all set to add to the glitz and glamour at the IIFA weekend this year.
Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar are to co-host the show, and the performers include Sonakshi Sinha, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor.
Also expect a host of other stars like Abhay Deol, Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani, Emraan Hashmi, Bipasha Basu, Dia Mirza, Kalki Koechlin, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Preity Zinta and Vidya Balan to attend this year IIFA from June 7-9.
Asin to star opposite Akshay in Khiladi 786?
grapevine is abuzz that Ghajini actor has been roped in opposite Akshay Kumar in Khiladi 786. The actress will replace Nargis Fakhri who was dropped from the film as she didn’t look the part of Mithun’s sister, reports Mid Day.
Asin’s father who handles her work tells the tabloid: “It

Asin and producers were not available for comment.
Khiladi 786 is directed by Ashish R Mohan. It will be produced by Eros International and Hari Om Entertainment. The film marks the return of Akshay Kumar to his famous Khiladi film series after 12 years since he acted in Khiladi 420.
The film is scheduled to release on 7 December, 2012.

When quizzed about this, Asin says, “You have to ask the production house about that because I think it’s best that it comes from them. I am not one of those actresses who go on saying that I have been approached for this or signed this much before the official announcement has been made.”

Imran Khan has been announced as the male lead in the movie adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s 2 States and now the question is, who will romance the Jaane Tu boy ?
It will reportedly be a toss up between three big heroines – Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and southern sensation Asin.
Reports also suggest that Deepika and Asin, who are both south Indians, stand a better chance than PC to win the role since the female protagonist is a Tamil Brahmin.
But we say don’t write off Punjabi PC who made a convincing Marathi mulgi in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminey.
The film, which is being directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar, will begin production next year.
